I was chastised by a pal last week when I suggested the Europa League was an irrelevance right now. “We are Celtic,” he said, “We have to be competing in every competition.” Indeed.
Earlier in the season Bologna were riding high in Serie A and the Europa League. A run of 12 games unbeaten put them in contention for a Champions League spot and qualification for the next round of the Europa. The latter is still a nailed-on certainty, but only one Serie A win since November has seen them slip to 8th. Form has pivoted south so abruptly you might be tempted to check if they recruited a management team from the MLS.
A win at bottom side Verona last Thursday provided respite, but (then) third from last Fiorentina took all three points when the teams met on Sunday. This is not a happy time for football fans from the ancient city.
While form may be poor, Bologna are significantly stronger than any side Celtic will face domestically. To leave with as much as a point will take our best performance since our last Europa League away game, in Rotterdam. Some of the players’ confidence will be fortified by recent performances at Atalanta and Lazio – both better sides that the one we face tonight. An interesting test lies ahead.

Well done you Celtic Bhoys!
Fantastic result esp with 10 men for the whole of the second half.
Still in the Europa League….
Brilliant
Brill.
Now for Farts.
HH MON.
Great result and 10 men defending like that is brilliant for TEAM SPIRIT.
Incredible battling performance from the Bhoys. A very well deserved point from 10 men, for 60 mins, away in Italy. Proud.
Bolognese sauce is off the menu forever for this Tim
H.H.
Well done Celtic, that ref was unbelievable in his decisions, midfield needs major additions particularly athleticism.
Hope that wank Nancy was watching.
Now Nicholson needs to sign a few players.
Ole Harry Fathersham would have been proud of the Bhoys Tonight🍀💚
TLT
No such a thing it’s a Ragu, not the jar.
Martin O’Neil is fecking legend !!!!
A fantastic result all things considered. Trusty looks a snip at £6million.
Trusty kasper and diazen my 3 for Jobo
Trusty and Engels showing what money buys ….absolutely brilliant
Let’s strengthen that bench for Tynecastle. We’ve two days. Don’t waste them, Celtic.
Dessybhoy, I know it’s a Ragu but it’s a Bolognese sauce, so my point stands
H.H.
brilliant character , brilliant effort. Despite Hatate and poor sub decisions. I thought Kenny did well when he came on . Just hope we have energy for Sunday. New lads will help and Hatate owes his team mates – IF he somehow ever plays for Celtic again.
Finally – I cant stand watching football when it’s not 11 v 11 – it robs the fans of entertainment. If its a 2nd yellow , the player should be replaced. If it’s a straight red fair enough. Watch in slow motion- Hatate kicks the player and also swings at his head. Normally straight red . The Italians know how to milk
finally again – they have 3-4 players who are far better than what we have.
My man of the match…the GHost
Character fight resilience to get away with a point, fantastic Celtic
MO’N & Shaun well done in picking up the pieces, unbeaten in second spell
Nancy tonight would have been catastrophic
Onto Sunday now
Can the club get a real quality signing in to change the dynamic at Tynecastle
Trusty, Maeda and Scales gave there all for the jersey
No failures – everyone worked hard. Well done Celtic.
Wee tear in my eye. That was Celtic. Despite the suits Martin works miracles.
If only some could enjoy the moment.
great point – the team is on its knees – time for Michael Nicholson (He’s our CEO in case you didnt know) – I had to google it because I’ve never seen or heard him talk Celtic. Time for him to sign a BOOST player in time for the weekend. I will never forgive him EVER , if he doesn’t help MON the legend !!
Blogger geeze peace ya weirdo.
Why oh Why did we not leave Maeda up the park ,then they would have to have a minimum of two players to cover him.
Happy with the result but I think we missed a chance for three points
When that wave of emotion comes over you ,Like a big jessie sellic supporter
Hope it never leaves me…….
Good confidence result,March onto swinecastle
Would have won that if we had 11 on
Watched in slight delay.
Stayed away from my phone.
Brilliant
Well done Martin and the bhoys.
Looking forward to reading back later
A series of GIRUYs to
Jamie Lyall (HHB)
That ref
Anyone who is not for us
PS – SPFL, be very afraid.
We’re on the way up.
Trusty, KT excellent
Big Tam gonna burst the swine bubble
I’ve never heard of this team the huns are playing.
Do they have a chance?
Below us in the table
Shurely….No negative comments tonight????
Brilliant point and rearguard effort. Top marks to Trusty. Scales, KT, Colby and Schmeichel all put it in for the cause. That French fraud would’ve lost that game 8-1 and still talked about ‘ze performance’. Well done Martin and the coaching team.
Congrats to the whole team. Except Hatate. What a show pony he has become. The ref was fussy but what a prima donna reaction having just been booked. Has ran the rest of the team ragged whilst he’s sat on his arse and now they have to go to Tynecastle. Selfish. Been a great signing but time to sell in the summer.
Still, a superb effort from the rest of the team.
Brilliant result tonight. How many times have we won on Italian soil? Our player stood tall tonight, worked hard…10 men getting something from that tie was an huge achievement.
Well done MON and the team behind him.
what a moral dilemma – we need the SF49er clones to win !
Timmy7.
Exactly. We are enjoying the moment but someone has to interject a snidey comment.
Obviously the moment means less to him than petty point scoring.
No sense of irony. D’oh!
In MON we trust (and wee Shaun)
The girl saying Khon on a wonderful run going into their game tonight
Aye very good hen ..no mention that if they don’t win tonight…
they could be bottom of europa league…
Cmon Malmo etc …..
