Bogus issues and a Good Old Celtic debate

1020

I’ve not spent a lot of time online this week (work sometimes creeps in) but can’t believe the amount of traction that notion that Sevco would somehow be able to acquire SFA membership of a dead club, with all associated benefits, but be in a position to dictate set terms on how past misdeeds of Rangers would be recorded.

This is a bogus debate which serves only to deflect from the more serious issues facing Sevco, namely, do they have circa £25m to pay their way this season?  If not, their pedantic views of disciplinary matters are moot, although they may be used as a principled excuse to fold a football club.

On more positive matters……….

Tony Hamilton asked me into the Celtic TV to discuss various issues surrounding the club.  We spoke about how recent events elsewhere have had a galvanising impact on supporters of Celtic and other clubs, where Celtic’s future should be.  I also gave a breakdown of what the death of Rangers would mean financially to Celtic, with or without Champions League group stage qualification, talked about how it would benefit the entire Scottish game if we found a new league to play in, and the great atmosphere we have at Celtic Park these days – which you can experience if you buy a season ticket, which you absolutely-without-a-doubt-should!

Do it now.  The video is below:

Cheers Andrew, the £35m is P67’s figure, therefore he will need to explain. If £35m peak debt is achievable then there must be some major signings on the horizon !!!

Can you explain to the less well informed of us how Celtic’s peak Debt of £35 million pounds relates to the accounts showing a debt of about £7 million?

I’ve posted this on here before:

May: -£35m, but here comes the SPL, Uefa, Sponsorship, Merchandising and large wedge of ST money

June: -£7m, ST money still coming in huge amounts (this figure appears on accounts)

July: +£0m, ST money still coming in, friendlies app. money, etc

August: +£3m, ST money is mainly in, we’re now about to start slowly sliding, due to running costs and little gate money (although it’s boosted by CL/EL)

    September: +£1m

    October: -£1m

November: -£3m, money is about to plummet, almost no income at all, huge running costs

December: -£7m, few ‘pay at gate’ customers, no Euro ties (this figure appears on the interim accounts)

    January: -£12m

    February: -£17m

    March: -£22m

    April: -£28m

    May: -£33m

A good year overall, and when the income streams in June are added in 2013, it’ll show that our debt is down by £2m.

    Note: figures are illustrative only

was BRT&H’s post the nuke you were referring too, or is there more

  13. paul67 – very good interview i dont however, agree that celtic will be playing football out with the scottish league strucutre in my life time, i am 35 years old and have heard such lofty stories and ideas for the best part of 20 years.

i know we have significantly more income than every other club in scotland and it is unlikey that others will be able to compete, but the truth is that other countries have teams that compete for titles against similiar backdrops. i honestly feel a number of things can take place to address the gap that often existed during the old firm years.

to my mind our league was set up to maintain old firm rule with unfair distribution of t.v income. to win the league in scotland a club would have to face and beat celtic and rangers regularly (making it impossible to build momentum). celtic and to a greater degree rangers spending significant amount of money to win even though that came from bank overdrafts (spending what you earned seemed to become a thing of the past when souness and murrey appeared).

personally i want scottish football to address many of the problems we have right now to make sure we are progressing the game, rather than continually looking for an escape route.

    i would like to see:

    1.league restructuring (larger/ promotion/ relegation and european play-offs)

    2. max player numbers(squad)

    3. fair distribution of commercial/ t.v deals income

    4. wage to turnover pay structure

    5. one league bodies (clear out of current employees)

if we try everything and it false then fair enough, but i dont think we have even began to consider how we can improve football for football fans, what we have done so far is looked at the commercial stuff

Sorry Mate, but this is wrong looks more like a cash flow forecast. Next a/c’s due are for the period 1/7/11 – 30/6/2012. All sponsorship, SPL, Euro prize monies will be accrued in these accounts (albeit not received) Any ST monies coming in thru’ June, relate to the following season and this will be reflected in the a/c’s. According to your calculations the club would show a significant bank o/d at the year end, but in the accounts the bank balance is cash positive.

Not sure I get what you’re meaning here (bold part). There’s no requirement for Celtic, or any other club, to tie their annual accounts in with the football season. I’ve never really read too much into the accounts and the notes to their preparation, I was simply providing an illustration as to why our end of year and interim accounts may show a healthy debt figure, whereas the maximum debt is vastly greater.

The figures I gave are speculative numbers regarding actual bank balance at the end of each calendar month.

To give a cash flow forecast, I would have put £28m for June, -£5m for January etc.

  29. Someone mention Koreans? Just found a kwality Korean dating site full of tips.

Some of these useful tips include the following –

You’re at a bar and you order a drink. You see that Korean woman order a cocktail. You tap her on the shoulder (gently) to get her attention. When she looks at you you point to the drink, make a thumbs up and say “Jjang!” She laughs and you’re in.

    – Is that where you got the thumbsup Philvis?

    ———–

You can ask her if she’s a north Korean soldier (as a joke of course.) When she says no (I hope ;-)) You can point to her body and say “mum chang” and ask if she works out with the military.

Or if you’re in bad shape healthwise you can flex (jokingly) and say “mum Jjang.” She’ll find it charming!
