Burden of history against Kilmarnock

890

I don’t like the run-up to home games against Kilmarnock, this was especially so when Gordon Strachan was manager.  Someone would always ask Gordon the 1955 question, “Gordon, did you know….”  If you don’t know the question, don’t go looking for it.  It’s a fact that should ostensibly give you confidence but it only puts me into a nervous disposition.  During Gordon’s time, every game felt like a must-win game.  The carnage on here after a 2-2 home draw with Dundee United lives long in the memory, so the burden of a reversal at home to Kilmarnock would have been intolerable.

Celtic have an enormously impressive history which can inspire great things in the support but sometimes it’s evidently a burden to those having to go out and win the next game.  Jock Stein’s famous, “The Celtic jersey doesn’t shrink to fit inferior players” quote was meant to inspire greatness and awe, but I’ve seen it used to damn contemporary players who were in no way inferior to some who played for Celtic in Jock’s latter years in charge.

Kilmarnock beat Rangers last time out and will feel as though they let two points slip away against us earlier in the season.  Celtic should be sufficiently concerned to avoid premature Christmas cheer.

Best wishes to our friends at the Melbourne No. 1 CSC, who will be celebrating Christmas during tomorrow’s game.

  3. Evening folks.

Eight weeks ago I said to myself, right, that’s my last drink til Christmas Eve.

So after much training, healthy eating, and sobriety, here I am.

    The question is…

Is it Christmas Eve in twenty minutes time, or do I wait until tomorrow?

I’m lucky as right now I don’t want to drink. Quite comfortable overall, just already fed up with booze everywhere, but it’s pissing me off more than making me want to drink.

Hard time for many people and I’ll spare a thought for you and yours over the next few days.

    Well Said.

    Especially wee Oscar.

I hope Celtic can do something over the coming weeks, I’m sure they will.

The more people praying for Oscar the better is my opinion. Even a wee mention on the official website for Celtic fans worldwide to keep the wee guy in their prayers would be the most amazing help to him.

Cheers mate and remember if you need help with tickets (so long as it’s no Peterhead) or somewhere to stay just give me a shout.

Go for it m8, or can you wait 1 more minute?

    :))

  9. Knoxy2000 ,

caught your post today while i was actually donating platelets – it brought it home to me that there are people throughout the chain and it’s not just abstract. I’ll say a wee prayer for Oscar and hope that my platelets can go to him – i can’t believe NI get their’s shipped over from Scotland !!

For those of you who are unaware , whitedoghunch posted a link earlier to http://www.scotblood.co.uk . donating is p!ss easy and painless (otherwise I couldn’t/wouldn’t do it)

start off by donating whole blood – once you’ve done that and you haven’t fainted and you’re over 9st in weight (not a problem for our fhat bhoys ) , ask if you can join the apheresis panel – it’s that simple – the benefit is that you can donate up to 17 times a year (yes , you read that right – 17 ) and each donation is , at minimum , a double donation and sometimes even a triple .

So , instead of donating 4 times a year and supplying 4 pints of blood , you can donate 17 times and can contribute up to 25 pints of platelets/plasma . This is vital in the treatment of newborns , cancer victims , haemophiliacs , etc.

Hail Hail guys , here’s to another 3 points tomorrow , the 1000th kid through the turnstiles for The Kano Foundation , and , most importantly , a combined prayer for a brave wee bhoy , Oscar , and the realisation that sometimes there are things more important than football.

    hail hail my friend.

  12. PS , forgot to add ,

there are 3 platelet donor centres in Scotland (that I know of) , Nelson Mandela Place in Glasgow , Laurieston Place (i think) in Edinburgh and Ninewells hospital in Dundee . There are various centres spread around the rest of the uk – check online and phone them .

  14. Morning bhoys, had more than a few, but not a bother, it’s hun free as ever.

Took the young fellas girl to her work earlier, was having a few vinos anyways, there was a pool comp on, thought for a laugh I would enter, cost a euro, now been along time since I hit a pool ball, but for some unknown reason the balls went where I intended them, won 3 live lobsters, that was for getting to the semi final, well worth a euro btw, they are huge.

Any news, have the hun gone to hell yet? if not why not ?

I made a detour by the Church as well, lit a candle for Oscar, no being brought up in the Catholic faith, as near as dam it, a Pisci, the local preist said he would say a prayer as well, and he would ask his congretation to say a prayer for Oscar as well.

    Knoxy, miricals do happen.
