Bobby and Tommy, men with established priorities

412

You are going to read lots about Tommy Burns, who we lost 10 years ago today, and Bobby Murdoch, the first of the Lions to go, on this date in 2001, so I’ll share an observation on both.

Tommy’s coffin was carried into the church by Ally McCoist and Walter Smith.  Tommy had lots of friends, former team-mates and players, as well as a large family.  There was no shortage of candidates to carry the man’s mortal remains, but in extending the invitation to Walter Smith and Ally McCoist, he left you and me something to live up to.

There can be few more public expressions of an intimate invitation.  How well do you and I reach across the city to others?  I have considered that question, on and off, for almost 10 years.

The only time I met Bobby Murdoch he went straight to asking me what I did for a living.  Then he talked about his wife, Kathleen, and her job.  There were a dozen others in the room, nine of whom were Lisbon Lions, but that was what Bobby wanted to talk about.  His priorities were well established.

Just a flying visit. I know a few people had been looking to get in touch with Desert bhoy, concerned he hadnt been around.

He’s back on mail now if anyone is still looking.

Which only proves that we can never be sufficiently pedantic.

  4. I ask you to take a minute out and imagine this was our club that done this.

The media in this country are complicit in corruption especially when it concerns RFC old and new RFC.

They would be shouting it from the rooftops if this was us that was found guilty in gaining a licence over other deserving clubs.

  5. Res 12 was to hold the SFA to account in the application of their own rules, the SFA have now blamed a dead club for causing it to issue a licence or endorse the application, the people who did this the placemen of the dead club who continue to sit on committees to this day are the ones who should be getting held to account in the first instance, however that is s…..g in your own bed, therefore the SFA to protect themselves charge a dead club, another attempt to whitewash this issue by the SFA, this has a long way to go and like it or lump it clubs will need to say no more, get the SFA to open an enquiry with nothing off limits and see where that takes us.

I do still smoke. Rather enjoy a puff, but I realise that I am addicted to tobacco. Stopped smoking, then started back on the fags, many times. I know it is bad for my health but ……….

Will stop when it kills me probably, like it did my dad, God rest him. Wish I never started smoking 40 years ago. Heyho

My heartfelt appreciation to Les Resolutioners. Every last one of them for staying focused, stoic and resolute. ( sounds like an old gers half back line…)

Hard to believe the charges will fall, the agreement already done and dusted. Time for some public Denials, posturing and angst.

Then the penalty applied with utmost rigour.

I expect that this time, we will see some justice…

Again, well done lads. Celtic heroes to a man/woman!

Rangers claiming that the Scottish FA charges take hard earned money away from grassroots football in our game….. really? Are they going to play that card again? Funny how they didn’t care when they were screwing our game over the EBT scandal.

Aberdeen have launched an appeal against Logan’s red card , unsurprisingly.

I hope the fan footage of him hitting out at Mikael and the stupid tweets he has made about us are used by the panel to show his contempt for us.

Huge thanks and well done to Auldheid , Canamalar and all the Res12ers.

Have to say I am surprised at this development, although let’s see what the final outcome is.

Sevco statement strongly hints at 5way stitch-up promising immunity. How does that make the LNS verdict look?

Sevco going on about the cost! Err, what price do you put on sporting integrity? Oh and aren’t you the “same club” that robbed the taxman of tens of millions? Absolutely no shame!

    Re-the news about The Rangers.

Firstly Rangers will be turning in their grave.

Not at the cheating of course, just at being caught and held to account. Not dignified at all.

Someone mentioned earlier a statement from Celtic should be forthcoming, Bada Bing perhaps, respectfully I disagree.

Process is now in place, let it play its course publicly.

Aye,I still get twitchy,of course I do. But to start smoking again,I’d have to get dressed, walk about half a mile to buy some.

One thing I’ll NEVER do is be the preachy convert. Disgusting habit, etc. It might well be,but I thoroughly enjoyed it for nearly forty years.

  29. Anyone who thinks they are gonna get done really needs to calm down, it’s the sfa we are talking about and it’s the huns, that’s the reality, I think it’s far too soon for congratulations here bhoys, the sfa have only cited them, they will fight it and will probably get off with it, if they do get any sanction, the scale ranges from a £1000 fine to expulsion from the sfa comps, so a guilty verdict and it’s a £1000 fine imo, or a not proven would be my reckoning.
