Icelandic champions, you say? Not much to worry about there, you would hope. But Stjarnan knocked Lech Poznan out of Europe last season, and Poznan went on to take the Polish league from our old pals Legia Warsaw, who were a pretty decent team last season.
Stjarnan were not nearly as good as Lech Poznan, nor were they as good as Motherwell, who they also put out of Europe a year ago, but get your close-season wrong (the Polish Ekstraklasa doesn’t break until June), and you’re out, no matter if it’s Stjarnan or Maribor on the match ticket.
Let me put it another way, I wouldn’t fancy St Johnstone against Stjarnan right now, and Saints won at Celtic Park as recently as March. A red card in the wrong place (need I remind you of Efe, big Dan?) and you’re in trouble.
I’ve not seen the new livery on Celtic Park, the photos of which look superb, so I’ll be along early tonight to drink in the summer atmosphere. There’s also the anticipation of looking forward to seeing a few new faces in competitive action for Celtic for the first time.
The most important performance of tonight will be from Dedryck Boyata. More than any other area of the team, defence is all about partnerships, so how quickly Dedryck fills the Jason Denayer gap will go a long way to determining whether Celtic qualify for the Champions League group stage this season.
Remember to swap out your old season ticket from your wallet with your NEW ticket!
Bring it on, Celtic.

A nice, good news story.

Surprised at some of the negative comments regarding Charlie Mulgrew partnering Boyata. It remains to be seen wether Boyata is the real deal, after all he has played very little first team football in the last few years,I would prefer Charlie to the bombscare that is Effe Ambrose.

The legendary Tourmalet .
Did the climb when I was 18..Pleased to have beat my old man who was probably puffed out from telling me too many tales of Coppi, Bartoli and Merckx..Did it again ( much less comfortably ) when I was 40. Tried it again when I was 55 , had to get off and walk..
Watching these guys fly up it today – supermen !

Getting CTV live games overseas depends more importantly on using an overseas bank account.
I advise you use your Swiss bank account

Obviously there is something more to this, it’s not all that cut and dried, Celtic don’t operate like tha.

Local business gain extra income when Celtic games are on, let them pay for it. Having said that I’d be interested to know if other solvent clubs pay for this cleanup.
The zombies don’t even pay charity money they collected on behalf of the charity, so no need to include them in the article (smiley)

Clicked the Evening Times link above / read it/ mentally filed it and was then curious enough to click the News link – up came a sad/ shameful story re the plight of a Syrian family experiencing the delights of Miles Better City .A hundred thousand welcomes and all that.
Trying hard not to have a beer in the sun……,, waiting for a call.

aw sh*t; no a clique!!
Jinkys bar Albufeira for me tonight, unless some random place in Old Town is showing game. C’mon the hoops. Hx2
Looking forward to the game tonight and seeing the stadium.
I know I should not be but I am slightly nervous about the game but when it comes to the qualifiers I always am, they are fraught with danger for us.
Feeling a bit uneasy about our centre back pairing with VvD suspended. However, I think they will come to park the bus and frustrate us. Hopefully we will have our shooting boots on, take our chances and avoid a sucker punch goal. Its goals we need Griffiths has to start for me.
Broonie was a big miss last year, I am hoping he is injury and suspension free for the qualifying campaign.

Not a clique. TheCelt45 got one, too.
That upgrades us to a Gang….:)
Just watched the Broonie interview
They’ve got two tall strikers and two fast wingers, we should be able to hammer four players, so no excuses Broonie money’s going on 10-0

Bobby Murdoch, sorry for my late reply to your earlier post about being twins.
We are probably of a similar age and would have watched some our greats from the early to mid seventies.
We have had many worse seasons than 1977/78 but it is my least favourite season of watching us.
You are right about our misfortune with injuries that season particularly losing Alfie Conn & Pat Stanton after the season opener against Dundee Utd then Danny about two months later with that mysterious ankle injury. Also, Kenny leaving meant we lost our four most influential players from the previous marvelous season.
Tonight we should be up for it and I hope we are two nil up after the first hour then add to our tally.
No daft bookings either tonight please. Most of our players should be savvy enough to tread a bit warily with UEFA appointed refs.

I’m in Ottawa. Know the MacAloons from your part of Texas.
Tend to agree with the posters who cite new man Boyota where our focus of attention will be this evening and how he will perform . Will Charlie or Mikel slot in beside him? Either man should be ok against this opposition.
Bloody Norah
Since I posted at 16.21, I’ve had to rush wee Hugo (Shug the Dug) back to the Vets
4 of the stitches in his neck have burst
To collect him again at 18.00, glad the vet is only 1/2 mile up the road
I’ve got the Celtic to see the night, and looking to leave Bannockburn at 6.15

Sure do! Good friends.
In fact, he may be reading this!! He is a long time lurker!
Won’t be watching or listening to the game tonight. My grandfather died this morning grand old age of 93, not a Tim, but the hardest, thrawn old bugger there ever was. A black isler, and as honest as they come. The last of his family, but I’m proud I have his blood, and I’ll never forget you.
Cel45 & Weeron… gang sounds better and if you do manage to get to Paradise the seats are in 412, above the GB,…. should be quiet, eh!!
All the best snecker through this difficult time.
