Cadete scandal casts shadow

1236

Alexander (Sandy) Bryson has been mentioned in reports concerning another controversial matter in SFA history.  He was Head of Registrations when Celtic tried to register Jorge Cadete in 1996.  That case led to SFA chief executive, Jim Farry, being dismissed for gross misconduct after he failed to register the player in time for him to face Rangers in a Scottish Cup tie.

The Burness report into what happened noted that Farry “deflected responsibility to Mr (Sandy] Bryson (head of registrations] …. (on] certain executive decisions”.  In a contemporary article, Mirror Group Newspapers noted “it is unclear what part registration chief Sandy Bryson may have played in this debacle”.

Don’t suppose their moral bankruptcy being held up for the world to see will bother them one little bit.

They kept their “titles” , a bit like a bank robber being found guilty but being told he can keep the money.

Also being released into a bank vault with a free reign to take what he wants and escape.

  3. Paul may be a bit unfair by referring to Sandy Bryson’s role in the Cadete affair.

Sandy apparently works 24 hours a day in the SFA offices.

    Rembmers this from the BBC:

Rangers have finally signed striker Steven Naismith from Kilmarnock for a fee of £1.9m.

The Ibrox club failed with repeated offers for the 20-year-old over the summer but got their man in the final few minutes of the transfer window.

Naismith submitted then withdrew a transfer request at Rugby Park and has performed well for Killie this term.

Rangers claimed they had dropped their interest in the SPFA Young Player of the Year but nipped in with a late bid.

Sandy Bryson, head of the Scottish FA’s registration department, confirmed that paperwork confirming the deal was complete arrived by fax at Hampden at 23.59 BST, beating the midnight deadline.

Defiance is all the fans of our former rivals have as they traipse to grounds with hedges round them.

Meanwhile, Celtic supporters are rubbing shoulders with the European elite.

We are laughing loudest – and today’s outcome will not change that.

Green, verdict confirms they didnt cheat. They can walk with their head held high. They can look forward to a bright future. The World IS Yours, Tony Montana.

Not a trace of an apology to the cheated creditors, they are owed the apology…..

    Strange article Paul…….?

having read over the full report I feel it is worth noting and respecting as a fine work of art………

To find the central case guilty but to find it has no import and to dress it up so well is truly a thing of beauty.

    Some have pointed to aspects:

    I would highlight 2:

    1. On the crucial matter of issue 3(c) and end of 3(b) LNS was able to infer that the SPL lead had no desire to pursue this avenue………

    2. The breach period is defined as 2005 on and so leave RC Ogilvie absolutely in the total squeaky clean clear…….

Truely truely a work of art.

That should also be recognised as a truely great work of fiction is also beyond doubt and…….belief.

But……… the judiciary do this every day of the week. The idea that they ‘weigh’ evidence and follow it is risible. Every day they reach ‘conclusions’ based on how they feel but as skilled wordsmiths then bend the facts to suit their mettle.

I don’t expect or want a statement or reaction from CFC. It would be nice though if they had the haw maws to take us on a journey of discovery and a path out of this hellhole. Unfortunately the guardians seem as much a part of the furniture as zombie FC.

Gutted. I can’t see how I can continue to fund this charade any longer. It is now beyond the pale and whilst I love my club I don’t like it bent over and told to take it once again.

I’d pay and be happy to to see my team in any league/competition/friendlies as long as it was outside this cesspit. I am going to struggle to justify to myself and my family handing over any more cash for what is the footballing equivalent of WWF.

    HH

  7. Only one last thing to say.

Who’s going to pay the 250 grand?

    No one that’s who.

  8. It’s like Lance Armstrong being allowed to retain his Tour de France titles because no one actually caught him using drugs at the time.

this was very well put…..sorry about that

  9. When two teams meet each other for the first time it has become the custom that tokens are swapped, pendants etc.

When Celtic meet Sevco for the first time we should present them with a blow torch and tin of brasso, 5 michelin stars and a ‘sample’ bottle of urine. This should be done by Hoopy in a WWF leotard to the ‘Looney Toones’ musical intro.

    Anything less is a scandal.

  10. lionroars67 – fair point. Key to this is whether Bryson’s advice is consistent with published rules and regulations. There are a couple of quotes above (one from me) suggesting they are not but early days and more research needed. The SPL rules evolved about this over the time in question and I think there is also a suggestion of inconsistencies between SFA and SPL rules which further complicates things.

I’m assuming that when Spartans were thrown out the Scottish Cup in 2011 (and I assume Bryson would have been involved as it is the SFA’s competition) the single player in the single match who was deemed improperly registered on the basis of a clearly accidental failure to date his forms in two rather than one place was still eligible to play.

  11. The Ghood will prevail on

I’m sorry I just don’t buy into this letting LNS off the hook mularkey. So an SFA official gave evidence that your players are kosher forevermore unless you get caught in the act at the point of registration… OK, so why didn’t LNS try to corroborate this dubious-sounding version of reality, e.g. with UEFA? Why didn’t he seek precedents? Why would LNS take at his word an official belonging to an organisation whose president is implicated in the whole scandal, an organisation who had enormous amounts of credibility to lose should the full truth be heard?

    It’s a whitewash.

We will now be told by the MSM to move on.We can’t, because this cheating is just going to repeat itself, perhaps in a different guise, in years to come. We’ve lost TENS OF MILLIONS of pounds directly and indirectly due to this cheating. It’s depressing that a year after oldco went into administration that all the villains of the piece (Ogilvie, Regan, Doncaster) remain in situ. It’s time that clubs, specifically my club, raised ‘no confidence’ in the powers that be and that the procedures and rules are completely overhauled to ensure that no loopholes exist for future skullduggery. That’s the very least we are owed.

  12. And Rangers sign a kit deal with PUMA. Rather than Adidas as they mentioned to NARSA in November. A good day for RFC fans.

    Should have been Cheetah…..

  13. We all seen the guy running on to the pitch at Tynecastle and whacking Neil Lennon, only to be found not guilty by the lord nimmo smiths of this world, we really should not have expected anything other than what we got, I’m annoyed at actually thinking there was a chance justice would prevail this time.

    Great post among many today.

I understand why people can feel that Scottish football is bust, how can we play when we know we have been cheated?

Ghuys, when did you ever think we weren’t being cheated?

It’s out in the open now, we know it, the evidence is there for all to see, only those unwilling to see this truth will not see it. This verdict only gives them an excuse not to see.

They have always cheated, they always will, we fight against that, that is one of the many things that make our club, and the community around it what it is.

    UTLR.

Get it? We are the football Rhebels, they don’t like us and will do anything to keep us where they feel we should be, the fact we are at the top of the game in Scotland, with no real rival must be hurting them now. Good.

    Fight the good fight.

    COYBIG

Thanks for the reply, just not accepting this Mr Bryson nonsense

In decades of involvement of football at all levels, i have heard of and been involved with numerous cases regarding registration of players, i have never ever been aware of the caveat surrounding this eligibility to play nonsense, im almost certain any investigation of previous registration cases heard from boys, youth and senior level throughout all associations connected to and the SFA themselves would clearly illustrate my point, LNS was either easily duped or was happy to have an out for a political judgement meant to appease all sides

  16. Paul67 et al

I mentioned on here last week that it was thanks to Lord Nimmo-Smith that supporters of the new club could claim to be the same club, however deluded. I stated that the problem he faced was trying to marry company law with rules of association. I got that wrong. he never had any problem with it at all.

I take it the creditors and thers lots of them will be very interested where oldco will get the 250k. Esp the childrens charity who they thieved £3600 from.

  18. Gordon J – great stuff. My only criticism is that the unfair advantage you refer to was as consequence of aggressive tax avoidance / evasion (await FTT verdict) rather than improper registration. To add a further layer of complexity though, one might reasonably conclude that improper registration was motivated by aggressive tax avoidance / evasion.

Could the evidence by Bryson, and LNS’s acceptance of it, open the way for Spartans and other such teams in the same position, to bring the SFA/to court to seek damages ?

Quite a few have been advocating that Celtic should wait till after the FTT delivered it’s verdict, and then others said Celtic should wait till after the LNS verdict has been delivered.

Well, both are in, and the only club who will suffer in the long term is Celtic.

The huns have their comfort blanket in the sfa and it’s minions, the msm and especially the match fixers.

I honestly have no faith that the suits will play this correctly.

Many will walk, the game is corrupt, we have know this for years, but the powers have now confirmed the corruption, stick or twist time.

I think they will stick, I will wager all I hold dear they will stick.

  21. lionroars67 – we’re pretty much on the same page actually. It may become clearer just how much for movement LNS had. I would agree that if he did have some then he is culpable.
