Bonfire of the nonentities

How would you prepare to face a Celtic team that had already beaten you four times and drawn once this season? In their wisdom, Newco have decided this is the week to add to the clear out of talent on and off the park. It was confirmed yesterday that finance director Kenny Barclay will leave at the end of the season.

Since chairman Douglas Park resigned a month ago, the blood on the brogues has extended to chief exec Stewart Robertson, sporting director Ross Wilson, and football admin director Andrew Dickson. While I understand new chairman John Bennett is a wealthy man, he does not have the wherewithal of Park, so a downsize is no surprise. This particular trend has a way to go yet.

Today The Sun report they are inviting offers for striker Antonio Colak, just days after Mick Beale confirmed he was far from upset at the prospect of losing Alfredo Morelos for free this summer. Ryan Kent and Allan McGregor are also confirmed for the departure lounge, while others out of contract are certain to follow.

Back in the day, when Celtic were on top, Rangers would prepare for us with a siege mentality – us against the world stuff. Now the disinterest is striking. Ange Postecoglou must make the most of whatever discord exists at Ibrox on Saturday. It will not be us against the world, but it will be us against the other 50,000 in attendance. Get the siege mentality working in our favour.

I’m with you. Hart did hit long eventually in first half vs Hearts but i never stuck

I thought the front 3 were the issue, not the midfield

  4. I think Celtic have found the young keeper that they are supposed to be looking for.

Great character from the young bhoys……..where’s tavpen when you need him.

  6. 2 of the their goals were given to them by our carelessness playing our from the back. Too casual.

  7. I’m sure Young Lawal will come good ,he is still raw ,but needs to clear the ball rather than dribble out of defence,

Van Veen or Duk not good enough for Celts ?..I beg to differ…talent in Scottish league is scarcer than a “ Rangers “ trophy …get them in as back up Celts and deflate them🍀💚😎

  10. I know we get annoyed by the mistakes that inevitably result from asking players to be brave on the ball and play out from the back

But……. it is Ange’s way and they are following instructions. Ange does allow long ball clearances when it is the necessary move but he doesn’t want the teams overusing this allowance and interpreting every situation as a “must clear this or I’ll look a fool”.

If you understood what Ange said about not subbing Leo Hatate every time he looked knackered on 60 minutes, then you’ll know why we play out from the back.

Ange said, if I take Leo off every time he’s knackered, he’ll expect it and he’ll never develop the ability to play on further and test his real depths.

Well. it’s the same, with playing out from the back. If Ange said every time they hoof it, “I understand you felt pressured”, then they’d never learn how to resist that pressure.

It annoys me too when we lose goals like we did tonight but we lost them so we won’t lose them when these players are good enough to bridge the first team gap.

It would be good to see some of our better 18 and 19 year olds going down to clubs like Fleetwood under Broony to give them their next stage.

I’d give Rocco Vata first team game time to encourage him but very few are good enough to go from 5th tier football to 1st tier with the Champion club. Even Rocco would benefit from a season of regular football at an intermediate level.
