Bolingoli, the shirt doesn’t fit.

I get the wisdom in including Olivier Ntcham i and Boli Bolingoli in the training camp. The former may yet have a role to play (outside his own box) at the club, Bolingoli, though, can only be there to maintain his fitness ahead of a move.

Least season’s calamitous events started with Boli giving the First Minister permission to interrupt our season.  He was lucky we didn’t lose the league by a small margin attributable to him. The shirt doesn’t fit.

There’s maybe a computer data base somewhere at CP with the names of every registered professional coach and manager in the world.

That would be the extent of any ‘tracking’.

So 3 years ago when Ange Postecoglou was at Celtic Park watching his Australian Internationalist Tom Rogic, that Celtic wouldn’t have been aware of who Ange Postecoglou was.

That , I would find harder to believe than your naive beliefs.

There’s a world of difference between Celtic maintaining professional business etiquette with third parties and actively pursuing them for employment.

    Absolute tripe.

  11. During the 2014 WC in Brazil I was coaching minor soccer, most of the weans that play over here have European backgrounds.

One of my better players was a young Canadian/Italian centre half and his hero was Chiellini, on hearing he would miss the tourney he downplayed their chances.

As it was they finished 3rd in their section behind Costa Rica and Uruguay, their only victory was over the outlanders who were bottom with one point.

I don’t like Italy or Portugal, amazing talent but it’s the theatrics that get me, I don’t see Spain in the same light.

Should Italy prevail tonight they will be the outlanders who have their own share of poseurs, however, Denmark may be a match for them.

    Totally agree on Chiellini…

    ____

Attitude and application, absolutely massive in football.

Makes me think of Puyol. Not the tallest nor most gifted technically, but what an attitude and application. Made him a great defender.

Something that KT has. Something that many who play for Celtic should have. Sadly, not much in evidence recently. Although it should be innate, I’m hopeful Ange helps foster it amongst our squad

  13. how many goals did we lose at set pieces or from crosses last season – how few goals did we fail to score from crosses / set pieces – we need areal presence in the team as a priority.

No need for the nasty tone.

    You seem angry?

Why the disrespectful tone in your post towards me?

  16. I believe we will be better coached and more tactically aware since Brendan left.

    by whom?

oh and by the way boli boli is crap.

  17. I have no issue with either Boli or Ntcham being given the chance to play their way into the team. They’re both good players who can do a shift for us.

  18. always find it amazing when players have been out for a while either from injury or just dropped that they become superstars.

  19. squire danaher on

    DD

D McKay is a smooth operator.

AP worked for a club in the City Football Group. Lawwell will have known of him given our City links.

AP has experience as an international manager, direct awareness of one of our players as a result and therefore mutual awareness exists between AP and Celtic.

    I accept that.

I don’t think that it makes me – in your words – “naive” to think that, in attempting to big up AP to the Celtic support, McKay has somewhat embellished Celtic’s “level of awareness” of him. In the corporate world, neither does that make McKay a liar.

I accept that Celtic have known of AP but I am not buying that he was in the frame as a potential manager until the Howe situation blew up.

I am also saying that anyone who thinks otherwise is being naive.

That was a nicer more respectful post.

    Thank you.

I am personally delighted that Ange Postecoglou a winner, is our new manager.

Rather than Eddie Howe a loser, whose last achievement in football was getting his team relegated.

  22. No one definitively knows Celtic’s financial position at this moment in time. How far has Covid eaten into anything we had in reserve. We made a loss of around £7m to December 2020. Even without Covid, the second half of the season, unless we are still in Europe, always has a leaner revenue stream. So we could be looking at an overall c£15m loss.

That kind of loss would almost wipe out our ‘cash at bank’ of £19m as stated in the December interim figures. The income from Frimpong & Klimala can be taken into account, c£10m after Man City payback.

So, for talking sake, adding the notional £4m left after the loss to the £10million from F,K and maybe £1.5m from Hendry we might now have c£15.5m available in the bank, outwith any new season revenue.

What we get for those wanting to leave, Christie, Edouard & Ajer is anybody’s guess – Is £30m a reasonable guess?

There is going to be a big hole in last season’s squad – the four Loanees, Broony, Frimpong and the three Wannaways.

Will the £44m guesstimate fill it – will we even spend it in full?

Bosmans seem to be the order of the day at the moment. I am sure loans will again play a major role, but it may be at the end of the window before we can trigger any of them.

We know Ibrox are in early, as usual, with a couple of what looks like first-team ready signings. They will have no compunction in spending what they feel they need to spend to get where they want to be – i.e. CL groups this year and title & automatic CL groups next year. Whilst the losses pile up year on year, money it seems is no object down Ibrox way – an utter conundrum!!!

We, on the other hand will, I suppose, do as we always do – not spend to address need, but spend only what we can afford. Will that be enough to get us back challenging robustly? – honestly I don’t know.

Celtic are in talks with Swedish stopper Carl Starfelt over a move to Parkhead.

A salutary reminder to anyone who deploys, or even advocates, a “borrow and buy” strategy.

  27. I am not totally at one with Paul over Bolingoli. I do agree that the SNPcult administration decided to make their point and ‘put the boot in’ – why, we must ask? They ‘buttoned their lips’ thereafter until they got us in their cross-hairs again in January after Dubai.

If Bolingoli had been reprimanded by Celtic, acknowledged his wrongdoing and apologised, we might have moved on quicker with a lot less grief.

SNP didn’t win the title for Ibrox, but they went out of their way to impede Celtic on two importamt occasions – once at the start of the campaign and once on the re-start in January. The Ibrox club had multiple indiscretions whitewashed.

Eddie Howe was highly rated by many – it looked as if Celtic had pulled off a master stroke He seemed to want the job, so of course Celtic pursued him. Yes, it went pear shaped, we can only make up the reasons why. It is easy to sit back and make smartass comments, but try enticing a top coach to Scottish football. The same applies to attracting top players. No-one is saying that Big Ange is the bestest coach in the whole world, but I am backing him all the way.
