Boyata crucial part of CL planning, failure to emulate Gretna

1050

I know Ronny Deila was delighted Dedryck Boyata pitched up at Glasgow Airport last night.  He’s a player the manager has known about for some time and one who was not on the Man City available list when we secured the loan deal for Jason Denayer a year ago.

The mechanics of the deal are interesting.  It’s quite possible it wouldn’t have happened at all without the success Jason enjoyed in Glasgow.  A year ago Jason was a complete unknown, below the pecking order than Dedryck, but we gave him a platform and now he’s a full Belgian international.  The pitch we put to Dedryck was along the lines of “Look what Jason achieved here”.  If we’d singed Dedryck instead of Jason a year ago, Jason would still be an unknown and Dedryck would be a Belgian international.

Assuming no late hiccups, Ronny will know his central defensive pairing for the Champions League qualifiers is sorted, allowing him to concentrate on other areas.

There are no guarantees in football, least of all with Champions League qualification, where we have three awkward knock-out rounds, but we’re starting the summer from a good place.

There’s so much to discuss about yesterdays’ Fir Park hilarity, the consequences of which will be profound.  More on this later in the week, but a few points on Motherwell.  For a team with such glaring shortcomings they deserved the scale of their victory.  Barraclough took a squad who finished 11th in the league into two challenging games and out-thought his opponent.

However, if Celtic fans behaved the way Motherwell fans behaved yesterday your Government would be all over it by now.  I’ve seen flares thrown onto pitches, I’ve seen pitch invasions (although I don’t remember seeing one congregating in front of opposition fans), but I’ve never seen a player smacked in the face and leg by a spectator’s flag, and I’ve never seen anything close to this entire repertoire from fans at a single game.

Who knows what the score would have been had Newco faced the team who finished 10th in the Premiership! Their attempt to emulate Grenta in winning three successive promotions always sounded like a tall order.  They came close, but they’re no Gretna. Not. Nearly. As. Good.

  6. Morning all. Sad to read about the passing of Charles Kennedy I always got the impression he was a decent man and a good politician. Sadly, he didn’t have his troubles or demons to seek. May perpetual light shine upon him.

  7. Sad news about Charles Kennedy, heard it on radio four this morning, Tells you the measure of the man, when a consummate professional James Naughtie had difficultly reading the news through a lump in his throat.

Far too young Charles Kennedy. Your flame burned hot and it may be fair to day you broke the mould. Rest in peace. Thoughts for your family.

    ”Bada Bing –

I can assure you it wasn’t your comment alone that pushed me over the edge. Earlier in the day, a friendly and sympathetic CQNer emailed me with a copy of an email he had been sent by another prominent CQNer which basically stabs me in the back with all manner of lies and innuendo.

He assures me it has been “doing the rounds” and thought it was time I was made aware of what was going on.

I was feeling physically sick from that when I read your comment and it was simply the straw that broke the camel’s back.

I obviously won’t name my informant and have no wish to name the poison pen writer. It would serve no purpose. Suffice to say, I am 61 and don’t need this.”

By posting what you posted – without backing it up by publishing said e-mail – then are not yourself merely indulging innuendo and spreading seeds of mistrust throughout the blog. It is not like you yourself have not indulged back-stabbing posters on here, nor broke confidence with confidential e-mails, previously.

Just publish the e-mail that caused you so much hurt, then let the poison pen writer be lynched; assuming he/she is truly spreading lies and innuendo, and stop being such a drama queen.

I’d imagine, and hope, that the vast majority of posters are like me and know nothing of such emails.

  15. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

Sad hearing that Charles Kennedy has passed away – seemed like a genuine man of some intelligence, principles and humour. Reast in peace, and thoughts to his family and friends – this death, as is always the case, will leave a hole in many other people’s lives.

Secret emails about posters? Childish bullying it’s true, but it is just really the modern equivalent of gossiping about someone behind their backs, and should be treated as such.

Strangely, though, it seems to engender a deeper feeling if offence because it is written rather than said.

There are many worse things in the world, as the Kennedy clan are acutely aware at the moment, so better to try to keep perspective on what is really important, and don’t let things like silly emails and petty gossip do anything other than mildly irritate you.

Tom is usually quick to demand empirical proof whenever some of the site’s more common ‘conspiracy’ targets are being discussed. Unless he follows his own lead on this,I’ll treat it with a pinch of salt.

I see Mark Warburton being quoted as having-a huge respect and admiration for the traditions and history of (Rangers)

Good luck to him. I wonder if this is the same Mark Warburton-

“Warburton took a dislike to the methods of McLintock’s successor at Leicester, Jock Wallace,[5] later saying “he was a Marine. We had runs on sand-dunes, running until we threw up. I learned a lot from that, never treating a player that way”.[7]

Sorry for late response, just up.

I didn’t say that I thought there were no agendas or cliques.

If there are cliques that e.g…undercurrent of e-mails where the clique would decide how to deal/respond to fholk…I personally have no knowledge of these and would never be party to such.

    My points were twofold:

Clique is an unfortunate word to use on CQN. I do have mobile numbers and e-mail addresses of a good few CQNers and lurkers. I use these to keep in touch with them, people I consider friends. I never use them to decide or encourage responses to other Bloggers. We are and should be individuals who should respond as individuals. I do not let any of my CQN friends influence me.

With Tom McL deciding to quit prompted me to make my earlier post. We should refrain from the personal attacks, it does not add anything to the points Bloggers make. That said in my opinion Bloggers should think about the points they want to make and how they put into words their points; interpretation often gets lost in print. Bloggers should respect others opinions and not calling them names just because they do not agree with them. I personally have often disagreed with points of view of some who Blog. I have only ever recorded my disagreement on three occasions; twice to the same Blogger and once to another. I recorded my disagreement without being derogatory.

Tom McL is someone who I communicate with from time to time via text so I suppose he is part of one of the “Cliques” I belong to.

I like you mate hope for Karma.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!
