Bring the glory home from Perth

393

Willie Maley’s 1917 62-game unbeaten run in domestic football (or just football, as it was back then) was matched against Kilmarnock, but as Rangers fans found out in 1998, you should never assume that just because you can match a record, you can beat it.

Tomorrow Celtic’s shot at history goes on the line at McDiarmid Park against St Johnstone, where we last lost a domestic game, back in May 2016. St Johnstone have already relieved Celtic of a couple of points this season, and will have no fears of what they face in tomorrow’s early kick off.

For Brendan Rodgers, the challenge will be to peak energy levels after an emotionally and physically draining evening against Bayern Munich on Tuesday. His players are Celtic, not Robotic, and he will know there is a very real chance of a reversal, if we are anything less than 100% prepared.

History is yours for the taking, Celtic.  Bring the glory home from Perth.

  1. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

    Good Morning All.

I have had a look at the Sevco accounts and they don’t make for edifying reading if you are a shareholder.

    Annual loss of around £7M

Sums due to shareholders/directors circa £16M

    and so on.

However, it is not so much the figures but the underlying story which jumps out at you.

They paid £3m to Mike Ashley to go away. Now, they probably won’t have to pay that sum next year so it is a one-off, but if they have to the Magic Hat, Pedro and various others will one-off payments really be any less?

Also, at the time, the Ashley golden handshake was spun as a good deal and costing virtually nothing, with promises of increased revenues in the future from kit sales. Hmm don’t see it.

Also, if John James is correct and Pedro brought in Qatari cash to buy players, is this a debt to be repaid in which case true borrowings are around £7m -£8m more than stated in these accounts — though a word of warning on that later.

Also, I am told the directors have no more money to put in, yet the current wage bill is huge, way beyond their means and can’t be sustained. So how are:

    1. Current contracts to be funded?

    2. Pedro and Magic Hat settlements to be funded?

    3. Urgent repairs to be funded.

    4. A new manager to be funded?

    5. New players to be funded?

    6. Any progressive new commercial contracts to be funded?

If, as has been suggested elsewhere, Admin for Sevco has seriously been considered, will this be a first insolvency event for a new club or a second insolvency event for the same club?

If we are talking about the same club, then do the SFA and/or the SPFL have provision for one club having two insolvency events running at the same time because the Liquidation of the old Co is still ongoing?

Then there is the takeover panel ruling. The conclusion of that hearing and its consequences may just render future accounts for this company as an irrelevance and of course waiting in the wings is the irrepressible Craig Whyte who maintains he has a floating charge over all assets.

Jings this is a mess which is why the legal bills for the Old Co are so horrific – Lawyers love mess!

But, if it is true that someone in Qatar has actually lent them millions, then what happens in the event of that loan defaulting?

Could the Qatari’s just grab the club itself (however club is defined this week) with the result that The Rangers have Arab writing on their strips, King & Co are shown the door, an insolvency event sees a true purging of the existing liabilities, and ownership is passed to a foreign body with serious money?

Have Rangers, de facto, already been sold to someone else in all but name?

  2. Good morning CQN from a breezy and damp East Devon.

Let’s pump the hammer throwers from Perth today Celtic.

Morning Tims on this record breaking day ( fingers crossed).

None of this holding out for a draw cwap, lets do it the Celtic way in style.

Cant make it today so its the T.V. for me, to all the fans going enjoy it it’s been over 100 yrs since it was done.

Do us proud and do it loud.

  4. Todays game live on Sky. It’ll be interesting to see if they turn down the microphones when the whistle blows for the minutes political statement. They’re quick enough to turn the crowd noise down when their production team think they’re listening to something which might offend those looking to be offended.

I think we all know how they’ll react today.

I’d like to see our fans do a ‘you’ll never walk alone” style raising of scarves, silently of course, interspersed with a liberal sprinkling of flags of any nation they care to display. Who could be offended by that ?

  5. Re BBC.

In their preview of the St J game, they say that Celtic ` have gone two games without a win`. They omit that one of those games was against Bayern . Do the all suffer from ulcers at that institution?

    Cheerio for now. Golf.

happy birthdays to brth and bt.

  7. its the record but, for once its picking out the right things. thems need money in november. where is it coming from. if you did business with them, would you not look at those accounts and decline the next contract given a previous company/club insolvency event, seriously.

Rangers losses leave club relying on interest-free loans from shareholders

Losses at the Ibrox club have more than doubled to £6.7 million, the latest accounts show.

    Gavin McCafferty

Rangers made a £6.7million net loss last season and are relying on chairman Dave King securing the release of a similar amount of money to allay fears over their ability to continue as a going concern.

The losses – revealed in the Rangers International Football Club plc annual accounts – are double that of the previous campaign, when the club were in the Ladbrokes Championship.

Season ticket sales increased and non-ticket revenues were up by 55 per cent but operating expenses increased by almost £8million to £32.9million.

The accounts – for the year ending June 30, 2017 – revealed Rangers had outstanding interest-free loans totalling £15.9million from investors. Recent loans include money received from King’s New Oasis Asset Limited group, which is the biggest shareholder in the club.

The report, which was released after 8pm on Friday night, added: “At the time of preparation, the forecasts identified that the group would require a minimum of £4.0m additional funding by the end of season 2017/18 in order to meet its liabilities as they fall due. The first tranche of funding is required in November 2017.

“Further funding amounting to £3.2m is forecast to be required during the 2018/19 season.

“However, the final amount is dependent on future football performance and European football participation amongst other factors. The board have discussed the club’s forecast cash shortfall and have reached an agreement with New Oasis Asset Limited whereby they will provide additional loan facilities as necessary to meet the above requirements.

“Further to this, New Oasis Asset Limited and certain investors have agreed to extend their existing loan facilities to July 2019.

“The board is satisfied that those parties will continue to provide financial support to the group and have satisfied themselves as to the validity of the undertakings.

“The board acknowledge that had these assurances not been secured then a material uncertainty would exist which may cast doubt over the groups’ ability to continue as a going concern and therefore its ability to realise its assets and discharge its liabilities in the normal course of business.

“With the appropriate assurances obtained and the continued support of the investors, the board believe that such uncertainty has been removed.”

King’s lawyer was last month quoted as describing the South Africa-based businessman as “penniless” in the Court of Session, claiming that he did not have control over the finances of New Oasis.

King is awaiting a judgement after the Takeover Panel instigated action claiming that he acted in concert with other shareholders to assume control in March 2016. A judge could rule that King has to lodge offers for the rest of the club’s shares.

As I type, hun bloggers and the media Muppets are typing their mock outrage at the goings on in Perth this coming afternoon, all waiting for the first cough to hit send.

We will be hung for a cough, a couple of guys arriving late in fine voice, or for fellow Celtic fans shouting down those that knew f’all about it.

You know it, I know it and every morally offended tax dodging hun knows it.

  13. BRTH

The 3m to pay off SD was for unsold stock I believe. They still have a retail deal with them. My guess is that the Qatari stuff is nonsense. If true why would existing directors continue to provide loan facilities. New Oasis have committed to at least £7.2m of funding over the next two years. If a company controlled by King is providing that level of funding then something more sinister is at play. I would guess some form of laundering.

  18. We have just received an award for the best fans, now let’s enhance it.

The best fans are tolerant and respectful of others opinions , even if they don’t necessarily agree with them.

The best fans will not make some fans and their club / team feel embarrassed .

The best fans will always put the reputation of the club at the forefront of their thinking.

On a slightly different topic : If some of the best fans want to wear a poppy, then that should be an individual choice. They should not be castigated by ” uber” fans in the same way that there should be no compulsion to ever wear a Poppy. There is no debate it’s that simple.

Many have died ( including relatives and many Celtic players) to give us this choice. Democracy is never easy and we should be vigilant at attempts to undermine it from whatever angle .

    Anyway COYBIG. History awaits.

  19. Peter Johnstone made 211 appearances for Celtic during which time he won 4 league championships and 3 Scottish cups. He enlisted in 1916 and during training in England he travelled overnight back to Glasgow to help his team mates defeat Rangers in a Glasgow cup tie. Peter died at the Battle of Arras in France in May 1917 aged 29. Hh

Before you reach the Broxden roundabout on the A9, there is a long straight on the motorway just before you hit Perth. Halfway down that straight there is a junction on the left hand side and a few cottages. Come off the A9 there and that road will take you to the A85. It takes about 5mins to the A85, you can’t go any further, when you reach the A85 turn right. It’s a couple of miles to the stadium from there, you can’t miss it.
