Bring the glory home from Perth

393

Willie Maley’s 1917 62-game unbeaten run in domestic football (or just football, as it was back then) was matched against Kilmarnock, but as Rangers fans found out in 1998, you should never assume that just because you can match a record, you can beat it.

Tomorrow Celtic’s shot at history goes on the line at McDiarmid Park against St Johnstone, where we last lost a domestic game, back in May 2016. St Johnstone have already relieved Celtic of a couple of points this season, and will have no fears of what they face in tomorrow’s early kick off.

For Brendan Rodgers, the challenge will be to peak energy levels after an emotionally and physically draining evening against Bayern Munich on Tuesday. His players are Celtic, not Robotic, and he will know there is a very real chance of a reversal, if we are anything less than 100% prepared.

History is yours for the taking, Celtic.  Bring the glory home from Perth.

From a small village on the north-east coast of Ireland to the treble-winning manager of Celtic, Brendan Rodgers’ football journey has been a remarkable one of dedication, hard work, a desire to always keep improving and a determination to succeed at the highest level of the sport … and throughout his life there has always been a love of his team … Celtic Football Club.

In his own words, Brendan Rodgers tells his story – from a promising young footballer growing up in Carnlough and dreaming of playing for Celtic one day through to his professional career – as a player, a coach and now as one of football’s top managers. And Celtic supporters will also enjoy an insight into a remarkable season – from the first competitive game in Gibraltar through to the thrilling Scottish Cup final, with plenty of highlights in between, including the manager’s first trophy triumph and some unforgettable Glasgow derbies.

Willie Miller – or the Cat as he was known.

Numerous people of a certain vintage including my old man and John Cairney swear that Miller was the best keeper they had ever seen.

For a number of years, he was irreplaceable in the Celtic goal with good goalkeepers such as Rolando Ugolini barely being able to get out of the reserves.

Ugolini played only 5 times for the Celtic first team before moving to Middlesborough where he became an absolute legend.

    He couldn’t displace Miller though.

  4. Melbourne Mick – i have 3 uncles in OZ and they were just about heading over so it was good to get their bro home. Thx for your thoughts and kind wishes. Uncle Kev heading over to Donegal in April 18 and hope to meet up – with old man intact.

  5. There is something poetic that tomorrow we will hopefully break our record of unbeaten games at the stadium where we suffered our last domestic defeat 62 games ago on 11th May 2016. Hh

Isn’t there some quote about you never lend a book, it’s a gift

But you are right, ebooks options should be a thing on here, and would make a lot more money.

Magic, mate. One of these years I’ll schedule it for your fiftieth birthday(!)

  12. Don’t these people proof read what goes into their report and accounts?

the Ladbrokes SPFL Premiership, as well as defeats in the semi-fnals of both domestic cup competitions. This culminated with the resignation of the football management team in March, and the recruitment of a new team which we are confdent will lead to much improved displays for the current season.

He will know Molly Delaney. Everyone in Saint Ninians know our family. Shafton Road tell him.

  14. PR67

Exactly. He looked like my mate Mick looked after an all nighter up the Kilpatrick Hills, neckin mushys.

Legend Jonny Depp appears on mainstream tv tripping oot his nut on mushys. :)

  15. Catman

A minutes silence is poignant and appropriate for some things.

Not for a highjack though. Your idea has real merit and if we did it tomorrow we could do it every year and take the poppy bribe off the table.

  16. Have always been of the opinion that the minutes silence should always be observed regardless of differences of opinion, but honestly, this poppy fascism needs reeled in.

The poppy should be a symbol honouring all lives lost, civilian, and military during wartime.

That essence has been lost and now is just is some patriotic pro war on terrorism badge of honour.

This has moved on from respecting people’s dads and grandads.

I really do hope everyone does observe the silence tomorrow, but there is a growing justification for the minority who see this for the mind manipulation it is.
