Brown and Wanyama need to set stage

377

Fifa yesterday banned Benfica and Brazil central defender Luisão from all football activities until November for knocking a referee unconscious in a preseason game against Fortuna Dusseldorf in August.

Benfica didn’t expect Luisão to be available for tonight’s Champions League game against Celtic but the decision, coming a day before kick-off, will do nothing for morale.  While they lost midfielders Javi Garcia and Axel Witsel to Manchester City and Zenit late in the transfer window, it shouldn’t be forgotten that Benfica spent well over £20m this summer.  The new guys will no doubt eventually prove their worth, but right now they remain very much the new guys.  Celtic have to make them feel a long way from home tonight.

During our last successful Champions League group stage in 2007 we concluded that it was more important not to make mistakes at this level than to try to score the perfect goal.  If we get a solid performance from Scott Brown and Victor Wanyama in front of a defence which clears its lines and takes no chances, the stage will be set for James Forrest and Gary Hooper.  I expect both to hurt Benfica.

It was interesting to hear our chief executive take questions on the subject of EBTs and the health of our club yesterday.  More on this after the matter in hand has passed.

No wonder the Sevco fans are looking glum today. The ole Ramsdens Cup theme will not be blasting through the Ibrox tannoy until next season.

  2. I really, really hope that after 15-20 mins of the game tonight the score is no worse than 0-0 – not so long ago we got into the habit of gifting really early goals in Europe before having had the chance to settle into the game.

Keep it tight, keep 100% focussed and don’t let a rush of blood to the head leave us chasing the game for 85 mins.

I’d be delighted with 2-1, with a late winner deep into injury time.

  4. “I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.”

Thomas Jefferson – 3rd President of USA

Quite frankly we are all screwed and inevitably the system of credit currently being passed off to the masses will finally be shown up for the waste of paper it is printed on. With ‘private’ institutions like Bank of England & Federel Reserve (nothing federel about it) controlling the circulation of a worthless currency and the interest we have the privilege of paying them back for printing it is absolutely scandalous. It is impossible for the country’s budget to be in black.

Every baseless value pound that the B. of E. pulls out its backside based on non audited or quanitified gold reserves is more debt and makes their small amount of stakeholders even richer.

The Euro and Dollar will not die out like predicted by many experts although if left naturally they inevitably would. They will be kept on a life support machine by the IMF and largest banks i.e. Goldman Sachs until they squeeze absolutely every commodity and natural resource from the suffering countries that have Central Banking systems ( all but 2 in the entire world) Currency as we know it will dissappear and the price of commodities will continue to go up.

David Cameron & Obama are like the Hotel managers who organise the daily running of the business but they take their orders from the banking fraternity indirectly. SNP have absolutely no chance of getting an independent Scotland and Salmond probably knows that but wielding the threat over downing street gets him more influence than other parties would.

Tax was used initially as a form generating a war budget and has never left. What everyone should want to know is how much exactly does the government collect in all taxes. I would place a bet on them actually receiving far more than they spend in running the country but the hidden figures of the interest paid to B. of E. and the like is where it mainly goes.

There is a small bar called the Highlander run by a good Celtic man which I’m sure will show it. Otherwise most of the larger places will show more than one game at a time although you might be stuck in a corner like we were for the Scotland game.

Initially a silver backed dollar was ok and their constitution outlined why state run currency should never be privatised. JP Morgan, Rockefeller et al created a deliberate depression and swallowed up all rival banks. They stopped at nothing at getting a central banking system with the Fed. Case made for JFK assassination is that he already signed executive order 11110 to reclaim the people’s right to control their sytem of credit. All their in history books.

That would be a very good team. The only problem I have with it is Rogne/Wilson in defence, as neither can pass to save themselves, which would mean Celtic would spend a lot of time without the ball after one of their agricultural clearances. But Commons playing behind Hooper, Br/Wan in CM, Lus/Matthews, and Izzy/Mulgrew – all are zoned in to each other’s play.

  20. `s game where Benfica will be the better side. That`s when our support is needed. Go for it Celtic!

    Hail! Hail!

  21. Out of one of Scottish football’s major trophies via a dubious late equaliser scored by a joker with a suspiciously Timmy sounding moniker, followed by penalty shoot out.

All to the accompaniment of honest mistakes made by by another joker with an even more Timmy sounding name.

Just seems that for Tims everywhere, 2012 is the year that Christmas Day simply refuses to go away.

  22. Quite like the suggested back four of Lustig, Rogne, Wilson and Matthews.

    Mulgrew pushed into midfield.

Izzy on the bench, as you can’t have Chas and him on the left side together.

I suppose it must be Commons and Hooper.

If we can get a good foothold early on, then we may be able to be more expansive later on, with Forrest and, perhaps, one of the new boys.

A point would do me, due to our important absentees.

Physicality at the back needed tonight – Cardoso has rag-dolled far stronger defences than ours. We need to sit on him hard. Their attack against our defence is a possible mismatch their manager will be looking to exploit. We need to defend hard, and get the ball forward quickly – no messing about in our own half – we need the win.
