FORMER Celtic captain Scott Brown has emerged as a shock name for Fleetwood Town in their search for a new manager.

The 36-year-old Hoops icon, who won TWENTY-TWO honours, including 10 titles, after joining in a £4.4million switch from Hibs in May 2007, has been out of football since departing Aberdeen in February.

Brown was linked with the St Mirren job when Jim Goodwin quit to take over at Pittodrie following the sacking of the 55 times-capped Scotland international midfielder’s long-term friend Stephen Glass.

The inspirational onfield leader left the Glasgow club at the end of his contract last summer for a reunion with his one-time Hibs team-mate at the Dons, but the move backfired when the club were knocked out of the Scottish Cup at Motherwell.

Glass was axed and Brown, who had taken over a player-coach role in the north east, followed shortly afterwards.

The Paisley job went to ex-Motherwell gaffer Stephen Robinson, but Brown is now on the wanted list of League One Fleetwood, according to a report in the Scottish Sun on Sunday.

Simon Grayson departed the role in November last year with ex-Celtic defender Stephen Cairney taking over in an interim capacity.

Gary Caldwell, who was fired along with Shaun Maloney at Hibs last month after only four months at his old club, has also been mentioned as a possibility.
