With 26 career goals, 25 of which came in a Dundee United shirt, £1.5m sounds a tad generous for Nadir Ciftci. Celtic’s earlier offer of £900k sounds more like the mark but Wigan have validated United’s target price with a deal with meets their requirements, if not that of the player’s.
Is he a player to improve Celtic? Quite possibly, he’ll bring something we don’t have at the moment – a sticky out ball – but it’s a big ask to expect him to step up to Champions League levels. Signing that level of player might take Champions League money, but we’ll need to get there first, which is why we need to bolster the attack quickish.
Two years ago we talked about the number of senior games a good player is able to make before he’s noticed by those to rich and lazy to do as much low-level research Celtic must do to unearth a gem.
Victor Wanyama made 51 appearances before becoming a Celtic player, Virgil van Dijk made 62. It’s likely both spent the bulk of those games without anyone paying much attention to them, Celtic’s scouts are likely to have been alerted when they have little more than a dozen or so games left at their previous clubs.
Ciftci’s made 67 senior appearances. If he has what it takes, the world will know about it sooner rather than later.

Folks,
I was wondering if any CQNr’s have experience with Celtic’s Overseas Season Ticket?
I remember Auldheid promoting them (I think). Have any/many of you signed up for this in the past?
Thanks,
Ronnie

What’s so bad about that? If there was any genuine corruption at our club, I genuinely believe that our fans would be all over it.
The Rangers/Sevco story develops every day. Our own corporate governance is a bit more smooth sailing.
Just been informed that Trabzon are manouvering with a bid for Nadir Çiftçi.
Cant see anything on TR news/websites/gossip/wash-house etc etc etc.
careful with that tax, moonbeams

To me it is all about the club, not the team per se, (if it was all about the team and glory I’d follow the huns of the 90′s, or Chelsea, or such) ..
WTF..
Who mentioned Winning.. If You are a Glory Hunter by All means Come back when the Champions League is three 18 Team League and Celtic gets similar to Man U and Barca in Revenue and can Nearly compete with them Financially.. And make You Happy..
As Ole Spok would say.. It’s Football Jim but Not as We Know it.. Lol

Celtic are losing the support, not the glory hunters, the older supporters are asking questions and not getting answers that satisfy.
One day I’ll be brave, I’ll drink a couple of bottles of whisky and shove up a list of my perceived failings of our board.
But when that day comes all I’ll be doing is giving the hun ammunition to fire.
We have massive problems as a club under our conceived identity going forward, there has to be a day of reckoning and there’ll be dragons that day.
Or we just continue to downsize and hail a mediocre player like Cifti as a good signing.
You can’t take Celtic out of the man, but you can take his soul and his breath.

Cheers for the info re Luke Donnelly quite possibly going out on loan to Morton,I hope he gets a run as i imo i think he could be one of the youngster to come thro.Oh and JNP you do know he is of sound Bellarmine Stock and a good footballing family :-) it would be great if he can make it,but as others have written its easier to become a surgeon.
cheers for the updates Ghents

First time sign up for the OST for me this season but I got one for my son and he tells me the Celtic TV part of it it is excellent.
The team that deal with it at CP have been very helpful.

67heaven…,
I’m afraid I only see passionate Celtic supporters, I’ve witnessed neganon2 and many others I think you’d consider full time board bashes, congratulate our board (a familiar face is missing). Sometimes it feels like that’s all I do to be honest (and why I thought I was included in your sights), because the chances to praise them are few and far between but I do my best never to miss an opportunity to praise them.
I’ll tell you one of my underlying worries and what makes me very concerned is that the board have concentrated on substantially increasing the value to the real estate, IMO at the expense of the team on the park, I actually think this is a strategy to only increase the value of selected individual shareholders stock as opposed to doing what is best for all the shareholders and the club as a whole. I hope I’m very very wrong but people with that kind of money do not tend to have much else but making more money for themselves and that usually means someone or something will be sacrificed to achieve those ends.
Summa of Sammi….
I think you read my post wrong, I wasn’t talking about winning, I was talking about having ambition to win or in the absence of ambition… to fleece the populace that supports the club the price of a longer, heated driveway.

Jonny the Tim,
If we sign him I expect his improved behaviour to be a condition of his transfer, remember he deliberately sunk his teeth into a player, now I understand the maxim of fighting tooth and nail for your team but I don’t expect any player to actually enact it.
The Griff had some behavioural problems which appear to have been dealt with and hopefully will not be repeated, if Cifti signs then we can hope for a similar response.
And yes I do expect the refs to run to form when dealing with players in the hoops that’s why we need to be cuter and biting people sort of draws attention, no ?

…bet we’re looking at other strikers, and leaving the meeja to their shoite speculation
Weeron,
I’m in my third season now. The season ticket gets you 5 “credits” for a season (Celtic give the seats to desreving causes, when you don’t use them).
For those 5 credits, you can see five season ticket games. Or (as I’ve done with my wee fellah) you can use one of the credits so you can both go together.
You also get a year’s subscription to Celtic TV.
I like the deal as I feel I’m still contributing to the club, without there being an empty seat there every week.
I wonder if the legendary players given pride of place in the refurb of Celtic Park would think that Ciftci would merit a place.
PL offering us the history of our legendary players, while signing the likes of Ciftci.
Something not quite adding up there.
HH
Burgas Hoops and RWE……
Many thanks for your replies. Having just retired, I hope to get home from Canada once or twice a year. This looks like an opportunity to support Celtic, and support the Club’s Mission Statement.
I appreciate your responses at a time when the blog is loud with the sound of folks criticizing our Club.
Many thanks,
Ronnie
And by the looks of it….we wont be seeing any more legendary players at Celtic Park.

It is always a good idea to increase the overall value of a Club / business to ensUre it has a good chance of surviving recessions etc……but, you’re right, there is a balance…..I, personally, believe the Board have that balance right since it will show up in the accounts if they get it wrong at any stage……
The Green Man
If Scotland still produced great players then maybe. We don’t develop young players from the youth team. We have an insatiable thirst for signing players from elsewhere.
Yeah, Nostalgia as you approach Celtic Park….Huge display of Celtic Legends.
But a rude awakening when you enter, and see how far we have fallen in terms of players.
Not impressed at all.

There’s nearly 2 months to go in the ‘window’
Summa of Sammi….
I went off on the tangent I did because you wrote
“The team on the field is ALL you care about”.
I construed that as a winning team, maybe wrongly.
Any word from Jim Spence on Tayside? – he”s the man the Utd directors give the news. The longer the story is floated the more time DU supporters have to realise the inevitable, and get used to it.
kitalba
You say that as if great players want to even come here to play. The economics of football have changed dramatically. Bournemouth are richer than us and a more attractive proposition. People see Scotland as a footballing graveyard.
You have to face the cold hard facts.
Rioskorrie….
Thanks.

I know….im getting my bit in early.
I do think its rather, lets say ironic, that the new refurb highlights the Celtic greats, while buying the cheapest players they can find.
Maybe they just think we are stupid.
