  1. Go tell the Spartim on

The bottom line is the club as it stands today, isnt good enough nor do they care enough about being decent in Europe.

There’s a reason why some of last nights starters are not in the first 11 if everyone is fit and we only play one game a week, some get picked to play to avoid burn out of others.

to fully appreciate Angeball, we need a whole squad of Ange type players, id asked this around the time of the habitual derision of Taylor, how many of our squad that AP inherited do you think he would have went out and bought if he had the cash?

We’re currently a three wheeled car trying to win at Monza and its not a three wheeled car race.

I see nothing wrong in Ange’s assessment of the two ties in this round.

As for TFOD, i dont really give a flying ….. as long as we are in front of them the pressure is more on them

  2. My view has not changed. Im on the Ange journey but he needs his own hand picked confidant.

    HH.

  3. M80 @ 9.56

The players have not embraced Angeball — both FBs looked lost in the transition.

Our MF was shambolic — low energy / poor pressing / slow in the turn — all night.

People jogging up and down as they ran past us.

The squad are unsettled — who is responsible for what / who can they rely on.

Some see a future next season / others do not.

Huge change after 2 years stagnation and it hurts.

  4. M80 @ 9.56

Where is our ceiling just now?

They lost 4 players in Jan.

We gained 5 players in Jan.

Just how much change will we need?

The CB sized hole in our plans is there for everyone to see.

The LB of quality we did have — we burst a gut trying to punt.

We need to get rid of our delusion of adequacy that we carry based on our flat track SPL bully attitude.

Though in saying that the RR game was far too competitive for my liking.

  5. If we win the league and qualify automatically for the CL group stages, we will have the added bonus of not going into pre-season qualifiers amid the mad rush to bring in new players in the fractious early days of the transfer window.

Ange would have ample time to continue the rebuild without having to worry about big games weeks before the official start to the season as has been the case for a number of years.

This league title offers up so many added bonuses. If we win it, we will all be saying “Bodo who?”

  6. We have improved significantly since Ange came in.

There is an understandable belief that we will continue to improve and will become good enough.

    I don’t necessarily agree

There are still 2 areas where we haven’t made progress and it doesn’t appear as though time will improve. These are 2 areas we don’t seem to focus on.

Height and strength. We need to be more physical. Skilful yet stronger. I don’t believe a small Barceloan team can always be held up as proof of concept.

Backroom team. When trying to appoint Howe, we were ready to offload them. The current backroom guys turned an 18 point gap last season into a final 25 point difference. Yet, in the absence of alternatives, they are now deemed good enough.

Ange needs a critical friend. He needs assistants with pedigree, with european knowledge. I don’t believe we have this.

The journey continues. Occasionally, we may take the wrong turning. We need to be honest and reverse out. To blindly career onwards is folly.

  7. Maybe Ange has watched Kennedy and others perform, and thought, these guys really know their stuff.

Maybe the bhoy is critical in return,

    point is nobody knows.

when we are winning nobody cares.

  8. I didn`t think being knocked out of the tournament last night would bother me but it has. My confidence has taken a knock. If we beat Hibs on Sunday, my confidence will be high again :-)

PS There are USUALLY two sides to an argument but I have seen almost nothing giving Russia`s side. Also, considering the Establishment backing of Ukraine, I am not certain that we are getting the full story.

    Off to York so

    Cheerio for now.

  9. Is the Bodo/Glimt manager someone we should be speaking to? League winners, some tremendous results in Europe, and all at a fraction of the cost of our spending (no I’ve not checked 😁)

Also, someone on Reddit pointed out- if Bodo/Glimt can perform at that level on a budget similar to Aberdeen/Hearts/Hibs (their words) then it’s not just us who should be taking notice.

  10. Yeti @ 10.26

We know plenty — it was all out on show last night.

Individual / detailed coaching would appear to be non existent.

AP is a one man band and he is spread far too thin.

45 minutes of good football in the space of 6 weeks is not enough.

Too many in the squad / dugout seem to think that 3 goals past the TFOD2.1 is enough.

Too many in the support seem to think that it is enough.

We have shrunk to fit our traditional rivals.

    Not good enough.

  11. MH @ 10.31

    Interesting idea.

Unfortunately we have tried it before — the name was RD.

And we know how that finished — half ersed support from the board / squad mutiny from the usual suspects.

It could have worked if we followed it through.

    Clique broken up.

    New captain.

Freedom to scout his own players.

Brought in as the manager — not the coach to support the manager.

Plus RD brought his own troubles with him.

  12. MadMitch,

I’m not saying get rid of Ange as some of our football is tremendous. But I see no harm in having a chat with their manager so if after another year or 2 we are still unable to show progress in Europe we have options.

What troubles did Ronny D bring?

  13. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Two teams who were highly motivated, prioritised a tie, and who deployed a playbook that was 3 years in the making ….

… beat 2 teams who had less of the above.

Didn’t enjoy last night at all but am totally over it this morning.

We’re eliminated from Europe and out get trotted the litany of perceived failures, weaknesses and inadequacies.

    Two weeks ago …

“We’re on our way, all the way, to Tirana”

    Eh … no we weren’t.

And, respectfully, IMHO, any fans (short for fanatics) thinking that were deluding themselves.

    Fast forward.

“We’re terrible. Defeat is indicative of gargantuan problems”

    Again I’d disagree.

    We’re a gradually improving unit …

… bereft of our most influential player

… undertaking a generally upward journey with PLENTY of bumps along the way.

  14. MH @ 10.45

RD — comment was made at the time that he had split up from his wife just before he joined us.

Then he was adopted by the landlord of a pub in a posh Renfrewshire commuter village and his career in music took off — photos made it onto the interweb back in the day.

The getting his gear aff stunt seemingly predates his success in NY.

    .

  15. as is the way with the resident goon, that is just made up pish about Ronnie D.

    he knows nothing.

  16. MADMITCH

At the end of last summer’s transfer window during which he brought in no fewer than 18 new players, Ange made it clear that he would need a year – 3 transfer windows – to complete his rebuild.

It is very disappointing to lose out to Bodo/Glimt, but don’t forget that we have won the League Cup and sit top of the table and 3 points ahead of our rivals. We might even win a treble in Ange’s first season, but failing that, winning the league title to go with the LC would be seen by every Celtic supporter as a very successful season.

You are overreacting to one setback. You are pressing the panic button and scrambling around looking for scapegoats. Like most Celtic supporters (not all) you are hurting after last night. I know I am. But come Sunday, our full-strength 11 go to Easter Road. A victory will heal our wounds.

Finally, it is clear that the Huns victory exacerbates our disappointment. Let them have their celebration. It won’t last long.

  17. TMcL @ 11.06

If getting badly beaten in a Last 24 tie of the 3rd tier of EUFA club competition isn’t enough to get alarm bells ringing — then at what point should we be worried?

Being a flat track bully in the SPL is not enough — our reputation as a football side means more to me than local pot hunting against a weak selection of opponents.

PS — I think your player numbers are wrong.

We seem to be in “We buy any player dot com” mode.

And even at that we have missed out on quite a few positions.

  18. my biggest concern last night was how did that bhoy get the drum on the plane, through customs, in the taxi and then the return journey.

  19. Yeti @ 11.02

RD chat — unfortunately there is quite a lot of truth in that chat.

You have a terrible habit of letting personalities get in the way of your engagement with reality / truth. You must have been some laugh when you were a captain of industry.

Captain Bligh does property / facilities management — Mutiny in the works van.

    Not a good look.

    RD is an interesting chap.

Great to see him doing so well after his time with us.

For the record — Monday night was music night …

    Back in the day.

  20. dearie me,

when in doubt make up names, spout untruths, add a dash of spin, make something innocent seem unseemly,

give it a shake of superiority complex,

oh well ha has to fill his day somehows.

next up, how the green brigade and saint ninians brought down the roman empire.

  21. MADMITCH

We seem to be in “We buy any player dot com” mode.

And even at that we have missed out on quite a few positions.

So what part of “I will need 3 transfer windows” don’t you understand?

  22. Yeti @ 11.36

Fair point — I have more important stuff to deal with than your negative ramblings.

Even more important stuff happening in the house now regarding the big world out there that is collapsing around us — peoples wellbeing / livelihoods / safety — so your cynical cheapshots don’t cut it anymore / not that they ever did.

Lost a statistical programmer / offline today — has he been called up and given a gun?

Young family sitting in a flat on the 26th storey looking out at the flashes in the distance.

Manager having to admit that she moved across the border to Poland and is that OK?

Against company policy for tax reasons — I mean how do you answer that?

Who is more scary — VP or the IRS?

I don’t know these people directly — only through family who have interviewed them / recruited them / developed them / managed them and now have to keep a tracker on who is still in contact with the rest of the world or at least you know are sitting in a cold bomb shelter waiting for the bombs to drop.

Seemingly there are heated bomb shelters and cold bomb shelters — Soviet era social stratification or post 91 gentrification?

And then the absurdity that there is another team in Russia who have to get on with their work in between apologising profusely and saying that it is not being done in their name all the while knowing that sanctions will probably put them out of a job.

Consequently you and your thoughts are not important.

You have had plenty of opportunity to deliver something novel / positive.

And yet you can’t do it — all you ever get is pis* and wind — not good.

  23. TMcL @ 11.43

How many players do we need to buy?

Why does it need 3 transfer windows — sounds like someone was getting in the club’s excuses early.

If we need all these players what does that say about the squad?

What does it say about the reserves and the youths?

What players will we need in the summer?

What positions do we need to improve?

Who in the current squad will be a starter in Sept 22?

This is a ridiculous amount of change you are proposing.
