Amateurish tactics, thinking we could go toe to toe with them.
Very damaging result mentally for the players.

It’s not knives out, it’s just how we played tonight. I still love this team but the goals we gave up tonight were absolutely awful. We have to be smarter than that, and if it means lumping the ball down the field then so be it. Wasn’t expecting anything out of this game, but wasn’t expecting that type of performance either.
Shocked.Battered by a team light years ahead of us.Could have been worse.. Master craftsmen v Honest tradesmen.Ross County up next…..3 points Bhoys please.

Borussia Dortmund new Manager, and former player, Nuri Sahin, a bona fide class act…
Animated and motivated throughout the match, was like a twelth man, though Borussia didnt need one…

They read every ball into the midfield we were trying to play and won the interceptions more often than not, piling forward, Schmeichel had a lot of good saves but also could have been better at times, they pressed in the right areas McGregor Engels hardly got a look in and didnt have the pace to lose their markers, our attacks into their box even then we couldnt get a break of the ball, we were outclassed on the park and read like a book.
stebhoy on
Can’t fault the effort of the players. Too many were just off it tonight. Wrong team started and wrong formation.
This is in Rodgers – he’s also learning about this team. Let’s see if he changes it for future away games.
Not getting down on the players – this was a night everything fell for Dortmund and their class was there to see.
We don’t have the quality, or league to bring in these players but 7-1 is on Rodgers tonight. He won’t let his ego pick a defensive team despite being burned many times in the past.
I expected this from Ange , not Rodgers. Let’s see if he learns , finally.

Naive stuff from Celtic tonight! Will we learn from tonight? Will Brendan learn from tonight? Celtic’s tactics were a dream for Borissia tonight, We continued to play a suicidal passing game in our own half, and looked slow and pedantic compared to the opposition.
I hope we don’t regret the goals conceded in terms of goal difference at the end of this stage of the competition.
boondock saint on
Anyhoo, game is over, can’t change anything. Onwards and upwards to the next one. I know those players and management will be hurting just as much as we are. We are celtic supporters faithful through and through, and even more so after that result as we have been spoiled lately so sometimes you get back down to earth with a smack in the face like this. Be ready to take all the shoite that will come our way in the press and the gloating from the Huns in the media and wherever. But we stick together and come back stronger.
Hail Hail the Celts are here.

Boondock – knives out maybe a bit strong I concede but team selection and formation do not legislate for the luck Dortmund carried nor the fact some players can’t pass a ball or keep their composure.
Plenty games to go and I don’t think we will play a better team than Dortmund all season.

Elite level jackassery to play the full game with the same tactics
So angry, not at the players but the management team couldnt change the system, take a winger off and shore up midield
This is mot the first time in europe either
we do not have the squad or experience against top teams to play like that
I hope this lesson is now well and truly learned, but I somehow doubt it

Difficult watch , our centre halves are just not up to it at this higher level , we’ll need to dust ourselves down , get the heads up , and get ready for the weekend.
My rule of thumb is that say over the last 10 years we have been 5 goals worse than most of the top 8 eight in Europe, so results like tonight can and do happen.
If we tried to lump it etc etc then this would lead to exactly the same outcome. Only real solution is a faster and better back 4 , end of.

I had no illusions of getting a result tonight. I expected a minimum 4 goal defeat but I expected that Dortmund would have work harder to create their chances
We just served them up on a silver platter through poor ball control at this level.

A sugary team that beat Dortmund 5-1, drew tonight at home against a Sparta Prague side that had just over 20% of the ball.

Dortmund may well finish in the top eight of the CL League.
Their manager drove them on from the first minute to the last and their performance reflected that.
Will challenge for both their League and the CL
Pity we hadn’t got a goal or two in the second half just for our overall goal diff.
Hopefully the toughest opposition we will meet in the new format

What happens in Scotland stays firmly in Scotland and cannot be extrapolated into the top European environment. Almost all our opponents in Scotland recruit, to some degree, from the lower leagues and non-league in England. How on earth can this equip us when we face quality. We all know this but choose to overlook because we are desperate for Celtic to do well.
Our next game is Ross County which sums it up really –
I’m slightly relieved as it could have been ten tonight

Ah well, nobody died.
Scales and Kasper can hold their heads up. Valle looked promising. Hatate should have started.
Disapointed with Engles, Bernardo and Johnston. But they will recover and bring glory to Celtic later in the season.
Brendan has to change our formation to suit certain games. But its a lesson he refuses to learn. That being said, he wasn’t responsible for some of the terrible passing this evening.
At least when we wake up tomorrow, we will still be Celtic fans.
Imagine being a Hun? Hoping Celtic slip up to give you a chance of a League Cup trophy to make your season 😊

Didn’t exoect a result tonight, but disappointed by how easily we gave the ball away against a really good team.
Positive note was Alex Valle looks like he will do well for us once he settles in.
Emma Dodds seems to be enjoying her evening though.

Please God, Ross County try and play out from the back against us, defend from the half way line when attacking and throw men forward without a thought for turnovers.
But I don’t think they’re that stupid, unfortunately.

it is an absolute feckin disgrace that celtic over the last feckin generation of domination (sounds just like something the huns would come up with) have managers who think they can play 4-3-3 away from home (and at home mostly) against top level and second tier teams.
Our managers are mentally deranged and our players mentally and physically weak in europe against fair to good sides.
my son has only just started going to the away games. He’ll grow sick of pish like that a whole lot quicker than the guys i know who have followed them every where from the arctic circle to the outposts of the former soviet union and who now pick and choose their away trips.
