Brophy delivers the trophy

225

I know, I know, football people hate this kind of chat, but as we walked out of Celtic Park with a spring in our step last night, we were all convinced, the proceeding minutes were critical to the destination of this season’s Premiership trophy.

Celtic were imperious.  Olivier Ntcham orchestrated events, he seems to glide, not run, over the pitch, head up, ready to pirouette (which he does regularly), or fire a pass into whatever space has been opened in front of him.

I know we cannot fit Oli, Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic into the team at the same time, but if I was Neil Lennon, I would be trying to figure out how to fit two of them into the side.  Can one of them learn the No. 6 role and take some pressure off the McGregor-Brown pairing?

After (literally) hundreds of consecutive corner kicks without success, our conversation rate from this set piece is almost as good as it is from the penalty spot.  Christopher Jullien and Jozo Simunovic converted last night, while Jozo struck another effort off the post.  Jullien is as accomplished as anyone in the air since Bobo.  He worries defenders, which in itself, creates opportunity for others.

Greg Taylor lost possession twice in the opening minutes.  This is often an indication a player will hide, instead, Greg threw himself into the challenge.  He was always available and thereafter seldom put a foot wrong.  We need to remember how careers are developed.

With the points secure and Hearts thoroughly looking like the team at the bottom of the table (they really need a keeper, btw), Kilmarnock staged a late, though not unexpected, revival against Newco.  When news arrived of Eamonn Brophy’s 89th minute winner, memories of Ricky Fulton’s Rangers manager’s difficulty pronouncing another Irish name.  “Brophy delivers the trophy” © Callum Brennan.  It was a night of poetry, on and off the field.

  1. Good morning CQN and Happy Admin day from a very calm and surprisingly mild Garngad.

AT – re Charlie, he is some man.

To think we cried for Christie and Elyounoussie to be back from injury and they cannot get in the starting 11 now, just shows how well the entire squad are playing. It is also great to have these players and Sumonovic back as well as young Frimpors and El Hamed what great timing and a good problem to have. Throw in Rogic as well.

At one point we had about 8-9 first team squad players out, did this account for Sevco’s short rise to fame….. I think so.

So we move onto the sheep and another selection headache for Lenny or does he keep a winning team and formation, I think he might. Roll on Sunday.

  3. Happy Administration Day! 💚

Before you think about lining Craigy Boy’s pockets buying The Bear Pit remember he was the @rsehole who cheated Celtic out of at least £10 Mio from not getting into the Champions League that year by cheating on his application for a licence!

Gutted for Kouassi. Wish him a speedy recovery.

Yes terrible luck, but it’d be hilarious if Genk had a stipulation in the loan deal, font size 3, that Hagi can be recalled in the event of a bad injury to Kouassi :)

  7. I’ll put my hands up and say I would happily have seen Ntcham sold and the money used to pay Wanyama’s salary for a couple of years. Ntcham, for all his ability, was not playing as he could. He looked moody/surly and had openly said to the French media he needed to play in a better league. With a surplus of midfield talent in the squad, why hold onto someone who wasn’t happy to be here and often played like it too?

Whatever has happened, whatever has got him smiling and scoring goals, the transformation is something to behold. Is it the new format that has allowed him to shine? Or perhaps some intervention from Neil and the coaching staff? I take my hat off to him for getting back his mojo and again showing us that he really is a superb talent.

  10. Hagi is doing fine just where he is.

Young fella, decent talent but red raw, money being spent by the hun for playing him to achieve the square root of eff all. Will be just one of the targets for the increasing vitriol in the coming weeks from fer Hun….

Feel for poor Kouassi. Always a fan. Hope he recovers and shows his talent.

Well he scored the winner against Hibs, so hes achieved something already, even if he falls slightly short of the £100m valuation!

Respect to the CQNer who recently posted a link to the Independent? article about concentration of cash and power by the elite clubs.

(Apologies – can’t recall who posted).

Have to admit if he’d been sold after that interview he gave I wouldn’t have blinked an eye. However, glad that he has been rejuvenated (by whatever means) as he’s now making an excellent contribution. Long may it continue!

  19. Good morning from Toronto, where it’s…………… Calculate the wind chill using the National Weather Service’s new formula. Multiply the temperature by 0.6215 and then add 35.74. Subtract 35.75 multiplied by the wind speed calculated to the 0.16 power. Finally, add 0.4275 multiplied by temperature, multiplied by wind speed calculated to the 0.16 power.
