BRENDAN RODGERS’ love affair with the Scottish Cup kicked off against Albion Rovers in front of 8,319 fans at Cliftonhill on the Sunday afternoon of January 22 2017.
Scott Sinclair scored the first goal in the great silverware adventure with Moussa Dembele and Stuart Armstrong adding the others as Celtic coasted into the next round.
The team in Coatbridge in Rodgers’ trophy lift-off was: Gordon; Gamboa, Lustig, Boyata, Tierney (sub: McGregor 62); Brown, Bitton; Forrest (sub: Roberts 75), Armstrong, Sinclair; Dembele.
NOT BAD FOR STARTERS…Scott Brown congratulates Scott Sinclair after the winger’s opening goal in the 3-0 Scottish Cup win over Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill in January 2017.
The 52-year-old Irishman is now preparing his squad for tomorrow afternoon’s visit of Hibs as he looks to extend his impeccable sequence in the national competition to TWENTY successive victories.
Rodgers’ 100 per cent run includes three Hampden showpiece victories – Aberdeen (2-1, 2017), Motherwell (2-0, 2018) and Rangers (1-0, 2024) – as he eyes a return for the grand finale on May 24.
After seeing off Kilmarnock 2-1 and Raith Rovers 5-0 in the earlier rounds, Celtic now turn their attention to the Easter Road side at a sell-out occasion in the east end of Glasgow.
