Cadete scandal casts shadow

1236

Alexander (Sandy) Bryson has been mentioned in reports concerning another controversial matter in SFA history.  He was Head of Registrations when Celtic tried to register Jorge Cadete in 1996.  That case led to SFA chief executive, Jim Farry, being dismissed for gross misconduct after he failed to register the player in time for him to face Rangers in a Scottish Cup tie.

The Burness report into what happened noted that Farry “deflected responsibility to Mr (Sandy] Bryson (head of registrations] …. (on] certain executive decisions”.  In a contemporary article, Mirror Group Newspapers noted “it is unclear what part registration chief Sandy Bryson may have played in this debacle”.

  1. Celtic’s truce and spirit of cooperation with the SFA has failed, they serve only one club whatever it is called, football is a bogey in this country.

  2. Estadio, 10 in a row is a nice thought but I suspect within 3 or 4 of these years Sevco will be in the top division having set up EBT 2.0 and signed 11 thugs they can’t afford.

definitely, what will be utterly nauseating will all the ex-celtic players who’ll take a shilling from the press to regale us with old firm games of the past and how they’re looking forward after such a lengthy absence

“In Rangers’ case, so far, this only means they are not guilty of cheating.”

whats your take on that sentence or am I reading into something that isnt there?

  5. VertWolf – don’t like the ‘assured by the integrity of the process’ comment although do note the final paragraph about considering the detail.

googy bhoy – absolutely not the first or last, but the one that makes my skin crawl the most.

    ……………….

Unfortunately I think there will before skin crawling decisions soon to get them back in the SPL.

  7. TET,

Like most of us, you and I knew what the outcome was likely to be.

Even so, the mind blowing contortions they went through to achieve it, is breathtaking.

I supported Celtic’s stance of holding their council, until the end game happened.

Now, they have to declare their position, after carefully weighing up the rammifications of their statement.

There is no future for the game in Scotland, not only for Celtic.

  8. TET, I agree they will stick, but so will I, and you, with Celtic. And when most have had time to reflect they will too.

It’s no different now than in the late Fifties, take down your flag Mr Kelly, No said Mr Kelly.

Defiance in the face of adversity and the establishment.

The Huns will stick together in spite of the fact they are the cheats here, we should stick together because we have been cheated here, together with every other football club in Scotland.

Right, unfortunately these kids won’t feed themselves, lazy beggars, so, laters.

    Keep the Faith.

One last thought, a life without Celtic, could you bare it?

A life without Scottish football not a problem, but no Celtic?

  9. Totally Disgusted but when I read of lhads saying they are no longer going to follow Celtic because of this, I think of the Gospel. When a lot of disciples left Jesus because the going was getting tough, he turned to Peter and said ” Are you going too”, Peter replied to the effect of where would I go. First of all apologies to both Jesus & Peter for being too lazy to look up the direct wording but hopefully ye get the gist.

As I said earlier I now have no inhibitions or doubts, I want to see Celtic play either south of the border or in a Regional League but in the meantime I will support the Celtic in every game and take twice the pleasure in every win.

  10. Sir David Murray statement: “Decision not to strip Rangers of titles is satisfying and follows FTTT ruling in dispute with HMRC.””The commission recognised…Rangers gained no competitive advantage.”Commission ignored well established legal authority on meaning of ‘payment’ as set down by House of Lords in Heaton vs Bell (1969) “EBT scheme did not provide for payments from club to players. Players received loans from independent trustees.””The decisions to make those loans were made by those trustees alone”.

Murray: “It is entirely erroneous and without foundation to state a contribution to a trust and loan is same as Rangers paying a player.””Problems at Rangers brought no credit to Scottish football and have been a tragedy for club and fans. They cannot be condoned.”Murray: “Efforts to bayonet the wounded are equally unjustified and of no benefit to the club or Scottish football.”Murray: Imposition of irrecoverable fine on entity which is now in liquidation futile & prejudices ability of creditors to recover money

Long after the initial anger I’m feeling right now recedes, I’ll be left with a hollow, empty feeling.

They are dead to me. But there was a part of me thinking we were turning up at the graveyard today to tamp the dirt down. Only to find the establishment was already there digging the coffin up.

And they should be left to the morass of favour they’ve wallowed in and still do. But to do so is to also desert my team. Our team.

There’s a line in one of Cormac McCarthy’s books where a young boy is trying to sell a horse. And the experienced horse trader says something along the lines of – Son, I’m going to be honest with you. I’m going to trade with you as if you didn’t even have a horse.

    A rigged game.

Aye, if one day they make it to play with the big boys then I welcome it, refereeing will be our biggest enemy, not whatever team whatever version of hun goes up against us.

Two in a row just now, we know how the refereeing goes when they are desperate, if that wee divsion three club come into our league it should only be referees cheating that could stop us. sevco should not be abl to compete with us by that time.

  15. I agree with others that the our whole future is predicated on what Celtic do, but I don’t expect a Celtic comment on the judgement, let alone any proposals, they are too busy studying the Celtic survey, and generally scanning the morass left by Sevco and how it affects Celtic this season, and next.

Celtic were just as prepared as the Celtic Support for the inevitability of todays guilty but whitewashed verdict, and it will be very much work as usual for the Directors, who have a business to run, and a very lucrative living to make.

Injustice and Celtic have co existed since 1887 and its part of the configuration that drives us forward, this time round, towards ten titles in a row. Celtic won’t do anything, there’s is nothing we can do, other than continue to have a football club that confronts corruption, and still goes on to win.

Enjoy their absence and long may it last, who knows if they will ever darken our doorstep.

  16. Googybhoy et al

To accept it and move on as before is condoning it IMO

I’ve had enough of it and will find better ways to spend my time and Money than support what is corrupt within Scottish football.

The cheating was a deliberate planned and executed process. The objective was to “gain an advantage over other teams”.

I’ll not put anymore of my money into Scottish football, Celtic FC may do but if they meakly roll over then I’m finished with the lot.

  20. The question of improperly registered players being eligible to play has no precedent. Was Spartan’s 2011 offence improper registration or fielding an ineligible player? If the former Sevco’s punishment is entirely inconsistent (even ignoring that Spartans ‘crime’ involved one player for one match!) but if the latter then the whole pack of cards looks vulnerable.

Who is going to challenge this decision and how are they going to go about it? Tens of thousands of us ranting on various fans’ forums will achieve nothing. I am deeply suspicious of Mr Bryson but if heavily conflicted Campbell can remain in post then I’m sure that questioning Bysson’s integrity (however deservedly) will achieve nothing. The way forward would seem to be identifying whether this bizarre interpretation of eligibility is consistent with stated rules and precedents. But then who takes up the fight? If blatant injustice can be demonstated that cannot be challenged then I hope we as the club who have lost the most go for it. If the SPL do not appeal (as likely) then how else can it be challenged?

  21. What was the substance of this decision ? Why are we now being told that the main reason for LNS findings is on an individuals interpretation of rules and regs ! Forgive me for my ignorance but there should no ambiguity on rules and no room for individual interpretation ! Every club signs up to the same rules and should know what’s right and what’s wrong ! Anything outside they parameters is bending the rules or in laymans terms CHEATING !!! simples !!

  22. Why would 3 experienced( presumably intelligent) legal minds think it would be a good idea fo fine a dead club/company 250k?

When exactly have Celtic confronted corruption and it has resulted in a level, fare & transparent playing field? The fact that over the years the club and support have confront corruption and yet will in the future most likely again have to face corruption in the eye when The Blue Rinse Lodge return to SPL level, or equivalent, days it all really.
