CELTIC’S multi medal-winning legendary skipper Scott Brown was on the receiving end of Cup shocker last night.
The Hoops icon, who picked up 22 honours including 10 league titles at Parkhead, witnessed his Championship side Ayr United being knocked out of the Challenge Cup by Lowland League outfit East Kilbride in a 3-2 quarter-final upset.
Brown and his players were left reeling as they went two down in only 12 minutes.
WHAT A SMACKER…Scott Brown in a familiar pose as he plants a kiss on the Scottish Cup.
John Robertson netted for the hosts inside a minute and Joao Balde added a quickfire second, but the visitors responded to an anterval talk-in with their gaffer and launched a spirited second-half fightback.
With just half-and-hour to play, Ayr had brought it back to 2-2 with a double strike in five minutes through Jay Henderson and Marco Rus.
It looked as though Brown’s men would go on and complete the job, but they were hit by a late suckerpunch from Cameron Elliot.
The one-time Hoops skipper’s opposite number, Mick Kennedy, is used to creating a sensation or two in knock-out competitions.
He was in charge of Junor club Darvel when they beat mighty Aberdeen 1-0 in the Scottish Cup with a goal from Jordan Kirkpatrick in January 2023.
