Broomloan brilliance, hopeless imposter

389

Just catching up on the post-Ibrox analysis after a busy weekend. A few observations:

Celtic opened very well but our passing out of defence fell apart after 10 minutes and didn’t get back on track until Scott Sinclair decided he was taking control at halftime. If I wanted to make an excuse, I’d say we were rusty due to the formation only just returning to normal for the first time this season, but this may be over-generous.

Scott demonstrated why he was Player of the Year last season. He has what it takes to swing big games. The game can be divided into two parts: times when Sinclair had the ball inside the Newco box, and all other times. You could sense the terror in blue at the former.

On the Newco penalty claim: I’m not sure. Jozo pulled out of the challenge, which I suspect is why the referee didn’t give it, but I would have claimed if it was the other way around.

It was clear to everyone in the Broomloan Stand that Leigh Griffith was claiming for a penalty in the first half, although none of us knew why. Young Beckenbauer in the Newco defence extended his arms and made his body big as the ball dropped onto his hand.

The rules are clear on this one, allow your arms to leave the confines of your body and you’ve transgressed if the ball strikes a hand or arm. Sky Television viewers were then transported to an alternate universe, where they were told, “Leigh Griffiths is claiming for a corner kick”. There is an intellectual pain experienced when you are part of a group treated to ‘expert’ analysis like this. I was embarrassed as a viewer.

While Scott Sinclair was the custard in your doughnut, the second goal was a product of crisp passing down the right. Callum McGregor was worthy of an honourable mention here. He has the craft to compliment Patrick Roberts’ level of astonishing-ness.

There will be quite a number of people who are walking around Lennoxtown today full of the joys because of the save Craig Gordon made with the score at 0-1. This was not a normal reaction save, it was the result of a planned and practiced manner in which to close-down an opponent who is about to head the ball. Look again at how Craig moves his body.

It was a big moment and speaks of the technical preparation of the goalkeepers.

Scott Brown remains is in the form of his life. He waltzed around Ibrox like he owned the place. Although with the alleged condition of the structure, that honour may be an onerous one.

The knives are out for Brother Pedro, who spent millions but has not noticeably improved his team. This is a little unfair. Newco’s problems run deeper than Pedro, and let’s face it, they would be in a far worse situation if he had not banned green boots.

This guy knows what he’s doing, no way is he an hopeless imposter, no way at all. And, if they ever score an important goal, Pedro’s instructions to congregate to celebration will also prove invaluable.

Let’s not get too carried away with ourselves. Ibrox was the aperitif, as they say in Europe. The main course is in Brussels on Wednesday, and that will prove to be a far greater challenge.

    (For football reasons :-)

  2. Malorbhoy do not forget to go and visit the original statue of Our yy ofAberdeen if you get the chance. It is in the church of Our Lady of Finisterre not far from the Grande Place.

  3. Gooood evening CQN

So I hear FtSFA had a holiday today, so it will be tomorrow Reagan, Bryson and Dickson are removed, and Sevco Trumpet is charged for confronting both Broonie and John Kennedy ? Witnessed by Kevin Clancy may I add ?

Sandman, 9th May 1986 is a very special date for me, 1st daughter born :-)

TET, absolutely true, at our home game last Sat, on 3 occasions the ref stepped out his 10 steps, requesting the wall move back, and on each occasion the ref stepped forward 1 step and put his line down in front of wall ( which hadn’t come back to where ref had asked) both my mhate and I discussed on nothing this. – fact

    Hail Hail

You’re showing your age when talking about a shy, weans on here will not know what we are talking about :0)

  5. We had our two long throw experts in Ambrose and Matthews . Both could hurl the ball into the penalty box. Have think Deila didn’t approve of this effective weapon because they never did it after he arrived. No logic in stopping them.

Personally,I have nothing against any player now earning their crust at Ibrox.I dont class them as Rangers,I believe they died in 2012.I dont believe it is the same beating this present side,as it was beating the old deceased Rangers.

What has not changed one bit,is the majority of scum who support the new team. The same ones that supported the old team.Nothing gives me greater pleasure than rubbing their noses in it.Dominating them, mocking them, destroying bit by bit, their air of superiority.

It might not be the same team, but to them it is,so every time we gub them is still like the same old dagger to their black hearts.

You can pontificate on the subject as much as you like, neither I,or the vast majority of Celtic fans will ever lose that feeling of seeing that shower in misery.

  7. The purchase of a £49 old firm match ticket….

is the rubber stamping of, the same club lie.

Crowd funding Boohoo “statements” in the hunday herald about, the same club lie, and then purchasing a, £49 old firm match ticket which, rubber stamps the same club lie, is a xenophobic exercise in hunlike glaikitness.

Nae wonder the establishment sweep yeez under the carpet, with ease.

The Cellic support huzny seen a rebel since the JUNGLE was flattened, and the establishment are well aware of that.

    Dear, dear.

Oh and, Tom Boyd makes Celtic TV sound like the Celtic View.

    Alan Sneddon CSC

    The Green Man’s rebel flag,….

flies high on thee oul JUNLE roof, God bless.

    …..oot.

  8. when was the last time you saw a shy played up the line to the winger or forward, beyond the defence, cos you cant be offside from a shy.

    it works use it.

the faster you take it, the less they can defend it.

ffs , its not rocket salad

  9. Oh Doc

How many caps did the Lions get ?

Treated with Disdain back then by the Masonic cabal FtSFA

The Lisbon Lions do Not need recognised in any Hall of Fame

They will forever be Revered by all Celtic fans – that mattered more to them

    So In. nutshell

FtSFA, and shove your hall of fame, very few Celtic fans will ever visit it

  10. Another thing

Celtic should have a statue out the front of the Lions with Big Jock on their shoulders, aka the big photo I had on my wall

We should recognise them all in a bronze statue taking centre piece of our Celtic walk way

  11. i'vehadtochangemyname on

it’ll take a long time to catch up with celtic – that’s another load of crappola – one good transfer window with a lot of money spent could get a decent spine in – of course nobody wants to say that they don’t have any money.

  12. KevJ

To be factually correct tickets in Saturday were £50

Am sure very Celtic fan in the BroomIan road got their monies worth

  13. CowieBhoy, another embarrassment for me:-), I agree with you, thumbs up copyright Philvisreturns, all of the Lions, statues along the Celtic Way. Fab idea. Celtic honouring our greatest team.

At least the club have done this in the past, a permanent celebration of the triumph.

  14. prestonpans bhoys on

    Cowiebhoy,

Someone pointed out that a meaningless Scotland game just before the Lisbon game had a one off disproportionate amount of Our bhoys in it, no surprise there ! Wonder why …….

    ——-

Naw they wurnae, they were £49. Fact :))

  16. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

St Stivs , we played Dunfermline in a league cup game at East End Park in 1982 or 1983.

We won 6 1 I think with Jim McInally making one of his few first team appearances for us.

In that game we did take a quick shy which resulted in Charlie Nicholas scoring on the half volley on the apex of the pealty box.

The bell went out for a shy with either Danny McGrain or Davie Provan taking it quickly. Charlie let the ball come over his shoulder, let it bounce then skelped it into the Pars’ net.

  17. The SFA honouring of the Lisbon Lions after 50 years, screams of why now. Is this a sweetner to the Celtic board and fans hoping no further action will be taken with their up to they’re nee’s corruption?

Additionally have the refs been asked to reign in the cheating until the threat of court action passes?

  18. Doc

No offense taken, fwiw I would tell the sfa to ram it as well and I also think a majority of Celtic fans would but it’s not for us to decide, the decision should be made by the surviving lions weather to accept it or not,as stated statues along the Celtic Way would be ideal

  19. Fairhill Bhoy,

a few girls i work with had a night out there,

nothing but good things to say about it,

some seriously nice/strong gins on offer

  20. TheTimReaper

If only £49 then one of the Bhoy’s I know charged his 7 pals £50 a heid, maybe £1 @ heid for picking tickets up

I met them on Saturday morning and they told me £50 a head…. again am sure the Broomloam Road got their £49 worth

  21. WBC- There was a rumour last week that Misser got sent home, he had too much to say for himself again…..noticed how quiet he looked in the dugoot on Saturday….

  22. Tony Rome 10.20pm

Roy Aitken 1989 shy / throw in

Makes it even sweeter the linesman was a Hun….. he said that decision haunted him, maybe that’s why he ended up reffing our games on a Saturday morning :-)

  23. GORDYBHOY64-hi mate,it’s a school night so will have to be good.Is this week or next your away ya lucky git:-))
