BYE BYE, BIG PHIL

RANGERS have sacked Philippe Clement – just 24 hours after the club’s 2-0 loss to St Mirren at Ibrox.

The blundering Belgian got the boot only 16 months after taking over the Govan hot seat from Michael Beale in October 2023.

Clement refused to answer questions about his future yesterday after the club’s latest humiliation and insisted he was focused on the job at hand.

However, with the club 13 points behind Celtic and the Premiership title heading back to Parkhead for the fourth successive season, the thirteenth time in 14 years and the 55th crown in total, the axe has fallen on Clement.

WHERE DO I GO NOW? Philippe Clement has time to ponder his future.

He won the Premier Sports League Cup a few weeks after joining following his summer sacking from Monaco, but promises of a bright, new trophy-laden future proved to be pie in the sky.

Brendan Rodgers led the Hoops to the flag with an eight-point advantage and also the Scottish Cup, with Adam Idah striking the late winner against Clement and Co on May 25.

The Govan outfit were knocked out of the Champions League at the qualifying stage by Dinamo Kyiv and Celtic again beat them in a Hampden showpiece showdown in the League Cup in a dramatic penalty-kick shoot-out in mid-December.

Clement, 50, escaped the chop after the team had been dismissed from the Scottish Cup by second-tier Queen’s Park at Ibrox, but he couldn’t dodge the bullet this weekend as new chief executive Patrick Stewart made the decision to hand him his P45.

The club are now looking for an interim manager with a game against Kilmarnock due at Rugby Park on Wednesday.

SAY A PRAYER…Philippe Clement looks for some Divine Intervention.

Former gaffer Steven Gerrard has already been mentioned among the possibilities to become Clement’s long-term successor.

The one-time Liverpool and England star quit Govan for Aston Villa in 2021 after two and a half years at the club.

Gerrard is out of work after being fired by Saudi club Al-Ettifaq last month.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst took over before he, too, got the bullet to make way for Beale.

The managerial merry-go-round took another spin when he was dismissed to make way for Clement.

Who will be next to step aboard football’s version of the Big Dipper?
