BRENDAN AND CELTIC ON £198,031 UEFA TIGHTROPE

0

BRENDAN RODGERS caught the attention of the eagle-eyed UEFA observers in Celtic’s last away Champions League encounter in Italy.

The Hoops boss received a ‘slap on the wrist’ in the scoreless stalemate against Atalanta in Bergamo in October when it was deemed the Irishman was at fault in delaying the restart on two occasions.

Rodgers will lead the team into action again on matchday six against Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia in the 5.45pm kick-off this evening with the Parkhead club looking for a win that will hoist them onto 11 points in their bid to reach the play-off stages.

The Scottish champions have two games to play next month – at home to Switzerland’s Young Boys and away to Aston Villa – in their quest to gatecrash the lucrative next stages of the elite competition.

POINT WELL MADE…Kasper Schmeichel and the Celtic players acknowledge the travelling support after the goalless draw against Atalanta in Bergamo in October.

European football’s rulers are scrutinising Celtic – and every other club – at this level and the Hoops’ total of fines for misconduct stands at 240,000 euros which currently converts to £198,031.

The club were hit with a £9,904 (12,000 euros) punishment for the blocking of public passageways in the 3-1 win over RB Leipzig at Parkhead and £12,379 (15,000 euros) for a young fan running onto the pitch towards Kasper Schmeichel in the same game.

UEFA are evidently taking a hardline stance with clubs this season over discipline issues with the use of pyro being top of their list.

Celtic have already been hit with a suspended sentence for selling tickets to away fans for the use of the ‘dangerous’ objects.
