Brendan with a point to prove

196

Chris Sutton was a deadly serious football player but he never takes himself too seriously as a punter.  This is easy for you and I to understand, when we hear him throw a controversial view around, but if you are Brendan Rodgers and you hear a former fans favourite suggest he was “going through the motions” as Celtic manager, it’s going to sting.

The manager looks to have used this as fuel as he told the assembled media, “From a personal perspective, I am surprised in a way where I heard somebody saying ‘Brendan Rodgers was going through the motions’ earlier in the season.”  Adding, he “had been treated like a novice” since arriving back at Celtic last summer.

You need your manager to keep his emotions under wraps while there is still a job to be done, but I am pleased to see Brendan show some emotion on this subject.  I have never liked the badge kisser, they are all here for professional reasons and Brendan is no different.

He has proven a point in recent week and can do so again on 25 May.  Beating regular losers is only part of the story, though.  If he really wants to teach his critics a lesson, the opportunity will arrive in the third week of September.

From memory our Manager got some advice and a heavy dose of criticism from the writer of Celtic Quick News

Not many know the details of what Brendan was sold/told/promised

But all of us can guess that after the Jan Window none of it was delivered

Personally I still think there is some bridge building to be done between Brendan and Peter Lawwell

Brendan has done a great job winning the league – the cup is icing on the cake

Our club has much to reconcile in the summer

As long as Brendan is in charge we will prosper

  3. I think Liam Scales has scored well in supporters polls because of his energy and commitment to the cause. He wears his heart on his sleeve and gives 100% every time. He has had a good season.

The problem we have is that he is not at the level needed to take us forward in Europe. The role he plays is such a key role in the modern game. We need someone who can win aerial duals, tackle, keep the ball only as long as needed to distribute accurately, and score the occasional goal from a set play. He does some of this well at times, but not always consistently. Teams have sussed that our weak spot is the high ball to the back post. Neither Scales nor Taylor can deal with this.

We need a new partner for CCV that can do the things mentioned above, is over 6ft tall, and has a good left foot.

You hope we don’t have to endure another season like this for a while.

Celtic are I. With a chance of winning a league and cup double after losing one of our best managers ever last summer.

I respect that you seem to not go to many games and judging by your comments seem ignorant of the fact that winning the league any season is a great achievement. To be in with a chance of a double is pretty special. Despite the stellar past decade.

    Entitled or what ?

  8. Does Anthony Ralston ever let us down when called upon. ?

Imo, a great asset to have in our drawer

You again having a go at a Celtic fan for hoping the board back the manager , something tens of thousands of us agree with . There must be a reason you dive in to continually defend the board , god its getting boring .

  12. I noticed Dundee were 18-1 to win tonight. I thought at the time they were incredibly generous odds. Hopefully Big Jimmy put some money on them.
