Brozek aims to become first choice striker

166

Since Jock Stein’s famous comment, “If I had two players to choose from, a Catholic and a Protestant, I’d sign the Protestant, as that would deny Rangers two players”, Celtic managers have had an eye on their opponents across the city when making buying decisions.  Of course, until the late 80s there was zero chance of Polish footballers like Pawel Brozek being entertained at Ibrox, but in these enlightened times footballers, irrespective of religion, are welcome, or at least employed, by all Scottish clubs.

Pawel, who is expected to breeze through his medical this morning, will formally become a Celtic player this afternoon and train with the first team squad tomorrow.  He aims to become first choice striker and maintain his place in the Polish national team ahead of Euro 2012.  He joins an on-form Celtic full of confidence and purpose and is the team’s third signing this month after Mikael Lustig and Rabiu Ibrahim.

  1. early start today paul :O)

what a good deal to pick up for Celtic.

we have done well this window up until now.

I am not looking for a big signing that will disrupt players just quality back up when needed.

this guy could be a great help when the suspensions come rolling in.

we have more than enough to win the league at this point.

Could we expect a Fourth signing and it being another Striker.

Think Stokes days are numbered, he does not have the work ethic Neil wants…

    …………………

Is that the same Stokes who covered every blade of grass yesterday? If you’re talking about the lack of “work ethic” have a look at Hooper!

    – > saw highlights of Blackman in a couple of reserve games. He looked physically very strông and very quick – an excellent athlete. i was pleasantly surprised – i expected good technique, but somebody who ‘wasn’t up to it’ in terms of athleticism. I was wrong – he had the look of a typical epl player – fast, and very strong. In terms of ‘raw ingredients’ he is obviously got what is required.

I tend to agree with you judging by what Neil said at the end of the game yesterday and the fact that more often than not, Stokes is the one to make way. Though his goal scoring is exceptional and if he could put in the same work off the ball, he would be top top class.

I still think he would be a useful back-up so I certainly wouldn’t be advocating getting rid of him just yet. Maybe having Pawel here who can hopefully score a few goals will give Stokes the impetus to improve his game.

I thought Hooper was very good yesterday and I have seen a great improvement in his working off the ball recently. He comes back and helps out the defence far more than most strikers.

Neil reaction to Stokes after he was subbed tells me he is going nowhere.

I think Pavel may take Hoops place come the summer if he shows well?

Unfortunately i think Hoops will be away at the end of this campaign.

Stokes goals/games ratio is much better than i hoped when he signed…maybe not got the all round game but has worked much harder this season.

Only a buffoon or a Hun at the wind up would criticise our two main strikers after yesterday’s game….FFS!

  10. a very warm CELTIC welcome to you Pawel, you have joined the very best team in the world. Congratulations too to the beautifully handled transfer, kinda low key and brilliantly done, well done.

My only worry is that we have not sold off any ‘squad’ players this time and the wage bill is ever increasing, but I’m confident that will be taken care of in the next couple of days as well.

Signings like this add more spice and motivation to the team who will require to fight even harder to hold down a first team place.

    Me very happy Tim

  12. If Rangers do try to sign David Templeton from Hearts as a replacement for Jelavic, will Romanov accept a payment plan in instalments?

The kids tickets are a Lottery. The ones we had yesterday were Super in North Stand/Old enclosure but last year we eventually paid full price for Scottish cup final after continually being stuck behind grown ups who wouldnt sit down in the Celtic end.

We picked tickets in North Enclosure because even if people stand you get a better view.

The Celtic end is terrible for watching the game if you are in the front ?? 20 rows especially with kids.

  14. David Peter Deans on

    Good morning fellow Celts,

Not had chance to post for a while, i hope everbody is well and looking forward to a good second half to the season.

I have to say after watching the game yesterday we were poor in my opinion. Very slow in the build up and sluggish, we would have been beaten if the opposition were stronger. Izzy has not recovered from is lay off and is not ready for the first team. The midfield looked very pedestrian to me, no sharp movement with little idea on how to break through the falkirk back line. Hopefully we will get better.

  15. Well pleased to make the first final of the season. Credit to Falkirk for trying to play the game but really we won comfortably without moving out of second gear. Izzy is not ready, Cha has little skill and no nous and big Vic was careless. Joe’s starting position was too far up the park. FF did what he had to do, Chas was excellent in first half at CB but drifted back there in second half when he should have been LB. Forrest was quiet but Cha neither makes spaces or passes for him.

Rogne is a real player and will be a terrific CB for us. Hooper works so hard for the team, he was brilliant yesterday but MOM was captain Broony. He bestrode the game yesterday and while their No. 10 was good, Broony was the most effective man on the park. Super penalty. Lenny’s tactical decisions at half time were excellent and showed real understanding of what was happening in the game.

The Gazebo Gang symposium at No.10 went well with the Carluke crew mob handed and an unexpected intro to Jobo, though DBBIA was missed. Bookings are being taken for the 18th March as the precursor to the main event, hopefully, in May, when the Celts go up to lift the SC.

Love it when Celtic make my weekend.

    Welcome Pawel.

We played a Falkirk team yesterday, currently 5 points behind leaders Ross County in the 1st Division, despite having played 2 games more, who put up a highly creditable performance despite having 36 year old veteren Darren Dods paired with 19 year old rookie Murray Wallace in central defence, assisted by 19 year old Kieran Duffie at right back (who showed up very well) and 23 year old Tam Scobbie on the left.

A cup semi final win is welcome in any circumstances but let’s not get carried away eh.

  17. tommytwiststommyturns on

TBB – who’s getting carried away? Tony scored a brilliant free-kick and Gary had a cracking game, he’s very underrated IMHO. I wish the rest of the team provided as much movement as Gary when we are in possession.

In the manager’s interview after the game, he pointed out that he had spoken to Stokesy about his overall game not being good enough and he was very happy with the response he got from him yesterday.

Hopefully, Pawel’s arrival will inspre more consistent performances from all the strikers at the club.
