CRAIG BELLAMY reckons 37-year-old Steven Gerrard would be the BEST player in Scotland if he came out of retirement.

The Liverpool legend, who appears to be on the brink of becoming the fourth boss at Ibrox in two years, last kicked a ball in November 2016 with LA Galaxy before announcing his retirement.

But barmy Bellamy bizarrely believes Gerrard is still superior to Scott Brown, Callum McGregor, Olivier Ntcham, Kieran Tierney, Tom Rogic, James Forrest, Stuart Armstrong, Moussa Dembele, Scott Sinclair, Leigh Griffiths, Odsonne Edouard and a few others.

The former Welsh international, who had a loan spell at the Hoops in 2005, thinks his old Anfield team-mate would be the most gifted individual in the Premiership.

He said: “He could put his boots on now.

“He’d be the best player up there – and that’s no disrespect to anyone up there, before I get all these messages.

“But he is that good. He still is that good. We saw him play not so long ago – he can still play.”

Not that long ago, a guy called Joey Barton crossed the border and boasted he would be the best player in the country.

Whatever happened to him?
