Brown and Lustig with international and Champions League conflicts

848

A year ago you and I discussed Scott Brown’s fitness with some concern for the season ahead. Since then the captain has not skipped a beat, his form and availability for selection have been without question.

It is clear he can cope with a Scotland game this weekend, and no doubt finish the season untroubled, but Scotland have an international against England on 10 June, two weeks after the Scottish Cup final, and four weeks before Celtic’s Champions League qualification campaign gets underway.

If Scott is to participate in all games, he will have a week off after the Scottish Cup final before being called into the Scotland squad, then two weeks before Celtic’s preseason training starts. For a player of his age, with his injury profile, this schedule would not allow sufficient recuperation ahead of a new season.

Selfishly, the most important thing to you and I, and to Celtic, is Champions League qualification, more so than the Scottish Cup, or than a season of invincibility, delightful, though both would be. What Brendan Rodgers backroom team need to do is prepare Scott as thoroughly as possible for the middle of July. Planning should start now.

If there’s another player in the Celtic squad who I would also like to ration his football it’s Mikael Lustig. The Sweden international is likely to be involved in both their international squad in June; a World Cup qualifier against France and a derby against Norway.

If Scotland fail to get a positive result against Slovenia on Sunday, Scott might consider it best to retire from the international stage, again. He and Mikael could do with a few weeks on the beach at the end of the season.

Weebobbycollins, magnificent music from you tonight, thank you.

Aretha is one of the few artists whose cover versions can be better than the original .

Her cover of People get ready is top drawer.

Bobby Womack, Otis and Al Green’s covers of A Change is gonna come are terrific. The last twice I had the I had the pleasure of seeing the Reverend Green , he did A Change is gonna come in his set.

Bobby Womack did a change is gonna come at his gig at the concert hall three years ago during Celtic Connections . Bobby was a proper legend. At the back of the stage there was a neon Celtic Connections sign with only Celtic lit up . When Bobby introduced his band there was a wee cheer from us when he said one of his band was called Charles Green. It added to the enjoyment of the gig.

Yeah she loved the show and ordinarily she would have been in the thick of it dancing about as well, but she had a fall yesterday when she slipped in a supermarket so she was feeling very sore so she just stayed seated……well…..thats what she told me!

  5. Only seen him on tv before . Mrs HJ always wanted to see him and now she has so she is happy tonight.

Many years ago I missed the chance to take her to see Rod Stewart when we were on holiday in Spain. Now she will be going to see him on 25th May .

So,as far as I am concerned, by then I will have fulfilled all her wishes and she will never have anything to cast up to me ever again.

    That’s my theory anyway

Slightly belated birthday wishes to Roy C and Lucy on their big birthdays.

Hopefully Roy C is tucked up in bed and Lucy is still partying. :-))).

    Weebobbycollins.

    Great music selections. Thank you.

Sam Cooke is one of my all time favourites. What a singer and what a life. He played a big part in the Civil Rights movement, which is not often mentioned.

I hope Seamus Coleman recovers quickly and has the mental strength to recover from his leg break. A poor tackle in my opinion. Reckless.

JJ….do Level 5 have the SFA on their books?

I’m astounded that there has been no outcry in the media about the 7.45 pm kick off time on Sunday night for the Scotland game.

If anyone was in doubt as to how Sky and the SFA view Scottish football fans then here is your answer.

Sky, with the SFA bending over to keep them sweet, have decided that is the optimum time for the match to complete their weekend coverage of the World Cup qualifiers.

Screw the Tartan Army who can’t get home on a Sunday night as public transport closes down for the evening or watch the game, book into an hotel and miss work on the Monday………….take your choice.

There is nothing which the SFA is involved in that they can claim credit for.

Grass root football, obviously not working

The national team is a shambles

The national stadium is a disgrace………a stadium that has often hosted crowds of 130,000 plus, now reduced to 52,000.

Hundreds of youth coaches are out there who have not passed the relative checks.

We have the worst referees in Europe

Executives have been shown up as liars and corrupt.

If Craig Whyte was banned for life from any participation in Scottish football why has similar punishment not be handed out to Ogilvie, SDM and King, who between them make Whyte look like a choirboy?

Oh and yes Regan, we are all watching how you handle the UEFA licence, given FFP criteria.

Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts, St Johnstone all fully compliant………Rangers Lite not so.
