BONNER PRAISES GORDON

FORMER Celtic goalkeeping hero Pat Bonner reckons Craig Gordon has silenced a lot of his critics.

The Scotland international No.1, who celebrated his 35th birthday on Hogmanay, has been in line for snipers this season.

However, his display against Sevco Rangers in the goalless draw at Parkhead will have helped convince the doubters that he is a top quality keeper.

Gordon made two world-class stops from James Tarvernier and Alfredo Morelos after the interval to keep his fourth successive clean sheet.

Bonner said: “I have always said Craig is the best goalkeeper in the country and he proved it again against Rangers (sic).

“He made a couple of unbelievable saves and, while I know Celtic created chances of their own, you could argue he was the reason they managed to earn a point.

“Both teams had big chances and if Celtic had taken some of theirs in the first-half, it may have been a different game, but they didn’t.

“That let the opposition come out in the second-half and have a go and they played very well.

“They created some great opportunities, but that is why you need a top goalkeeper like Craig.

“He can make saves like that and I’m sure his team-mates would have been be grateful although he’ll see it as just doing his job.

“Craig has taken a bit of stick this season, but I think it has more been down to his use of the ball from the back, as opposed to his shot stopping.

“But it’s an area of his game he has worked hard on and improved.”
