Boycott call as Celtic fans money promised to re-establish Rangers

1670

The Gang of 10 SPL club who will meet next week will decide whether or not we have a morally sound and ethically administered league. The meeting wasn’t announced three hours before overtures were being made on terms a Rangers Newco would be prepared to agree to in order to win their backing.

Effectively, the other 10 will asked to hold their noses, put all moral judgement aside and tell Rangers Newco the terms they need to agree to in order to get back into the SPL, retain their history and limit consequences of the alleged improper registration of players. Some of those hoping to front a Rangers Newco are prepared to do whatever is necessary to get back on a level playing field with those who have spent the last 20 years playing honest football and paying their taxes.

The question to be considered is not just what is ethically right in sport; it’s more personal than that. This is about what is going to happen to your money, the football club that defines who you are, and your relationship with the game for the rest of your life.

The schemers and cheats are not beaten and they are not going to give up. There is no honour, no ‘dignity’, no moral compass that understands there are consequences for decades of rampant abuse. All there is, is a sense of entitlement that I struggle to comprehend.

That sense of entitlement is about to promise bucket loads of your cash to someone else in order to restore the old certainties. This time, they are not even going to use the tax man’s money, they are going to use YOUR money. The money you put into the game will be distributed and used to flush the smaller clubs, who will in turn restore Rangers to their position of ascendency.

This is not sport, it’s a disgusting abuse of Celtic fans. You are not even being asked, you are being expected to open your wallets and pay whatever price it takes to put Rangers back on top.

I have never called for a boycott of a newspaper, never mind a football game, but this is not football anymore. We cannot be party to this. It is not a passing-issue either. Rules are being made with consequences that could last 100 years.

You have suffered from decades of malpractice and have earned the right to go to Ibrox in two weeks to enjoy the reflection of honest endeavour. After this, our next away game will be at Kilmarnock. If the Gang of 10 attempt an insurrection using your money, join me in a picket outside Celtic Park when these tickets are available for sale, and outside the away gates at Rugby Park on game day, to explain to Celtic fans the consequences of supporting the clubs who would use your money to establish a new Rangers.

Unite and bring the full power of Celtic against those who would rather do a deal with the devil than establish an honest, even, playing field.

If the Gang of 10 give Rangers Newco their way, using your money, we cannot go back to an away game, not this season, not ever. We must demand this discipline from each other and insist the club refuse all away tickets.

Having paid our taxes, registered footballers in an honest manner and brought international acclaim to Scottish football, the Celtic Movement is being corrupted by the lowest common denominator.

Our magnificent sporting institution is being destroyed. For the love of all that is decent and meritocratic in the game, we need help from England, Europe or wherever to move out of Scottish football.

I am just about finished with the entire, corrupt, shambles that masquerades as a sport.

Issue six of CQN Magazine….. has sold out! None left, sorry.

  1. So we tell the other ten they can either throw sporting integrity out the window for whatever money that a cash strapped Newco will bring them, or apply the rules and continue to benefit from our fans’ money.

  2. Do the support have the stomach for an away bhoycott. There will always be someone wanting to go to rhe game?? Do the club have the power to refuse all away tickets? Will the killies hearts etc not just sell them themselves to celtic supporters??

  3. jock steins celtic on

anyway know how Real Madrid & Barcelona engineered it that they got their own TV deals rather it a league wide one ?

I was saying this exact thing to a mate today, however I was also saying how Peter Lawwell must seriously think about not fulfilling any fixtures next season if a hun newco are allowed to waltz back into the league with minimal punishment.

I truly believe that Celtic as a club, as a movement of people should point blank refuse to play the game anymore and also cry foul to any and all governing bodies who will listen, be it Uefa or not. It cannot be allowed to pass.

  5. tomtheleedstim on

Paul67 – a fine rallying call and one which most of us would agree to but can I ask what are the club intending to do?

They obviously have a duty to shareholders first and foremost but they are in a powerful position to back this call.

  6. Watch the MSM go on this one. Celtic ruining Scottish football!

We should boycott though, we really should.

  7. As I said before,Bhoycott all away games, organise friendly games for the members of the squad not with the first team, charge £10/5,Irish teams would jump at the chance to play at Celtic Park.

By doing this we would make up any loss of revenue if new rules re finance come into place.Stuff them all.BHOYCOTT.

  8. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

Kilmarnock should be an easy choice. Grand Master Michael Johnston refusal to give Celtic a greater allocation of tickets for a title party compared with how they reacted to Rangers title party is very recent and fresh in the mind.

I would not mind a boycott of Kilmarnock , Dunfermline, Hearts and Motherwell for ever and ever amen.

    Hail Hail

  9. Paul, yesterday you were of the opinion that the ’10’ were bunching up to put Rangers in their place, today you’re saying that they are likely throwing them a lifeline (at our expense). Can you share with us publicly what changed your mind? (And fast forward, fingers crossed – how about a boycott of the SFA Cup Final, if itn happens?)

  10. We should boycott if what Paul is indicating comes to pass. However I just can’t see Petrie or Vlad backing any immediate re-entry for newco.

  11. BlantyreKev - Parcel=> on

    Stunning Paul.

With you every single step of the way, however long it takes.

  12. Paul – great writing again. Said before on here, the others either side with the good ghuys that have been paying their taxes etc or they feel the full force of the Celtic support. How apt that may be at Rugby Park!!

  13. Paul,

for practically the 1st time in years of blogging your anger is tangible in your words.

I am not 100% convinced that we will be shafted by the 10 – but let’s see.

At worst I’d be happy to see a redistribution of the TV money, it’s a pittance anyway. However – going back to the days of shared matchday income is an absolute no no.

90% of the 10 almost sent Scottish football into the grubber with their ridiculous decision to veto the Sky deal – that’s why the 11-1 rule exists. If that changes we’d be governed by self interested amatuers, frightening.

Still not convinced though, based on feedback from one of the 10 ;-)

Agree. Great article but really what else do they expect us to do? I’m in.HH.

Know this is not a knee jerk reaction but what is the clubs view.

The Huns. Have used ever trick in the book to beat us and have failed

Totally agree that the slate should not be wiped to allow them continue

    Afresh .

The end of the spl and sfa if they do not implement the rules fairly to all clubs,That being us.

No matter who we play at Celtic park I will pay.

As for the rule breaker’s BHOYCOTT it will be.

Dermot Desmond must have an exit route in place?

    Jam67

  16. Although I very rarely attend an away game in the SPL, mainly due being to being based in England, I would offer my support to a bhoycott by cancelling my ESPN subscription. The stuttering ‘links’ would be be of some comfort.

  17. BlantyreKev - Parcel=> on

BBC and STV Q&A’s just released both shoe horning in NewCo simplistically and running with SPL Board decision entirely.

  18. twists n turns on

Celtic FC now need to make the same call to their supporters as Paul 67 has. I would be happy to watch Celtic reserves home games for the rest of my life rather than see a 1p piece go to any other team in the SPL.

Dermot, if you have any influence in England, or wider Europe, now is the time to exercise it.

    This IS the end game.

  19. Paul67, your finest yet, spread the word Bhoys. Speak to your pals at Hibs, Aberdeen etc.

This nonsense must be stopped in it’s tracks.

The question is of course will UEFA step in and punish the SFA.

What a last 4 years this has been, KKK eat your heart out, you have nothing to compare to this.

  20. I look forward to seeing our clubs response to this, if it comes to the fore. Is this the reason todays press conference was cancelled??

You’ve obviously came into some info , as the blog has spun 180 degrees from yesterday’s article on the 10.

Do you know if this is a fait accompli , or is the point of next week’s meeting that the deal has still to be sold to some of the 10 ?

If this is the case , do you know which clubs are driving this ….my guess is Kilmarnock , Motherwell , St Johnstone, St Mirren, Dunfermline and Inverness…….with perhaps Aberdeen , Dundee Utd , Hibs and Hearts still to be convinced.

I’ll definitely join you on any picket line at away grounds.

  22. Headtheball on 9 March, 2012 at 12:34

Let the MSM say whatever they like.

A competition without rules is anarchy or it’s the WWE.

What are they going to do re-write the rulebook to ensure that no incarnation of Rangers can ever be relegated from the top flight and all purely for money!!!

    F*cking money!

We need to get the supporters of these clubs to start lobying their boards of directors quick as they are being lined up as the Rangers hareem. Bend over you next, bend over you next repeat till fade.

  23. I hate to say it, if these chairman (w*nkers), if given a vote, would take the money off the hoards of hell rather than us.

I honestly think they will be happier to have them in the league than us. I hope Mr Desmond has been making a few calls.

    Let them die Celtic.

  24. Well done for highlighting this issue, Paul.

Why, oh, why is it Celtic – we who have suffered most by R*ngers and their decades of cheating – who look set to pay the heaviest price again to restore the cheats and satisfy their provincial sympathisers?

Can we petition the club to expand our own media output? If the Sky deal, or the distribution of the monies from that deal, must be renegotiated then can we not secede and retain our own media rights? Unlike ANY other club, Celtic actually are bigger than the league they play in.

Sadly when the chips are down Scotland shows its true colours and the fella who has been saying Scotland is them and they are Scotland has been proven right.

There may very well be one or two sides who will be against this but my money would be on Hibs and Aberdeen at best. Dundee United’s annoyance appears to be temporary.

Let every side in Scotland feel our wrath. Celtic’s exclusion was either a power grab or a carve up or both. I wanted to believe that they’d get round the table for the good of the game but it is apparently only for the good of one club and that club to all intents and purposes is Rangers.

They might get a bigger slice of the SKY contract and a few other concessions from Rangers but as far as they are concerned it will be business as usual.

I like to look for the good in people and I hoped that all clubs would get together and punish Rangers for their decades of cheating, now I don’t even care about the game in Scotland because it is a rigged table. I love Celtic and I want Celtic to play in Scotland on a level playing field – this looks like a crave up of epic proportions and Celtic’s owners/custodians must act in the next week to make it clear to the gang of 10 what Celtic are prepared to do about this.
