Burden of history against Kilmarnock

I don’t like the run-up to home games against Kilmarnock, this was especially so when Gordon Strachan was manager.  Someone would always ask Gordon the 1955 question, “Gordon, did you know….”  If you don’t know the question, don’t go looking for it.  It’s a fact that should ostensibly give you confidence but it only puts me into a nervous disposition.  During Gordon’s time, every game felt like a must-win game.  The carnage on here after a 2-2 home draw with Dundee United lives long in the memory, so the burden of a reversal at home to Kilmarnock would have been intolerable.

Celtic have an enormously impressive history which can inspire great things in the support but sometimes it’s evidently a burden to those having to go out and win the next game.  Jock Stein’s famous, “The Celtic jersey doesn’t shrink to fit inferior players” quote was meant to inspire greatness and awe, but I’ve seen it used to damn contemporary players who were in no way inferior to some who played for Celtic in Jock’s latter years in charge.

Kilmarnock beat Rangers last time out and will feel as though they let two points slip away against us earlier in the season.  Celtic should be sufficiently concerned to avoid premature Christmas cheer.

Best wishes to our friends at the Melbourne No. 1 CSC, who will be celebrating Christmas during tomorrow’s game.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Celtic get some very tempting offers for Ki in January.

  5. up_over_goal- Yes, he will be a target, he would be sensational in the EPL, but I hope we can keep him to the summer at least.

Off to CP, Mon the Hoops.

  6. Celtic should be actively encouraging our players to play for team GB. Any pressure we can put on to bust the sectarian corporation and negotiate our way out of the SPL has to be good.

As an aside, I wonder if team GB have thought of asking Aiden McGeady. Believe there is no reason why he could not play for them.

Everything in life I have asked for has come to me apart from Celtic winning the big cup in my lifetime and a bigger wullie.

Is Craig Whyte really selling the Ibrox big screens on eBay?!

I was sure he had promised to fix both the screens at the same time he used the Commonwealth games funding, er… I mean his own money, to give the pie stalls a fresh lick of paint.

I wonder if any of the finance people can do a check on GARC LTD. Another of Craigie boy’s dodgy companies?

  11. Missing the game today so it will be CQN updates on the phone. Hopefully there will be a few goals to cheer the xmas crowd. And no new injuries worries before the next game would be good.

Hope Izaguirre gets a run out today. We’ve missed him over the last few months.

  12. A headed goal would be a nice wee festive surprise, especially if it came from Bangura in 67 minutes ;) Hail Hail and Happy Christmas.

  13. Afternoon bhoys, sun is out, warm and hun free as ever.

Hangover from hell, teach me not to mix the drinks.

So it’s a stream today then, play half as good as we can and 3 points are a given.

I pray that St Mirren get something from their game today, but seeing as the cheats are in full flow I very much doubt it.

  14. I think we’ll go

I have just listened to the ridiculous, beautiful and ridiculously beautiful ‘Snowflake’ by wonky pop mentalist Kate Bush and am now ready to break the world record for consuming chipolatas.

3 points and no heart attack inducing wobbles today please Celtic.

  18. Not the Rangers news on

Rangers are lining up a sensational swoop for Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a replacement for the misfiring Niki Jelavic. Sources close to the deal say it is 99% certain to happen but only if Rangers can offload their unhappy Croat for £9Million+.

Zlatan, it is thought, is willing to give Rangers all the time that is required for his dream move to materialise.

Chairman Craig has alerted Europes top agents that he intends to be a serious mover and shaker this January, the ZI move is just the start is what is understood to be Chairman Craigs mantra.

Manchester United are refusing to entertain Rangers player swap deal for Wayne Rooney. Greg Wylde has stated he would consider stepping down a level if it means he can get his career back on track.

Rumours abound in Italy that Edinson Cavani is stalling on a new contract at Napoli so he can sign a pre contract agreement with Rangers in 3 years time. The Uruguyan hitman is understood to be a long time fan of the Glasgow giants.

NTRN understands that Rangers are very close to signing Barcelona duo Pedro and Pique but it may be protracted because of the Catalans ridiculous debt situation.

And finally, it looks like stalwart Kyle Laugherty is moving on to pastures new after Rangers accepted a bid of £18.5Million from Brazillian crack outfit Bahia.

  20. NEIL LENNON has criticised the scheduling of matches for Christmas Eve.

Neil Lennon believes it is unfair to ask supporters to come to games on Christmas Eve

Celtic play Kilmarnock today as the Clydesdale Bank Premier League stages a full complement of matches but Lennon said: ”I am disappointed there are games on Christmas Eve. It is the first time in my professional career that I have been involved in a game on Christmas Eve.”

The Celtic manager said he would ”totally understand” if some fans did not attend the match. ”It will be very difficult for our fans in England, Ireland or the north of Scotland to come to the games. I would understand if they didn’t come.

”I haven’t a clue why they have done it. Boxing Day would have been fine and we maybe could have moved the Old Firm game back a day or two.”
