Brendan Rodgers appointed Celtic manager

1136

Brendan Rodgers today became the 18th manager in Celtic’s history. Rodgers, 43, managed Liverpool for three years until October, after guiding Swansea to the English (and Welsh) Premier League in 2011. He previously managed Reading and Watford.

His appointment is unquestionably the most popular since the arrival of fellow Irishman, Martin O’Neill, 16 years ago. Known for his belief in playing attacking, possession-based football, he will bring a force of personality to the club and to Scottish football.

Rodgers occupied the top position on Celtic’s wanted list at the start of the month, but the desire to sign him up was tempered by the belief that attracting a manager of such a profile to Scotland would be difficult. My understanding is that as soon as talks got underway in earnest, it was clear neither party would let the opportunity slip away.

I’m delighted at the appointment. The club already feels reinvigorated.

Welcome to Celtic, Brendan. Let’s get on with the job.

  9. CULTSBHOY@10:34 – Why would any majority shareholder sack a CEO, who has insured that the/his company is in good financial health, and able to make a momentous game-changing decision, free from any debt and/or encumbrance?

  10. Congratulations Celtic on a brilliant inspring and professionally manage appointment. Onwards and upwards. Hail! Hail!

  11. Does Brendan Rodgers appointment mean that Celtic won’t now have to do anything to contradict the same club narrative?

    It rather looks like it.

Still, no matter, the Old Firm gravy train is now back on the rails, and that’s the most important thing.

And it a few seasons that oh so brief interregnum will be all but forgotten.

BR coming in shouldn’t distract Celtic from what has to be done to clean up the game in Scotland.

The huns were always coming back, there’s no need for us to rubber-stamp their or anyone elses BS…

  13. Right ! Tin Hat on and defo don’t want to rain on the parade so here goes !!

Brenda wasn’t my first choice I completely overlooked him because of the financial package it would entail.

I happen to like him and think he’s a good manager but he did spend £300 million without success. But has incredible respect amoungst All the players he has managed.

I am delighted this Board have showed huge ambition for once however I think it’s more down to Dermot Desmond opening his ears and listening to the support and looking at the empty seats which were bought and paid for last season.

He has played a blinder in bootin the Zombie hoards right in the Haw Maws the night before the final so fair play. Nothing would give me more pleasure than the club NOW going public and backing the Res 12 campaign demanding Truth and Justice are brought back to the game.

I wish Brendan Rodgers every success funny how that can change eh lol but my inbox of friendly abuse from friends and family is enough for one mans lifetime.

No2 son has just sent me this wee one which stopped me in my tracks

The more season books that are sold the less likely it is that Celtic will do anything to challenge the mismanagement and corruption in the Scottish game. Why would they? What’s to be gained? It’s one thing if you think revenue will be affected, but if the season books are selling, well, why bother?

  16. the glorious balance sheet on

I think Brendan Rodgers will be a great appointment as Celtic manager.

And credit where it’s due, the appointment was made fairly quickly. So hopefully Brendan can get us ready for the challenges of next season.

Itll be an interesting close season in terms of incoming and outgoing players that’s for sure.

Meantime it’s great to see an air of optimism about the club.

On a tangent – Mats Nilloc, are you the latest newco of Alfie Noakes/ Thomson twin/ Fred Quimby/ Edmund dantes etc? Something familiar about your posts…..

  17. ERNIE LYNCH

An uptake in season tickets is Celtic side of the street Ernie and we have to sweep that, that’s our job if it’s as you were at the SFA then we’ll know that was the game plan all along…

  19. TOFFEETIM@11:09 – Agree, the board, CEO and major shareholder have shown huge ambition. Brendan has shown and expressed huge desire (here is where I put MY tin hat on), would he have came up here if Sevco were destined to be at least three years out of contention in the lower leagues?

I don’t know the answer to that….but four games per season against them would not have been a negative consideration to him, I think quite the opposite. He is a Celtic fan, he will want to beat them.

  20. Still on a high (not one of DDs mind you)

Anyone that can should try to make it to. Celtic pk on Monday because as sure as pish is pish the succulent lambers will be portraying the numbers there as evidence of support/ opposition to BRs appointment. Much like Sky’s sham poll yesterday evensong.
