Cadete scandal casts shadow

1236

Alexander (Sandy) Bryson has been mentioned in reports concerning another controversial matter in SFA history.  He was Head of Registrations when Celtic tried to register Jorge Cadete in 1996.  That case led to SFA chief executive, Jim Farry, being dismissed for gross misconduct after he failed to register the player in time for him to face Rangers in a Scottish Cup tie.

The Burness report into what happened noted that Farry “deflected responsibility to Mr (Sandy] Bryson (head of registrations] …. (on] certain executive decisions”.  In a contemporary article, Mirror Group Newspapers noted “it is unclear what part registration chief Sandy Bryson may have played in this debacle”.

  1. “They gained no competitive advantage”. They fielded players whose wages they couldn’t afford under normal conditions by which all their rivals were abiding by. They did gain a competitive advantage, end of story.

  2. I better not watch any scottish news programmes tonight, the tv might get a bashing. Also SSB will get the go bye……………………I was out the back a wee while ago,who appear??my hun neighbour (never seen him in weeks)he says “thats us not guilty again” reply “not guilty of what”his reply “you know not registering players fully”my reply “You were found guilty & fined 250 grand” then I walked back in my house not waiting for his reply, thick hun s/house

  3. Lets not delude ourselves. Did anyone really think we’d get a fair result. No way. It just wouldn’t happen. In my opinion it’s another example of the masonic cabal at work!

  4. I expect Celtic FC will not make comment on this it’s a difficult one to oppose and like other posters have said would only open the gates to accusations of sour grapes.

Strangely there is something the Celtic support can do though

We have heard the much gnashing of teeth from the Sevconians about what they would do if this verdict was not the one they wanted. In a perverse way their threats seemed to have worked and people have backed off condemning them.

One could assume “the people” have influence in high places and Sevco fans at the gates of the SFA headquarters must have been intimidating. We know of others who have been intimidated and have had police protection.

Reagan mentioned “social unrest” I’m sure this idea did not come from his own limited experiences of the peoples history more than likely it was whispered in his ear as a possible outcome if the SFA went too hard on oldco.

I would bet my house Regan and the SFA would not have wanted to be the cause of anything that led to social unrest.

Now let’s stand back for a minute and think about all this.

Sevconians have influenced the result we are the people power has worked.

So by the same token can Celtic people power also work?

Maybe, we are just as vociferous and can get our point across without recourse to threats and intimidation.

A Ghandiesque type demo outside Hampden (no Bomber Broon rhetoric) to let them know while everyone else may have accepted LNS findings we don’t. There are contradictions in this judgement I quote from Alex Thomson

“In other words the commission ruled that not telling the authorities in full about all monies given to players does not mean they were ineligible, which rather begs the question as to why the full-disclosure rule exists in the first place”

I suppose we have a big decision now we either accept this business as usual or we let the SFA know that they may well have appeased the people but the rest of the people are not similarly appeased.

Not sure how the rest of Scotland’s football teams fans feel about this, they to were affected by Rangers rule bending and money scams.

We know the result will not change but the thought of saying nothing to the SFA is a tad meek imo

They will be hoping we let this die because over the days and weeks ahead all you will hear is Scottish football needs to move on etc etc

The reality is Scottish football needs to move on for Sevcos stabilisation and their minions self interest.

  5. Win the next 8 titles after this one and set a new record.

10 in a row, that’s the Celtic way.

    Make their titles irrelevant.

  6. Che, we’re a pair of Guru’s.

Not surprised, but disappointed the judiciary can be lead to such a decision, same bloke involved with the Farry scandal, oh I forgot, Farry was a great administrator…

    Smacked wrists all round.

You’re welcome for the coffee, it was owed anyway.

  7. Anyone know when the not guilty verdict is released on their singing at the weekend?

Well they grt away with every other form of cheating.

I suppose we will just have to accept it if we still want to support the club, we have no choice, the corrupt powers, and our suits know this.

When all is said and done, the club are as hamstrung as the support, any action they could take would damage us financially, and as custodians they can’t do that.

We have been shafted big time, the ludges will be celebrating tonight.

Whoever said cheating doesn’t pay, aye right.

  9. I dont fear the day we have to play them again, I wont be there!

Since 1981 I’ve been backing the hoops, always with the thought that it was never a level playing field. The triumphs were all the more enjoyable for it.

However today has finished me, today we were issued with

“What you gonna do about it?”

After a lot of soul searching I will no longer be part of it.

I will see out this season as I’ve paid my cash (hard earned) but scottish football will see no more contributions from me.

To accept it and move on as before is condoning it IMO

I’ve had enough of it and will find better ways to spend my time and Money than support what is corrupt within Scottish football.

    ………

I do not believe we “accept” any injustices but we have to move on.

I would hope we move on by actively looking to leave Scottish football.

We should break all commercial ties with Rangers and not move on as part of any deal with them.

Move one. Yes but on our own terms.

Fully agree, ten in a row has to be our long term plan to do that rather easily with the long term model we seem to be setting up and have in place short term. It should take a hell of a lot for any opposition to take a league title the next few years.

  12. In a perverse way today’s outcome may just strengthen the resolve of other Clubs, and their support, Mr Huttons words of some months back were true then and possibly prophetic in nature, I dont doubt for a minute that Celtic Supporters are the only ones outraged by this outcome, itll be interesting to see the comments from other Clubs supporters as this news filters through.

  13. TET, never accept it, that was my point, I will never accept it. Stand up to them, never let them forget they were liquidated and are now following a zombie of a club, they cheated, we know it, so do they, today they were given an excuse to try to shake that of.

Don’t let them, the evidence is there, the should have been kicked out of football, but the establishment couldn’t stomach that.

    UTLR.

The best way to stick it to them now is, as HT says, go on to make it 10-in-a-Row!

Stay competing in Europe, how that will gall them. It’s what we’ve always done.

The biggest issue for me was that their tainted titles had led them to equaling our record of 9 in a row.

Their cheating has effectively been ignored and the history books will record that they achieved the same feat in the 80/90s.

Time to set new records. We welcome the chase.

  21. Can someone clarify if the LNS findings are final? Or is this a recommendation to the SPL as a result of their findings?

its been ignored by some, but not those that matter……us

  24. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

No matter what Rangers do or have done in the past, there is clearly no appetite within The Establishment to deal with them accordingly.

As a result, the whole of the rest of Scottish football is a victim of the actions of that club and of The Establishment.

My point is that there is no point in further punishing the victims by walking away from the game completely. I can understand the mindset of anyone considering this-scunnered is the mildest way I can think to describe it-but by weakening ourselves,we will only hand the huns another victory.

I genuinely dunno where we go from here, but I’d like to think that Celtic will refuse to comment but up the ante behind the scenes.

Time for the kid gloves to come off and fight back-and fight dirty if need be.
