CELTIC’S conquerors Dundee United gift-wrapped the points to Danny Rohl’s team as they lost 4-2 at Ibrox this afternoon.
Tannadice gaffer Jim Goodwin watched in horror as keeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer presented the hosts a two-goal advantage before the visitors pulled one back on the stroke of half-time.
The blundering shotstopper flapped hopelessly at a shot from Thelo Aasgaard to knock the ball straight to the feet of Ryan Naderi to roll in the first from close range on the half-hour mark.
He then made a mess of an attempt to scoop the ball off the line as Dujon Sterling headed in the second in the 42nd minute.
Amar Fatah threw the visitors a lifeline with a low shot just on the stroke of half-time that eluded Jack Butland.
Maynard-Brewer lost another goal to Aasgaard before being replaced by Dave Richards. It appeared the netminder, who shut out the champions in his team’s 2-0 win two weeks ago, had injured his right arm.
United netted a second through Zac Sapsford in the 73rd minute and were then denied an equaliser when a header hit the left-hand post in the 85 minutes.
Within moments, the hosts raced to the other side of the pitch and Bojan Miovski whipped in the killer fourth.
The win leaves Rohl’s team on 66 points alongside Hearts who play Livingston in West Lothian at 2pm tomorrow – two and a half hours ahead of Celtic’s match against Dundee at Dens Park.
The encounter gives the champions the opportunity to add to hoist their tally to 64 points.
