Calibre gap, Uefa intervention, Celtic authors and bampots

575

We’ve been told since the summer not only that this season’s Championship would be more competitive than the Premiership (last week we covered the fact that it’s the least competitive league in Britain), but that the gap between the top of the Championship and the top of the Premiership would be narrow.

Hearts are probably a better team than we’ve seen in our two cup meetings with them this season, but they have proven to be hopelessly ill-prepared to face a European-calibre team.  Hamilton, Motherwell, Aberdeen, Inverness and Dundee have all given Celtic vastly more difficult challenges.

Robbie Neilson is doing well and his team will step-up to the Premiership challenge next year but they are not playing week-in-week-out at the pace necessary to tackle Celtic face on, as they did yesterday.

Following on from Saturday’s article, I heard today that Celtic’s relationship with Ujpest Doza, which saw Willie McStay leave his coaching role at Celtic to become Ujpest manager, was ended after complaints to Uefa about what was no more than unofficial links between the clubs.  Uefa informed the clubs that only one would be entitled to compete in European competition if their planned extended cooperation took place.

In the event a complaint was made to Uefa, clear blue water would be required between clubs Mike Ashley has an interest in.

Many thanks to the many authors, publishers and bampots in the Celtic community who are now involved with the CQNBookstore, which now had 29 books and DVDs available.

As well as the CQN books, like the CQN Annual, Caesar & the Assassin, Seville, All the Best by Tommy Gemmell and Heart of Lion by Willie Wallace, there’s Cartuja’s Internet Bampots, Paul Dyke’s The Quality St Gang, John Hughes irrepressible autobiography, two books by Ian McCallum on how the Glasgow Irish founded a football club, and on those who went to the Great War, signed copies of Archie Macpherson’s definitive Jock Stein biography, the Sean Fallon and Chris Sutton biographies, an absolute treasure chest of Celtic DVDs and beanie hats for Mary’s Meals!

We’re hoping to add more in due course. Fill your boots.

A maximum of four SPL sides left in the cup after the fifth round, the rangers getting yet another home tie, you’d almost think there was a conspiracy going on!

  2. Craigellachie10 on

And obviously the rangers v raith is the glamour tie all the tv stations will be bidding for!

Aye, but all the home draws in Scottish Cup always seem to occur in the latter stages…

  4. If anyone had time it would be interesting to chart how often they have been drawn against teams beneath them or above them in the SPFL/SFA Heirarchy. (Kilmarnock and St Johnstone patsies don’t count :-) )

  5. Good draw for us, any away tie is better than playing at home where it would be empty, not such a good draw for the zombies I’m predicting a four figure turnout for the raith game a week after we smash them at Hampden. HH

I’d agree, a lot of the away performances recently have been better than the home ones!

7/8 February should give Tayside`s finest plenty of time to prepare for yet another riot by those outrageously behaved Celtic fans. Living, as I do , in Arbroath, the last time I went to see us v United, opposing fans were drinking together before and after the game without a sniff of trouble. We also mingled with one another walking to and from the ground. Something is not right.

The French have a few interesting rules.

They don’t allow a tiny cop out of an apology in their papers either after a printed error.

  9. Dos any one know what the outcome of the wee hun thug Paul patons court appearance for attacking the Celtic goal keeper, patons court date was 27 of November yet I have not heard a peep about it

Yep,better away than at the “Morgue”.The away fans, like Sunday give the team much better support. We are playing better away.

  11. Guys claiming the draws are rigged should take a reality check. They could not possibly rig Televised Draws and get away with it. There would have to be a number of people complicit in any rigging and if anyone of them subsequently spoke out, those involved would have to face criminal charges. The draw is what it is and personally I prefer to see Celtic playing SPFL sides rather than minnows. Against Dundee there will be no over confidence or messing, we will be up for a hard game and that is when we are at our best.

On a good day, we could hammer the Huns. The likelihood is that we will beat Them but not by an avalanche of goals. All professional teams are now able to defend competently against superior opposition. It is not easy to break down defences. So, don`t be raising your expectations and assuming a drubbing of Sevco. That is not likely. They are not as bad as some ( most?) on here claim.

Mate we’ll win by a least 4 or 5, once the first one goes in they know it’s game over and will lose the plot, the orcs in the stand will also lose it.

Heard the Celtic end tickets are £20 more than the Huns end, when asked the sfa about it they said ‘ your end will have the singing and dancing ‘

I’ll get my coat csc HH

  15. Speaking about cup draws, I am currently hoping that Feyenoord top their EL group and that we get them in the last 32. I think that the atmosphere at the home and away games would be great given the existing friendly links between the fans. They are also a decent team but very beatable for Celtic. I would prefer that to getting one of the Italian clubs.

Of course I want a resounding victory but I believe it is unrealistic to EXPECT one. Even so, I hope we live up to your name and do just that.

    Cheerio for now.

Nothing to do with cup draws -but –

” there would have to be a number of people complicit in –” .

The Moggi / Calciopoli / Juventus thing demonstrated that complicity extended to –

Referees / Linesmen , Referee Selectors , Referee Supervisors , Employees of the Italian FA , employees of media companies etc etc..

Moggi carried the can -Juve managed to convince the relevant authorities that they were unaware re what Moggi was doing .

Owner of Juve recently ” forgave ” Moggi . . Moggi replied by stating that since Juve were still claiming titles won during the time he was at Juventus he had no need for forgiveness.

I went to see Feyenoord last week. The atmosphere was poor, although to be fair they were playing the team at the bottom of the league. The stadium is great though -old-fashioned, with good acoustics so we’d definitely be heard. As for Rotterdam, it’s beautiful, in the same way that Dundee is :)
