Bobby and Tommy, men with established priorities

412

You are going to read lots about Tommy Burns, who we lost 10 years ago today, and Bobby Murdoch, the first of the Lions to go, on this date in 2001, so I’ll share an observation on both.

Tommy’s coffin was carried into the church by Ally McCoist and Walter Smith.  Tommy had lots of friends, former team-mates and players, as well as a large family.  There was no shortage of candidates to carry the man’s mortal remains, but in extending the invitation to Walter Smith and Ally McCoist, he left you and me something to live up to.

There can be few more public expressions of an intimate invitation.  How well do you and I reach across the city to others?  I have considered that question, on and off, for almost 10 years.

The only time I met Bobby Murdoch he went straight to asking me what I did for a living.  Then he talked about his wife, Kathleen, and her job.  There were a dozen others in the room, nine of whom were Lisbon Lions, but that was what Bobby wanted to talk about.  His priorities were well established.

John Terry strolling it. What a signing he could have been for us, he has Celtic leanings too.

Always been partial to self-deprecating humour. Fuxake,if you canny laugh at yourself, etc. There’s a fair bit of it around on here, btw. Including a nice one from SLIMJIM.

    Sorry,PHILBHOY. Easy mistake to make…

  9. The Minx and I attended the Tommy Burns 10th anniversary memorial Mass tonight at St Mary’s, Calton.

It was a wonderfully moving experience and full of references to Celtic as you’d expect.

I’d like to also mention the oration from CQNs own VFR at the end. I won’t steal his thunder by telling you what it was about but rest assured you’ll know all about it soon! Great speech F.

Special mention tonight also for the 4 Resolutioners. Your application, diligence, temerity and steadfastness has resulted in today’s news. In spite of the abject failure of the clubs in Scotland to back your work, you’ve achieved much. Take a bow lads.

Just one wee question following today’s announcement that perhaps @ScottishFA can provide some clarity on.

I understand that this SFA compliance officer report was completed at the turn of the year. Why the delay until now?

To enable the top 2 at the SFA to escape…..

  17. The only surprise to me is that the SFA didn’t make this announcement on the opening night of the World Cup.

    Justice delayed is justice denied.

No chance Sevco FC -or any related staunch Rangers/Sevco man – will suffer for this.

Craig Whyte will be blamed and Keech will pen an article about how he warned everyone in 2011 this would happen.

  18. Good evening all,

Hard evidence points to a pattern of deception and fraud over many years at Rangers. Why is the SFA not interested?
