CELTIC will have to make a renewed bid for striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo after his Slovakian side Dunajska Streda knocked back the original offer.

Boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed he wants TWO new frontmen in this month’s transfer window and is keen on the 21-year-old Ivory Coast international, who has scored 18 goals in 23 appearances for his club.

Their sporting director, Jan Van Daele, admitted: “We confirm we have received a bid from Celtic, but refused the bid as it did not match our expectations.

“We are in direct contact with Celtic club officials and we are open to negotiate with Celtic.”

Odsonne Edouard is the Hoops’ only recognised attack leader with Leigh Griffiths on the sidelines with due to personal issues.

Teenager Mikey Johnson was the main targetman for an hour in the 1-0 loss at Ibrox on Saturday before the French ace came on as a substitute.

The champions were, of course, left short up front when Moussa Dembele left the club in a £19.8million switch to Lyon just hours before the end of the August transfer window.

The Hoops are also hopeful of agreeing a loan deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s teenage striker Timothy Weah.
