Blunted wing play cost Celtic against Hibs

148

On Friday we discussed that a win over Hibernian would likely be required if we were to maintain our spot at the top of the table, and so it proved.  The normal anxiety of slipping two points off the pace is not evident among the support, perhaps because it is Hearts at the top of the pile.  That relaxed tone might be justified this season, but will not last forever.  Our visit to Tynecastle in four weeks is already looking pivotal.

Although Celtic dropped two points and became only the third side this season who failed to score against Hibs (14 games in), there was evident improvement in the champions’ play.  Kelechi Iheanacho looks like he is enjoying playing for a team who create so many chances.  He remains short of match practice, which will hopefully sharpen him and covert near misses into goals.

Marcelo Saracchi played his best game so far for Celtic, largely inverting into the old Greg Taylor role.  This worked to an extent but left Sebastian Tounekti isolated, without the overlapping foil he has used to such good effect in his previous appearances.  Hibs defenders knew to expect him to cut inside and were able to blunt him accordingly.

The right side of attack did not work throughout the game.  Anthony Ralston returned from injury behind Daizen Meade.  Anthony also played inside yet frequently, looked up to find no one on the wing, as Daizen had drifted into the middle.  James Forrest did not improve things when he came on.  Neither wings worked well.

Benjamin Nygren was one of several players rested ahead of Thursday’s Europa League game.  His appearance on 67 minutes added drive to Celtic in the middle of the park, which until then lacked directness.  Running at defenders is a low-probability play, but it disrupts opponents who are settled into a solid block.

Fair play to Hibs for coming to Celtic Park and playing out from the back throughout.  They are not a great side and relied on free kicks to get into Celtic’s final third, but you can see what David Gray is building.

    If not it’s worth a watch…

    ===≈================

    Thanks 3sy 👍

That’s quite hatchet job by Candice Owen exposing how monies given in good faith are used nefariously.(no qualms on that fraud)

However George Floyd is the victim,he is dead, that should not have happened. That should be the centre of focus. That death detonated an explosion across cities in the US and respectful action here.George Floyd is still dead.

I would have liked further content on the amount of deaths in police custody, not only in that city, but in the US as a whole, its prisons etc, that is the reason for the continued outrage as there are more black deaths even today, statemurder still persists as does the anger and rage of victims.i disagree with Candice to an extent, the outrage and explosion of anger was down to George’s addiction is way to simplistic imo.Poverty, drugs and exclusion in the US is rife, mix that in with the sinister ‘correction industry that profiles black people, leading to many of them dieing in custody/prison just as George Floyd did

Don’t forget wee right wing Candice has her own bias in the mad world of US black politics/media let alone US politics/media,as shown in her painting of George Floyds character,

addict, criminal past, chaotic background against the poor wee(my bias) innocent polis whose knee inhibited another man’s breathing to the point he caused that man to die.

    Hail Hail

  3. An Tearmann – I’m sure there are other deaths which have occurred in police custody in Minnesota, but I do not recall hearing of them, at least not over the last few years. George Floyd was a violent man and an addict. The police in question felt they had to use the necessary restraint to hold him down. I don’t agree with the force used, but I think I understand why it happened. The officers in question deserved the punishment they received. However, the violence that erupted in Minneapolis as a result was completely out of proportion and was fueled by left wing radicals, paid to incite trouble. It set downtown Minneapolis back maybe 5 years – I just spent the weekend there and it is getting better, although many business have pulled out.

I don’t know where you live, but with respect, reading your comments I don’t think you really have idea what you’re talking about when it comes to the reality of living in the US. Try looking at the reaction/aftermath to the murder of Charlie Kirk compared to that of George Floyd. You’ll maybe get a sense of what segment of the population is driving the violence. Research 2025 corruption in Minnesota and you will see how millions of tax payers dollars have been embezzled due to lack of governance and basic incompetence by the state leadership. This is a heavily taxed and wealthy state, with consistently strong per capita income but it is being mismanaged by a state government voted in by people living in +/- 5% of the land mass.

I don’t have strong leanings politically, but I know good people from bad, and I know where the problems in this state originate from.

    I

  4. Charlie Kirk was killed by “one of his own”. Look at the reaction of those in power. He was part of a very diffrent gang.

EVERTON v WEST HAM last night.

I was waiting on Everton winning 2 – 1 to go along with my Two Correct Scores from the weekend.

Sadly, Everton only DREW with West Ham 1 – 1.

Happily, I decided to CASH OUT around 85 minutes as it looked like West Ham were MORE likely to Score ?

So, I still made a tidy profit.

    Im happy enough.

    Interesting lead…

“The right side of attack did not work throughout the game. Anthony Ralston returned from injury behind Daizen Meade. Anthony also played inside yet frequently, looked up to find no one on the wing, as Daizen had drifted into the middle.”

Yes, Arne was on the right touchline and put a great weighted pass forward to Daizen who was standing like a statue – very un-duracell bunny like right wing is dysfunctional.

Compare and contrast that to this time last year in the UCL when we had AJ, Arne and Kuhn knitting in excellently, a great out ball, great assists and goals wonderful intricate passing giving an end product.

That doesn’t happen overnight – the right recruitment, the technique, conditioning and tactics are trained at Lennoxtown, on talented players.

With AJ back, a run of games for Arne and persevere with Daizen (do we have a choice) let’s see where it takes us.

    Colby for Thursday me-thinks.

P67, is obviously a fan of Nygren, I would agree – very good player in the final third, which we badly need.

He is getting criticism for too little dig and “missing” some chances – BSR used to say when Celtic players got criticism like that, if they had all the talents, they wouldn’t be at Celtic.

Got to agree – but I think he has the attributes to develop into a first class mid.

    We’ll see.

    Hail Hail

  8. BIG JIMMY

    Well done.

    I had £10 on Livi to draw 1-1 @ 7/1.

When they announced 7 minutes stoppage time at 1-1 I cashed out for £60. Sure enough, the Huns went on to score the winner and I had a good consolation prize.

    A nice little earner.

  10. Still gutted we are not in the big cup this week.

We could not have got an easier draw (perhaps away game first) than Almaty.

Crazy we are where we are. Whatever the reason really. We all have our thoughts on these and probably will never agree.

  12. Still hopefully we can get momentum back on Thursday with a win and head toward a really tough one at the weekend. Good Motherwell team with a very smart coach. Won’t be easy but will be even better if Hertz drop points in their derby.

It could be a good week. Maybe even a turning point.

    Thanks for your reply.

I agree,I am sure there where other deaths in Minnesota,as deaths occurred US wide, consistently, year on year i forward that ignoring the deaths, sweeping under the carpet would be one reason why there was an explosion in riot forwhat happened.

I agree George Floyd was a criminal, correction another dead black criminal. The violence you suggest was out of proportion the black community may differ in that opinion after many of their community died in custody, even tho it harmed their own

    communities.

I live in Glasgow MN,I am in touch daily with my US friends,my only assertion is George Floyd is dead. You maybe correct saying I don’t live there, but does that exclude me from commenting?do show where.

MN I have no doubt there is massive corruption,in the US the fight, like here is between local and central govt,(US central&state gov)

with Central govt cutting and states increasing taxes.it ends up open season on corruption, resulting in capital flight from cities US wide, that money is not going to the poor,it increases the wealth of the rich, and it does so at an increasing rate, the gap with rich and poor in US getting wider with every £/$ added to its deficit.i would forward the reasons for the horrendous violence are more to do with massive inequality and poverty stats that get increasingly wider.

We in the UK are following the US model, here we can already see capital flight as central government has continually cut local gov funding, our town centre are now charity shops central, looking run down, dilapidated, heading down the US route as the rich have added to their wealth enormously esp over covid here.

Anyway hope you and yours are good, any potential Calmac replacements out there?

  16. To be fair, the Larsson merchandise would have been a long time in progress and would have been subject to contracts between the club and Adidas, so it would have been a costly exercise to cancel. These items don’t just appear overnight.

In any case, I thought there was a merchandise boycott. I’m pretty sure nobody is being forced into buying.
