Boyata transformation is beyond belief

840

When we signed Dedryck Boyata, while simultaneously losing loanee Jason Denayer, I heard that bullish comment from Celtic Park “We made Denayer into a regular Belgian international and we’ll do the same for Boyata.”

Teenage Jason Denayer was part of a record-breaking Celtic central defence.  Fast and skilful, there was little chance parent club Manchester City would allow him to extend his stay in Scotland.  Dedryck was older, had played less football, and City allowed him to leave for £1.5m.  The claim that we could make him into a Belgium regular seemed fanciful.

Belgium are the top team in the Fifa rankings.  Getting anywhere near this squad is an achievement, but Dedryck is now a regular fixture.  When Jason Denayer made a late entrance in the game against Iceland last night, it was captain, Vincent Kompany he replaced, not the Celtic central defender.

Dedryck has only been at Celtic three years and the early months of his time here were memorable for an own goal against Malmo and a very poor performance away to Molde.  His transformation is beyond belief.

Hi there, you may be interested to learn that the SFA are doing the rounds of SFA development schools, talking to School of Football pupils about, don’t laugh, sectarianism.

Yes, the corrupt organisation which allowed, unchallenged, a member club to operate an anti-Catholic, sectarian policy is now lecturing children about it.

    They just don’t do irony.

When they are finished Fred West will begin his tour of schools teaching parenting skills, if Jeffrey Archer can’t manage the one on plagiarism.

McLeish getting the job is a kick in the teeth not only to every Scottish football supporter but also every taxpayer.

    Unemployable serial failure.

The jobs for the boys culture at the Strong Rangers Association is holding the game back big time and it will stay that way until it is disbanded and replaced with something fit for purpose and for the 21st century. Forget “reform” – it has gone way beyond that.

  4. Needs to sign a new deal or be sold in January. Massively improved but we can’t afford to let him leave for nothing. If he’s going to go then he needs to go and we need a replacement in during the upcoming window or else our chances in the CL qualifiers are greatly damaged.

I picked Italy in LMS, but am getting a bit worried. Want to make sure Italy wins, and bungs seem to be the norm there, so Can you get down to the game and bribe someone for me please. Thanks. Just let me know what I owe you.

To replace Gordon Strachan with McLeish, fill the Scotland squad with Ayebroke’s aces, inspired by an U18 coach, with the Scottish referees onside and hoping against hope that the blue hoards will flock to support the National team, against all evidence to the contrary. Supporting Scotland is one thing, supporting the current cabal of flunkies and referees at Hampden is something else.

Speaking of disastrous decision-makers I notice that Johnston Press, owners of the Scotsman (16,000 sales daily) and 200 other titles in both Scotland and England has announced that it will be going into Administration with debts of £220 million, and a Pension Fund shortfalll. Sympathies to all whose jobs on line, but proof positive that when you are not part of the zeitgeist you are nowhere, the rest of the SMSM to follow.

  11. 11 of the 18 remaining Standers, including me, breathe sighs of relief as Serbia score 2 goals in 2 minutes to lead 2-0 after 35 minutes.

And only 5 more hours till the more important game kicks off ;-)

  12. MIKE IN TORONTO –

Don’t think anybody cares enough to do any bung action . Large numbers of schoolies have been given tickets in an attempt to increase the crowd and make some noise .

Italy have improved with Mancini in charge( that wouldn’t be hard after the farce that was Ventura – Chievo inexplicably gave him a job -he lasted 4 games ) but they still look like a collection of individuals wishing they were playing for their clubs .. All are good players , all look like fish out of water wearing the National shirt. 3 of the Portugal team play in Serie A . Chiellini gets his 100th cap tonight

  14. Manchester City are facing allegations of a breach of Premier League and FIFA rules by paying six-figure sums to the families of youth players including Mathias Bossaerts. City also face a one-year transfer ban from FIFA over the signing of eight foreign U18 players.

Stirling Council run it and fair play to them, anyway we were out there today to walk a dog, on way home near Cowie Colliery we managed to see 7 Curlews, so that made my day. Brilliant bird.

I have a feeling that Thomas Joseph Delaney of Borussia Dortmund may be related to me.

My maternal grandfather was Thomas Joseph Delaney from Sligo. Did not know the Danish internationalist’s middle name. Think I will need to investigate further. Thank you.
