Boycott call as Celtic fans money promised to re-establish Rangers

1670

The Gang of 10 SPL club who will meet next week will decide whether or not we have a morally sound and ethically administered league. The meeting wasn’t announced three hours before overtures were being made on terms a Rangers Newco would be prepared to agree to in order to win their backing.

Effectively, the other 10 will asked to hold their noses, put all moral judgement aside and tell Rangers Newco the terms they need to agree to in order to get back into the SPL, retain their history and limit consequences of the alleged improper registration of players. Some of those hoping to front a Rangers Newco are prepared to do whatever is necessary to get back on a level playing field with those who have spent the last 20 years playing honest football and paying their taxes.

The question to be considered is not just what is ethically right in sport; it’s more personal than that. This is about what is going to happen to your money, the football club that defines who you are, and your relationship with the game for the rest of your life.

The schemers and cheats are not beaten and they are not going to give up. There is no honour, no ‘dignity’, no moral compass that understands there are consequences for decades of rampant abuse. All there is, is a sense of entitlement that I struggle to comprehend.

That sense of entitlement is about to promise bucket loads of your cash to someone else in order to restore the old certainties. This time, they are not even going to use the tax man’s money, they are going to use YOUR money. The money you put into the game will be distributed and used to flush the smaller clubs, who will in turn restore Rangers to their position of ascendency.

This is not sport, it’s a disgusting abuse of Celtic fans. You are not even being asked, you are being expected to open your wallets and pay whatever price it takes to put Rangers back on top.

I have never called for a boycott of a newspaper, never mind a football game, but this is not football anymore. We cannot be party to this. It is not a passing-issue either. Rules are being made with consequences that could last 100 years.

You have suffered from decades of malpractice and have earned the right to go to Ibrox in two weeks to enjoy the reflection of honest endeavour. After this, our next away game will be at Kilmarnock. If the Gang of 10 attempt an insurrection using your money, join me in a picket outside Celtic Park when these tickets are available for sale, and outside the away gates at Rugby Park on game day, to explain to Celtic fans the consequences of supporting the clubs who would use your money to establish a new Rangers.

Unite and bring the full power of Celtic against those who would rather do a deal with the devil than establish an honest, even, playing field.

If the Gang of 10 give Rangers Newco their way, using your money, we cannot go back to an away game, not this season, not ever. We must demand this discipline from each other and insist the club refuse all away tickets.

Having paid our taxes, registered footballers in an honest manner and brought international acclaim to Scottish football, the Celtic Movement is being corrupted by the lowest common denominator.

Our magnificent sporting institution is being destroyed. For the love of all that is decent and meritocratic in the game, we need help from England, Europe or wherever to move out of Scottish football.

I am just about finished with the entire, corrupt, shambles that masquerades as a sport.

Before considering any kind of bhoycott we have to be sure that we have at least offered an alternative path to all other parties. Or are we just going to state that it is us or them, and if you choose them you will face a bhoycott. Surely it is preferable to argue, that the fate of Rangers FC illustrates that the SPL is no longer fit for purpose, and that football in Scotland needs to be reorganised. We need to advocate a new, bigger top division, eleven of the current members of the SPL plus six or seven of the SFL, who could be invited to make up a new first division. No teams in administration will be admitted and any recently liquidated clubs/companies, would not be eligible for membership. Their former supporters may choose to form a football team at a lower level, amateur or junior, but like Third Lanark before they will no longer exist as a professional club. Or something along those lines.

Celtic FC need to offer a positive alternative, and until we have done that we cannot bhoycott anybody.

Surely the other SPL clubs won’t be so stupid and short-sighted as to usher a Rangers Reunited straight back into the SPL?

Attendances at most SPL clubs have been falling for years. Showing everyone that the game is a blatant fix with no sporting integrity will only accelerate that trend. The TV money the league receives is a pittance anyway, other clubs getting a larger slice of that small pie will be scant consolation for driving away their own fans.

Imagine an SPL where clubs like Motherwell, Aberdeen, Dundee United, Hearts, Hibs, and Kilmarnock can realistically plan to challenge for second place and European qualification, and maybe even challenge Celtic for the title. That’s the real prize on offer here for the Other Ten.

That would be a far better prospect for Scottish football than a shady backroom deal to resurrect a club that has cheated the rest of Scottish football for years. (thumbsup)

  5. Cancel your sky now.

a 1,000 calls to sky to cancel sky sports will ensure the phones will be ringing in everyone of the 10 offices of the clubs before they even have their meeting.

    Do it now.

    Cancel your sky sports!

If money talks, as Neil Diamond sings, then we’re the isolated team in the league.

The clubs wont be turkeys voting for Christmas; if huns NewCo themselves back into SPL with promise of redistribution of cash they will each earn more money than if Huns go bust and Sky deal renegotiated.

The huns staying alive is worth more to them than dead.

However, if at least one – from Aberdeen, to Hibs to Hearts – want fairness in place of cheating, and want an equal chance to finish 2nd and in Champo League, then they’ll vote against it.

    Their choice is:

Vote Rangers back and accept you’ll never finish higher than 3rd.

Dump Rangers and compete for the league championship.

    BromleyBhoy and others:

For the benefit of those who might be slightly confused by what is happening here, I will put it into simple English.

Celtic would be broadly supportive of a fairer and more even-handed distribution of television income in the event Rangers collapsed and were no longer in the league. Celtic would see that as a chance to redraw the boundaries of the Scottish game on a more equitable level, as it would be partly in our interest to have a stronger group of teams beneath us … for competitiveness sake, as well as in the overall interests of the game as a whole.

The SPL 10 are meeting without inviting Celtic. Paul either has good reason to suspect, or knows for a fact, that the meeting will actually be to decide what terms the SPL 10 offer to Rangers in exchange for their vote on reform.

Right now reform would require either Celtic or Rangers to vote with the other 10 teams. It is Celtic and Rangers 2 votes and the need for an 11-1 majority before reforms can be carried out, that keeps the present setup.

The SPL 10 are going to put together a package of changes, a list of things they want. Those things will include more money from the TV deal, in other words taking money away from both Rangers and ourselves. Under normal circumstances, Rangers would never agree to that … but the SPL is going to use their financial crisis and the need for a NewCo to force them into it.

They will vote with the SPL 10, changes will be made which will directly affect us, and in exchange for their vote, Rangers NewCo, complete with the old club’s history, and debt free, will be back in the league for next season.

    At our expense.

That is the brutal truth of it. They could have approached us, and worked this out with us on board. They excluded us, and this is why; Rangers NewCo was the deal-breaker as far as we were concerned.

So they’re putting together a deal for Rangers instead. They had a choice between our two teams, and this is the one they have made.

  8. The ten will be discussing a whole range of scenarios and trying to work out which one may be best for them.

They need to be warned that any scenario involving bringing a Newco in will have consequences.

And I’m sure they will also be informed that any scenario that involves a no vote could have financial benefits for them.

Dunfermline couldn’t pay their players because they never got the ticket money from ONE visit of rangers.

Do you think they could sit it out when they are closing or demolishing stands to cut down on costs.

  14. I share Paul’s sentiments around us protesting against the outragous actions of Scottish Football in general – and if there is one thing that Celtic fans are good at it is organising and making a point.

Some of you are saying we now shouldnt celebrate the demise of rangers – I completely disagree – sing about ice cream and jelly very loudly. It is hurting them and no matter what is to come they will never be the same again

  15. Rather than simply refuse tickets, which the hosts will presumably just then sell to their own fans, can we take our official allocation and then return them unsold on the day of the game? That way the parasites, erm, I mean the hosts, will be out of pocket.

New Rangers cannot be allowed to enter the league pyramid at any point other than the bottom, applying alongside the likes of Forres Mechanics and Cove (honest) Rangers for entry.

In fact, perhaps NewCo could take over the Fort William team and attempt to turn them into a club for whom second last in the Highland League isn’t regarded as their best season in a decade!

For anyone proffering any sympathy towards Rangers for their current plight, or suggesting that they should receive any assistance in re-building their “institution”, please recognise that they have broken rules and regulations all over the place and lied to, cheated and stolen from the rest of Scottish football for the best part of 20 years. Supporters of Celtic, Hearts, Hibs, Motherwell, Dundee Utd, Dundee, St Mirren, St Johnstone, Falkirk, Livinston, Raith Rovers, Ayr Utd and Queen of the South have all been cheated out of trophies, prize money and possibly European qualification by Rangers. And if you support any Scottish league team other than Rangers, the chances are that your team has incurred some consequential loss at some point in the last 20 years because of Rangers’ application of a comletely different set of rules to those observed by everyone else.

Thay MUST be held absolutely accountable and fully punished for their misdeeds.

The word Boycott comes from Captain Boycott – an English officer who evicted an Irish tenant and was subsequently ‘boycotted’. We’re good at boycotts. We’ve done them before.

  18. Could we not have a lottery instead and send five or ten fans. It would cost more for stewards than they would make off the 10 tickets. One ticket for each SPL team that voted for newco. OOOOOOOH. Sorry there. Icecream headache!

  25. 67Heaven ... I am Neil Lennon..!!..Truth and Justice will always prevail on

As some of you ghuys may recall, I have been ranting on for 3 years for a bhoycott of all away games, ever since I realised, 3 years ago, that we were being shafted, to ‘hand’ them the CL money for their very survival.

I actually started bhoycotting all away games, including Hampden, circa 15 years ago…..after a game at ipox where I witnessed the full force of their hatred…

In appreciating that our fans want to support our team, we need to take a stand for the very future of our Club……this is ‘bigger’ than football…..this is about allowing rankers to ‘walk all over’ us, and the other teams seem to be in collusion, FOR PURELY FINANCIAL (and perhaps other ‘dark and nasty’) REASONS.

    Will Truth and Justice prevail….???

But let’s wait and see how this all develops……there is the possibility that the other teams feel as aggrieved as we do, and will do the right thing, whilst squeezing us for a bigger piece of the cake in a league without the monumental ‘cheats’……..

There is also the possibility that the administrators are trying everything to attract a buyer, or trying to struggle on until the BTC is decided…….the MSM are already trying to entice buyers, by stating that HMRC will do a deal….LOL

We are in the good position of knowing that our fans will react quickly and effectively, as soon as any of our suspicions materialise……let’s show them our intent by not taking any tickets for ipox…

  26. A bhoycott wont work. Celtic fans will still go in numbers to watch the team. I bet there will be Celtic fans buying food and drink at the game on the 25th.

  27. Splitting the gate money, complex situation.

How do you deal with hospitality / free pie seats?

Hertz / Sheep also need to realise that if they drive our crowds to below 36K they lose out in the deal –

They will lose more to the Wee 8 than they gain from the Big 2.

Also there are so many ways to beat the system that it would be a short lived bonanza for the Ten.
