Business complete after Griffiths

1474

With Leigh Griffiths set to sign in the next few moments our business for the January transfer window is complete.  As well as Leigh, we added 20-year-old Icelandic striker Holmbert Fridjobsson, and 23-year-old Norwegian left-midfielder, Stefan Johansen.

I expect Johansen and Griffiths to be holding down a starting place no later than next month.  Johansen’s case will be made all the more straightforward if Joe Ledley accepts an offer from Crystal Palace, although he may choose to wait until the summer before leaving.

We’ll be wondering why we signed Mo Bangura years from now, he patently didn’t look a player at Celtic.

Neil Lennon has a fixer-upper with Leigh, a player he has taken a number of references for and believes he can turn into a productive Celtic player.   The player’s personal history is something he has to put behind him now.  I’ve read many comments on this subject over the last few days, with some empathy, but it’s just as well Twitter wasn’t around in the 60s, 70s or 80s.  Some of our heroes from past eras have been more than a tad off-colour in my earshot.

Time for Leigh to get onto the field and do what he does best.

  3. For those doubting the wisdom of the Leigh Griffith signing I suggest you take a look at the u-tube of his goals . Its packed with high quality strikes . Powerful ,accurate ,long distance ,close range and penaltys and freekicks – clinical shooting at its best.

And he likes to celebrate in the faces of the opposition fans. Our friendly mibs will be polishing their yellow cards.

Owen, thanks for your learned opinion & thats what it all comes down to mate! Its something you might have heard of called business planning. We might have done this in the summer when hooper left & our full time scouting team were scouring the globe to fill his boots. So i’m somewhat surprised after our global trawl that LG is the sum of all our efforts in this transfer window in the striking dept. CL qualification still remains a gamble & in terms of mitigating this risk of not qualifying & the financial effects it will on the business for 2014/15 season I don’t feel we have done that if you do thats your perogative time will tell!!!!

Kayals days at Celtic are numbered, cant see him being a main stay, said it previously, Wanyama took his place when he broke his leg, and I have a feeling that either Biton or Johansen will elbow him out again. Injuries havent helped, and he is a decent player but cant see him lasting much longer

  8. Jim White or one of the other sky huns just stirring it with the Ambrose story.

Ambrose the “bomb-scare” who has made his critics eat their words.

  9. What now for sevco if they don’t shift any players by close of window? Will it be another happy valentines day?

  10. Kayal33

Possibly against a sterner opposition than St Mirren but, for this one, I would like to see a very attacking side and I think Biton provides that. Anyway, I full expect Forrest Brown Ledley Mulgrew to be Neil`s selection.

Think he’ll be off in the summer, had he not been injured he may have been off this month.

  17. I can understand concerns about LG’s character but can see no issues about his ability as a striker. His career to date, played 224 goals 111, is testament to a good striker. If he continues with this goal rate then we can expect 30 goals a season from him. In fact though with the excellent players around him it is reasonable to hope that this strike rate improves. LG is the real deal as a striker and will bring extra edge to the team. Welcome.

Kayal33 & Jungle Jim, I know Lustig managed to hobble his way onto the park midweek for the windfall draw but I don’t think he’s going to feature on Sunday.

Young Darnell will do just tickety boo.

Turkeybhoy. I am happy with what we have done in this transfer window including the players who have gone out on loan to gain experience.I am not Joe Ledleys biggest fan so Im not worried wither he goes or stays I would have liked to see Sammi move on but there is time yet.I think we have a group of very good young players.I think the club are being managed very well so no moans from me.H.H.

Slightly more reliable source – ‘MadeInFoot’ now reporting Marseille interest in Samaras. Aliadière move ruled out, makes way for Sammy bid.

I have a long memory of Scottish football grounds.

Back in the dark dank days of the 50s, before black and white TV, our only entertainment was playing Hang the Man and listening to the Home Station on the cat’s whiskers.

Genuine question – apologies if its been asked (im still at work so havent been following the blog much but I have a burning question!)

Peter Lawell is substantially bonused based on non footballing KPI’s as we all know.

    Will there be a KPI linked to and will he therefore lose out in any way for the following;

2 x Assets valued (arguably) at £8m 1 year ago were both retained.

Same 2 x Assets (arguably) at £5m 5 months ago were both retained.

Fast forward the clock 6 months and said assets will have left the club for a combined total of £700k.

Having a deadline as to when new contracts are agreed is a criteria I would have assumed was rigidly in place but it doesnt seem to be.

For such a tightly run financial organisation I would be shocked to learn that we could literally allow ourselves to lose £7-8m worth of capital – considering thats 10% of annual turnover on a very good year!

I would be interested in your thoughts because you are obviously such a keen supporter of how Celtic are run (thats not me saying I am not or getting a dig in – its just a very real concern over what I feel is a glaring omission by Celtic PLC)
