BRENDAN RODGERS: EURO MISSION 61

0

BRENDAN RODGERS will tonight lead his players into into his SIXTY-FIRST European encounter during his two stints as Celtic boss.

There was massive disappointment last time out as the Hoops blew a £40million windfall after two dismal scoreless displays against Kairat Almaty before being dumped out of the Champions League 3-2 on penalty-kicks.

Rodgers’ men are looking for their first European goal against Red Star Belgrade in the opening Europa League encounter in the Serbian capital this evening after firing blanks in three and a half hours against the Kazakhstan side.

HEADSCRATCHER…Brendan Rodgers before Celtic’s Champions League exit in Kazakhstan.

Rodgers has guided the Hoops to 21 wins and 13 draws while losing 26 of his previous 60 outings in charge.

Remarkably, the 52-year-old team chief kicked off his career as Celtic manager with a 1-0 loss to Gibraltar minnows Lincoln Red Imps on July 12 2016. Only James Forrest remains at the club of the 14 players utilised that day.

Thankfully, a week later the Hoops rectified the situation with first-half strikes from Mikael Lustig, Leigh Griffiths and Patrick Roberts on their way to a 3-0 win.
