Boys in blue turn to Ibrox

661

Its seven months since the Worthington Group, who represent the interests of Craig Whyte, reported Charles Green and Imran Ahmed to the Serious Fraud Office over the ownership of Sevco 5088 Ltd.

Sevco 5088 Ltd bought and paid for irrevocable rights to buy the assets, including Ibrox Stadium and Murray Park, of Rangers Football Club PLC, in liquidation.  Those rights were subsequently assumed by a different company, Sevco Scotland Ltd, now called Rangers Football Club Ltd, who are a football club in the third tier of Scottish football.

The question is, how did Sevco Scotland acquire those rights?

When this question was raised back in April, it was reported that Rangers International PLC instructed Pinsent Masons to investigate the matter, but instead, Pinsents reported on whether Craig Whyte was involved in Sevco Scotland Ltd, a company he claimed no connection with.

The BBC, who broke the story yesterday evening, suggest Police Scotland are investigating if Craig Whyte is still involved with “Rangers”.  Although this would break the terms of Newco Rangers entry into Scottish football, it is not, of course, a crime, nor something the police would concern themselves with.

More importantly, the BBC suggest police want to speak to Charles Green, former chief executive of Rangers International PLC, about a document submitted to Companies House.  The dispute over the ownership of Sevco 5088 Ltd has played out through documents submitted to Companies House, not all of which can be legitimate.

Perhaps the biggest challenge of all to the Newco is that these matters have a history of taking a long time to resolve.  Time is not a commodity a company without bank borrowing or positive cashflow can afford.

If only any of us saw this coming………

I had a look at the various media outlets this morning and can’t for the life of me find a campaign to bring two youngsters wrongly imprisoned abroad home.

These two youngsters crime appears to be that they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. They have apparently been beaten by a foreign poilce force and left to their own devices in a foreign prison with little support or finance from the UK goverment. The lack of publicity to these young boys plight is a disgrace.

If you rewind back a few months there was a campaign of unbelievable proportions to get two other youngsters home from a foreign prison.

The difference between the youngsters is quite simple.

2 of these people are football supporters who were caught up in a rammy and beaten by the local police while trying to enjoy themselves on a footbal trip to watch their team.

The other two are convicted drug smugglers who although had ample opportunities to alert the authorities through numerous airports did not.

Why would the media feel that these girls deserve maximum publicity whilst the two football supporters do not?

I am totally confused and would like someone to explain to me why the media have all but ignored the plight of two young football supporters who we know seem to be the victims in what can only be viewed as police brutality whilst travelling abroad to see their team.

This could have been anyone’s son, brother, nephew, friend, etc. The colour of his scarf is not important. This should be getting maxmimun exposure in the press.

I would hope that these young lads are getting the support and publicity they need to highlight their situation as the media are completely ignoring them. Let’s hope justice is done and they are home with their families soon.

Probably right, although the two references I found were from last year and early this year, so it may be in the process of becoming a Police Scotland unit.

To be honest if I was a sub editor I’d be calling it the Police Scotland ECU rather than the mouthful I found. Ultimately the understanding is the same. A unit focused on corporate crimes is looking into their dealings.

It is difficult to keep track of these things but the “the” you are thinking of I believe belongs to “the rangers international football club plc” which is the newly formed (last december share issue) parent company of rangers football club limited (formerly sevco scotland limited).

There may be some errors in the above but that’s how I understand things.

Instead of signing a Chinese player, PL should be looking at another South Korean and of course a TV contract for all Celtic games to be broadcast live in South Korea as part of the deal. All games should be moved to 10:00am kick-off to allow Koreans to tune in at 8:00pm.

In response to your post last night.

The point I was making about the £6m signings from England is that the market down there has moved on. We couldn’t afford a player from that market now. A £6m player 15 years ago would now cost in excess of £15m and would cost £60k+ a week in wages.

Celtic can go out and sign one player for £5m+ from a foreign market but we would have to pay wages relevant to that transfer fee. That would probably mean giving such a player £40k+ a week. If that player is then not perfomring at the level of the rest of the players the other players would rightly want more money. We have seen recently with Anthony Stokes that players if performing will want more money or be on more of a par with top earners when their deal is expiring. This pushes our wage costs through the roof. It’s a risky business and I can see why Celtic have avoided this so far. I think if you have a star player akin to a Larsson other players can understand why their wages are double what they are earning but a top earner who turns out to be average is very risky for a football club. I think Birmingham City are still paying a player £60k a week in the Championship and a former target for Celtic is being paid £40k a week in league 1 in England. That is what we are up against unfortunately.

Our strategy is providing us with a level of success at the moment. The question around big money signings may be more relevant when that success dries up. It’s a debate however that will never go away. We all want success today! Football fans are never the most patient of customers.
