‘BUTTON IT, BARTON,’ SUTTON

BIG-MOUTH Joey Barton has blabbed again and lined himself up perfectly for a volley from former Celtic goal hero Chris Sutton.

The Ibrox dud, who had a pop at Hoops skipper Scott Brown yesterday, as reported in CQN, has now had a go at the standards of Scottish football.

Barton declared the levels of football north of the border as “pathetic” and, of course, he is speaking from experience after his memorable marquee stint under Mark Warburton, currently unemployed, in trophyless Govan.

The original deal was for two years, but the man who played a total of 12 minutes for the England international team saw the contract shredded after six months.

The former Burnley player, who, like his ex-Ibrox boss, has a lot of time on his hands these days, took to the airwaves on TalkSPORT yesterday to say: “I had had a better career than anyone playing for Celtic at the time.

“I had proved myself in the English Premier League, but how many of their players had come down and done the same?

“I have a lot of respect for the history and traditions of Rangers and Celtic, but the standard is pathetic up there.

“I left Scottish football because I couldn’t deal with the poor standards all around me and I came back to the Premier League and scored on my debut for Burnley.”

Sutton took to Twitter to hit back at the loose-lipped Liverpudlian.

The ex-Hoops ace insisted the 35-year-old couldn’t handle the pressure in Scotland and was sceptical over his claims he had accomplished more than the likes of Scott Brown, Craig Gordon, a former £9million buy for Sunderland, Scott Sinclair, who cost Manchester City £10million when they signed him from Swansea, and Mikael Lustig, who will be heading for the World Cup Finals in Russia in the summer after his nation, Sweden, eliminated Italy.

Sutton tweeted: “You’ve got to love Joey.

“Good career, but he was found wanting for Rangers and simply couldn’t handle the big club pressure so it was everyone else’s fault…

“So Scottish football is rubbish.. And he’s had a better career than Lustig and Brown…mmm.”

No doubt there will be a response from barmy Barton. We await his comments with baited breath.
