Brendan Rodgers appointed Celtic manager

1136

Brendan Rodgers today became the 18th manager in Celtic’s history. Rodgers, 43, managed Liverpool for three years until October, after guiding Swansea to the English (and Welsh) Premier League in 2011. He previously managed Reading and Watford.

His appointment is unquestionably the most popular since the arrival of fellow Irishman, Martin O’Neill, 16 years ago. Known for his belief in playing attacking, possession-based football, he will bring a force of personality to the club and to Scottish football.

Rodgers occupied the top position on Celtic’s wanted list at the start of the month, but the desire to sign him up was tempered by the belief that attracting a manager of such a profile to Scotland would be difficult. My understanding is that as soon as talks got underway in earnest, it was clear neither party would let the opportunity slip away.

I’m delighted at the appointment. The club already feels reinvigorated.

Welcome to Celtic, Brendan. Let’s get on with the job.

  3. Bit of criticism tonight about BFDJ. At least he is an out and out unapologetic Hun.

We could do with some our own being as loyal to Celtic.

  4. Bada………..

B Ponsonby Esq………as good as he might be in wrangling meeja an’ message management on behalf of our great Club…in a poacher cum gamekeeper styleee…………..no matter how good he is……..if there’s even wan wee bitter sleekit hun wi’ his bent paw on the “press send button” with regards to the next article or broadcast piece….at the meeja owner…his good work is all for nought.

    It’s about bias……………… malevolent bias………not PR.

The Huns have been skelped tonight make no mistake about that, well played Celtic….

Would rather we had skelped them on the park.

  7. Quonno…..agreed.

It just doesn’t give you a lengthy meeja career in scodland.

  8. Great appointment. Dermot please replace the ineffective PR team. The Head Honcho is a Hertz supporter, think this could be the problem. Our team and supporters have been rag dolled for too long. Welcome BR.

Guy being interviewed outside CP:” Seen a poll earlier that said the fans are split 50-50,I don’t know any Celtic fan who isn’t delighted.” Totally mate but there’s a lot of gutted Huns with internet access.

  13. Well done to all concerned in this appointment, which is one which I really honestly didn’t think we would be able to complete!

This is a huge statement of intent on behalf of the board and DD, so we’ll done to them!

Ideally hope that this is the first step in reuniting and re-energising the club and support!

It is surely beyond belief that BR would come and not be guaranteed sufficient funds to put a team on the park that could qualify for the CL!

I also hope that the club come out strongly in support of the Res12 guys and the revelations of the TJN and start the process of cleaning up the game in Scotland!

When we are all united, then there is very little that we cannot achieve!

Welcome Brendan, I hope that your time with us is successful on and off the park!

Coming from the occupied six, no- one needs to tell you what you are going to be up against!

    Let’s do great things together!

The past is the past Quonno, nothing we can do about that, we’ve taken a huge step appointing BR, too many on here willing to jump on Celtic no matter what they do…

The hun games will take care of themselves next season…

Welcome to Brendan Rodgers to Celtic … hopefully no relation to Twists ;-)

Well done the club with regards to finally matching our ambition. To dream etc.

Also well done to the club on controlling the media agenda.

I hope we are practical and if we do spend money we do wisely that we assess the squad properly and don`t splash the cash (or spin it that way) as a smokescreen to what really needs to be done.

Now just match our hopes and morality off the Park with regards governance and watch the entire Celtic family come together. That opportunity was spurned after Seville. MON trophy-less season. Time to set the record straight on and off the park.

Don´t **** it up this time.

  16. I’ll probably get shot down in flames for this, Hugh Keevins is giving Celtic massive plaudits for bringing in Brendan.

I don’t usually listen to Clyde, but my feck, it’s funny listening to bfdj squealing.

  17. Here’s hoping this feel good factor prevails. Long overdue.

The MSM all have to bring in the deid team. Anything to ruin a Celtic good news day.

Thank you to all involved in bringing a man rated by the support. Hope he builds on Ronnie’s foundations.

  18. Buck…welcome to Paradise!

Quonno at 19:11 – not sure I’d want anyone being “loyal” to Celtic mate ;)

  19. Delighted we have brought Brendy, Baoard / DD and all who played their part deserve praise. £60 just spent on Celtic shop .

Re SMSM I believe that the vast majority. ( a hunch – no empirical evidence) of Celtic supporters do not want a fawning, sycophantic media as is its wont with the resurrected entity but one which is fair and objective.

Reporters who behave like the clown at the press conference announcing the New Balance team should, IMO, have been ruled out of order and subsequently banned. Generally I am not in favour of blanket bans but things have reached a pass that action must be taken.

It’s odds on that at BR’s inaugural press conference questions will be asked about Warbs leading to questions about OF. answer should be “Next question?” HH
