Boyata transformation is beyond belief

840

When we signed Dedryck Boyata, while simultaneously losing loanee Jason Denayer, I heard that bullish comment from Celtic Park “We made Denayer into a regular Belgian international and we’ll do the same for Boyata.”

Teenage Jason Denayer was part of a record-breaking Celtic central defence.  Fast and skilful, there was little chance parent club Manchester City would allow him to extend his stay in Scotland.  Dedryck was older, had played less football, and City allowed him to leave for £1.5m.  The claim that we could make him into a Belgium regular seemed fanciful.

Belgium are the top team in the Fifa rankings.  Getting anywhere near this squad is an achievement, but Dedryck is now a regular fixture.  When Jason Denayer made a late entrance in the game against Iceland last night, it was captain, Vincent Kompany he replaced, not the Celtic central defender.

Dedryck has only been at Celtic three years and the early months of his time here were memorable for an own goal against Malmo and a very poor performance away to Molde.  His transformation is beyond belief.

  1. On the way to the 6-2 game, which was just when Bobby Petta had put in a string of decent performances there was a guy handing out leaflets with the words to a Bobby Petta song that he’d penned to the tune of that old primary school classic, “Allouetta”

” Bobby Petta, nobdy does it better, Bobby Petta jinking down the wing

Now he’s here (now he’s here), Now he’s there (now he’s there)

Ooooooooohhhhhhhh Bobby Petta , nobdy does it better………. (repeat to fade…)

  2. Bobby Charlton.

many year ago I got given a VHS video about Bobby Charlton,

Must have been early 80’s , offcourse I knew who he was, and the biggest of his acheivements, but I had seen little of the footballer other than the famous goals. And kinda saying thanks maw, a video about england winning the world cup.

I am not kidding, probably for 10 years he was in the top 5 players in the world.

    He was that good.

this led me on to reading a lot about him, and the more i read, the more it was that obvious, I really dont think he was ever under rated, European player of the year in 66, runner up in 67, 68. jinky was 3rd in 67.

he also won the English played of the year in 66, following on from Bobby Collins at leeds, how good must he have been ,

anytime he ever talked celtic or celts he was complimentary, his comment on Lennox being the best of praise.

i dont ever think he was under rated, In a time when these thing mattered he was lynchpin in the ebgland teams winning home championship after championship, and a true hammer of the scots on the park.

    wonderful wonderful footballer.

a complex deep man overcoming the pain of losing so many firends so young , and becoming the talisman for that generation,

i really am in awe of him.

Just back from the fair town of Saltcoats to see the statue of Celtic’s own Bobby Lennox being unveiled.

Great day out. Danny McGrain was there as was Tommy Callaghan, Roy Aitken, the controller of Scottish football, Willie haughy,Mrs McNeil, Bertie and fair play to them john greig and Andy Cameron.

Went to the pub after the occasion and had a laugh.

    Always in his shadow CSC

DD in Amsterdam 1-3, probably a few on here at games way before my time but for me the best Celtic game I attended was the Joe Miller 1-0

in 1989…. probably didn’t realise it at the time how important it was and even after the Centenary season which was so special in so many ways the Scottish cup final in 89 was different… Celtic have gave us many great days… in fact more so now than ever

    Marvellous.

A thoughtful , considered informed opinion on politics and political trends.

Can`t see it catching on. :-)

    Surprise surprise ,however .

    I disagree.

When the Labour rump in UK. votes for Brexit ……Never the traditional stance of the left……………….traditional party politics have been set aside.

When the traditional democrats of the rust belt vote for Trump , you know that

bigger things are at play than traditional party politics.

The European movements you mention , I feel , conform to the trend which I feel is happening.

More nationalist than right or left.

    People want their country back.

And people want their country to make it`s own decision in its own interests.

Thanks , probably in part , to the inability of British Courts to deport Muslim hate preachers because of dictats from Brussels.

And then there`s Merlel and her ” Imagine there`s no countries ” plan

    I can see their point.

Merkel`s open invitation had one devastating effect.

It enhanced the already existing xenophobia.

A totally predictable angry lurch to the right.

The taps aff that screw tap. And the ginger`s overflowing.

Or , to put all that another way , Corbyn is unelectable.

Basically because he moves against the flow of current trends .

As for his two major sidekicks………..a Marxist and an incompetent .

    Sorry , mate. No chance.

    Well actually , thank God.
