Brendan Rodgers appointed Celtic manager

Brendan Rodgers today became the 18th manager in Celtic’s history. Rodgers, 43, managed Liverpool for three years until October, after guiding Swansea to the English (and Welsh) Premier League in 2011. He previously managed Reading and Watford.

His appointment is unquestionably the most popular since the arrival of fellow Irishman, Martin O’Neill, 16 years ago. Known for his belief in playing attacking, possession-based football, he will bring a force of personality to the club and to Scottish football.

Rodgers occupied the top position on Celtic’s wanted list at the start of the month, but the desire to sign him up was tempered by the belief that attracting a manager of such a profile to Scotland would be difficult. My understanding is that as soon as talks got underway in earnest, it was clear neither party would let the opportunity slip away.

I’m delighted at the appointment. The club already feels reinvigorated.

Welcome to Celtic, Brendan. Let’s get on with the job.

    Fixed that for you, Paul.

    Welcome to the Brodge.

Presser Monday – watch out for the gurning bellicose permatan Keech Jackson in the pack, Brendan; he’s a Hun wank of the poorest Gazza-worshipping order.

A nice start to the weekend.

Ya dancer, 1st choice, will need to find something else to moan about.

Just gave it the bit from Soccer am when they find out the Soccerette is not married.

    Welcome Brendan.

I think Lenny would make a great assistant, remember, one of the reasons Strachan made it 3 in a row was down to Lennys influence in the dressing room.

  7. Fáilte mhór roimh Breandán MacRuairí,, an bainisteoir nua ag Celtic . Ar aghaidh agus os a chionn!

A big welcome to Brendan Rodgers, the new manager of Celtic. Onwards and upwards

Brilliant just brilliant. My Birthday tomorrow as well.

I can just about feel their inaudible squeal reverberating below my feet with that announcement.

Thought Jackson was still banned for previious offences. If not any smart ass stuff from him and bouncers should eject him unceremoniously. IMO

popped out for an hour and six pages to read, just like old times, has something happened??? Couldn’t be more delighted, a fantastic appointment, Hail Hail Brendan

I wouldn’t worry about an apostrophe tonight, as the night goes on and the celebrations continue feck knows what my posts and some others will read like :))

Not be long until your bhoy is up and posting, he’ll be over the moon like us all. HH

    Expect nothing from Hibs tomorrow.

That is precisely why our own semi performance was criminal.

Me I will have my head down until the storm surrounding the fairytale ending to the long journey blows itself out. If it ever does.

Celtic will have no domestic challenge. The Scottish hacks can dream on.

Welcome to Paradise Brendan – Welcome to the greatest football club on earth.

  19. Great news about our new Manager who is also a Celtic supporter. Surely he will share our hopes for the seasons ahead.

Must thank Paul 67 for bringing the good news to us ahead of the MSM getting their hands on it. Since I have been critical of the Board, I must now declare that I am delighted that they have reached out and brought the best to Celtic Park.

Welcome, Brendan. We know that each time the bhoys are playing that they will not only have a Manager on the touchline but also a supporter. Well done also to all the supporters who voiced dissent over these last months and who now are reward by the Board paying attention to us at last.

  22. I’ve got to admit the fact that Brendan was in Majorca threw me and I thought “here we go again” but a big well done to DD getting his mhan and a big well done to Celtic for releasing the news tonight ahead of the cup final. BIg Jock used to take delight in taking the hun off the pages of the papers. It’s up to you to do the same on Sunday Hibees.

DD has a good record of appointing managers, ie, MON and WGS who both had good European runs. Sometimes despite having a dog you need to bark yourself.

  23. A wee piece of Norn Ireland advice for Brendan when faced with our media rat pack.

‘If you have anything to say, for God’s sake say nothing’.

    Give them the MON treatment.

Talk them to death and tell them nothing.

  24. JonnyRambo67 on

Turned off Clyde after hearing the absolute drivel their spouting shoehorning a nobody like Warburton into every conversation.

Turning off CQN after reading the absolute drivel spouted by Neg Anon. Tell us the figures that have delayed their season ticket renewal? You live in a delusional fantasy world with a ridiculously inflated sense of your own self importance. Nobody cares whether you’ll be back or not. Celtic Park is a better place without you.

Congrats To Lawwell, DD and anyone else working behind the scenes to bring Brendan Rodgers to paradise. Brilliant news.

  25. Kev J Neganon Your opinions took one helluva beating today. lol Only joking lads :) por cierto

Did “THEY” submit audited accounts timeously to obtain a licence to play in European competitions? I understand from PMcG that it was only an unaudited scaled down financial spreadsheet that was sent to SFA.

In any event I hope that Hibs win and sorts the conundrum.

Surely the SFA will not risk bringing the game in Scotland into further disrepute, now would it?? ( sarcasm) HH

  31. Well I was going to have a quiet night in but me and the boy are walking up tae the “toon” for a wee celebration swally, Weißbier-a-gogo.

He did ask me if I knew anything about this striker from Portland Timbers but I had to admit to being stumped.

    Have a great weekend everybody.
