BOXING DAY CHEERS 2018: PANDEMONIUM AT PITTODRIE

ABERDEEN 3 CELTIC 4: Boxing Day 2018

IT was pandemonium at Pittodrie as Scott Sinclair fired in a brilliant hat-trick and Celtic emerged with three points from a dramatic seven-goal thriller.

The frantic confrontation see-sawed in remarkable fashion as referee Kevin Clancy awarded the Dons two dodgy penalty-kicks to keep the outcome in the balance right up until the final whistle.

Sinclair got the show on the road with the opening strike in the sixth minute, but  that was wiped out by a Stevie May spot-kick in the 24th minute. That’s the way the scoreline remained until the England international forward claimed a second for Brendan Rodgers’ men in the 76th minute.

HIGH AND MIGHTY…Scott Sinclair celebrates one of his hat-trick in the 4-3 win at Pittodrie.

That triggered a sensational four-goals-in-eight-minutes burst when the hosts were handed another penalty-kick and on this occasion Sam Cosgrove stepped up to leave Craig Gordon helpless.

Odsonne Edouard restored the champions’ advantage when he clipped in No.3 in the 86th minute and the points appeared secure when Sinclair completed his terrific trio two minutes later. However, the scoring wasn’t finished and Lewis Ferguson added a third for Derek McInnes’ men in the fading moments.

That brought down the curtain on an exhilarating and exciting encounter in the north east.

TEAM: Gordon; Lustig, Boyata, Benkovic, Izaguirre (Sub: Hayes 46); Brown, Rogic; Forrest (sub: Ajer 89), McGregor (sub: Edouard 70), Christie; Sinclair.
