Brozek in Glasgow chess game. Check.

1155

Two years ago I had a memorable journey from one end of Poland to the other, mostly in silent prayer that our man from Poland would slow down, to check out a few footballers, including Wisla Krakow striker, Pawel Brozek, who obliged with a goal.

Pawel has played mostly as a lone striker, he can hold the ball up and bring others into the game.  He’s not a particularly tricky player but he has good positional sense inside the box.  His move to Trabzonspor last year hasn’t worked out well as he has played back up to scoring sensation, Burak Yilmaz, who is averaging better than a goal per game in the league this season.  Brozek’s record at Wisla was comparable to Maciej Zurawski, who he replaced as top striker in the league.

The Polish CQN brigade told me Celtic should move for Pawel and his twin brother before Trabzonspor signed them.  When news leaked that Pawel was a target to replace ex-Rangers player (too soon?) Nikica Jelavic our man in Poland suggested he would pick up a lot of points for Rangers in the SPL.

If he comes to Celtic on a six month loan both parties will have plenty of opportunity to figure out if there is long term fit.  In the meantime, should Pawel arrive we have someone to put pressure on Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes and the Cheeky Chappie will have to consider his next move (again, too soon?).

On the subject of Jelavic….  Remember in August 2010 when we were told he “effectively went on strike” to engineer his escape from Rapid Vienna after the player declared he wasn’t able to face Aston Villa?  I hear he’s unable to play against Hibs this afternoon.

    You’re kidding, right?

Something both new and fangled (to me anyway). 3G sim card thingy in a tablet.

Ask one of your wee lassies – they’ll know all about it. A mystery to me.

Think we’ve found a place to buy but in the G’s, not the ML’s. Final, final, final decision to be made soon.

Hope you, Mrs First and the little First’s are in good fettle.

it has always been down to football..

We have always had to beat the 13 men, or do we just choose to believe only some things Mr Stein said.

    nothing ever changes….

The Board are not infallible but they have tried to govern Celtic according to values I approve of.

When I talk about capacity building I recognise its absence as well as presence and what either creates.

I applaud them for the capacity they have built and encourage them to build the missing capacity that has yet to be created.

    I find encouragement pays.

Let’s get Templeton from Hearts signed on a Bosman,so he can join us in the Summer.

    He’s Celtic-mad.

Remember the game last season when he scored and Joe Ledley was sent off?

Quite a towsy encounter, but it was noticeable that as the final whistle sounded,he dashed over to a Celtic player, whipping off his shirt,so urgent was his desire to exchange it for the magnificent Hoops.

    He’s Celtic-Mad,I tell Ye…..

We need to maintain squad size…even with the most recent incomings, our squad will be smaller next season than it was last August, with so many of our less effective players coming to the end of their contracts…

Then we’ll have a squad of Bona Fide Hunskelpers….

You are 100% correct mate.At last our club seems to have got its act together regarding our scouting system.

Many on this forum think by paying more it will automatically bring success.

It may be the case, especially in this country but in the big picture we need to be smart with what we spend.

Mistakes have been made by the board, ie willo window, but the smart signings of Victor,Kayal etc in conjunction

with good coaching, teamwork, organisation and a collective desire to take the club forward will result in the champions

league back @ paradise while the cheating orcs have a league match at hampden against Queens Park to froth at.

Aye and maybe the evil day Scottish football has been trying to avoid to its cost would have happened a lot sooner.

Putting Rangers out of business was never Celtic’s objective, but Rangers putting Rangers out of business is beyond Celtic’s power to prevent.

Think of it as a dysfunctional marriage where one partner has a drink problem. The other partner out of fear of losing the abusive partner and living without them will do all in their power not to lose the abusive one, until the penny drops that the marriage is not worth saving or beyond their power to save.

I think that penny finally dropped with Celtic in 2010 when they finally realised the cost of the abusive relationship to them. The only hope of saving the relationship is if the drinking partner stops before it kills them. They appear unwilling to do so.

In a fairytale the abused partner would move house and find a new non addicted partner and live happily ever after. At present it is more a nightmare than fairy tale.

I think you are missing the point. Celtic have been building the capacity to remain on top for the foreseeable future.

Rangers lack the capacity to see the end of the season.

They will need to build that capacity. That and lack of spending to compensate makes the prospect of their continuing football success so unlikely it could only be explained by match rigging.

  15. WMD

    aye..

Thats cos Lenny actually listens to John Park.

All bow before our head of scouting!!

Very very nice metaphor for the implosion of the Orcs.

    But it can be expanded

I think that a more apt comparison is one where:

both parties in the marriage drink themselves silly,

until one goes on a truly tremendous binge and wakes up skint the next day. They have the memories and its a great story to pass on, but they realise they need to do it on the cheap or they wont be able to drink at all in the near future.

This changes said parties spending outlook.

Thereafter they try to brew their own, get decent drinks on the cheap, but still get the occasional highland Malt.

The other however drinks and drinks and drinks. Not realising they are paying over the odds for swill and run up a huge tab they cant possibly cash. Bartender asks for tab to be settled and that is a very very sobering thought.

and I’ll drink to that sir!!

What’s happened to the predicted firesale at the hun, at this rate they will struggle to get rid of the diving Croat.

Welcome to Pawel when he arrives.

We play in the next LE stage against Sporting Lisbon. We are second in the league. Slask Wroclaw are top. I hoped that Fojut would be off but looks like he stays with them untill the end of this season. I heard he was good for them. Good grief.

    Re. media.

I can’t say we (Poland) are better or have better media or something like that.

    It’s the history thing.

In the Communism era we had planty of the newspapers who lied to us. I was very young in that time and remember that my parents used to buy only one newspaper only on Friday to have TV schedule for whole next week. My older brothers used to read Sport Review becouse there was not much lies in it.

So. People knew what was the truth even when they bought the newspapers. We have learned how to separate the truth from the lies. If the newspaper would put lies today on their paper, nobody would buy them. We have one, maybe two tabloids. That’s how it works in here. Media in Poland are different but like I told you, it’s the matter of the experiences.
