Calibre gap, Uefa intervention, Celtic authors and bampots

575

We’ve been told since the summer not only that this season’s Championship would be more competitive than the Premiership (last week we covered the fact that it’s the least competitive league in Britain), but that the gap between the top of the Championship and the top of the Premiership would be narrow.

Hearts are probably a better team than we’ve seen in our two cup meetings with them this season, but they have proven to be hopelessly ill-prepared to face a European-calibre team.  Hamilton, Motherwell, Aberdeen, Inverness and Dundee have all given Celtic vastly more difficult challenges.

Robbie Neilson is doing well and his team will step-up to the Premiership challenge next year but they are not playing week-in-week-out at the pace necessary to tackle Celtic face on, as they did yesterday.

Following on from Saturday’s article, I heard today that Celtic’s relationship with Ujpest Doza, which saw Willie McStay leave his coaching role at Celtic to become Ujpest manager, was ended after complaints to Uefa about what was no more than unofficial links between the clubs.  Uefa informed the clubs that only one would be entitled to compete in European competition if their planned extended cooperation took place.

In the event a complaint was made to Uefa, clear blue water would be required between clubs Mike Ashley has an interest in.

Many thanks to the many authors, publishers and bampots in the Celtic community who are now involved with the CQNBookstore, which now had 29 books and DVDs available.

As well as the CQN books, like the CQN Annual, Caesar & the Assassin, Seville, All the Best by Tommy Gemmell and Heart of Lion by Willie Wallace, there’s Cartuja’s Internet Bampots, Paul Dyke’s The Quality St Gang, John Hughes irrepressible autobiography, two books by Ian McCallum on how the Glasgow Irish founded a football club, and on those who went to the Great War, signed copies of Archie Macpherson’s definitive Jock Stein biography, the Sean Fallon and Chris Sutton biographies, an absolute treasure chest of Celtic DVDs and beanie hats for Mary’s Meals!

We’re hoping to add more in due course. Fill your boots.

Speaking about cup draws, I am currently hoping that Feyenoord top their EL group and that we get them in the last 32. I think that the atmosphere at the home and away games would be great given the existing friendly links between the fans. They are also a decent team but very beatable for Celtic. I would prefer that to getting one of the Italian clubs.

    **********

I went to see Feyenoord last week. The atmosphere was poor, although to be fair they were playing the team at the bottom of the league. The stadium is great though -old-fashioned, with good acoustics so we’d definitely be heard. As for Rotterdam, it’s beautiful, in the same way that Dundee is :)

Well, I was basing that thought on the atmosphere during their game with Sevilla last thurs – their fans were certainly up for that game. Plus I fancy a trip on the Eurostar to see Celtic :)

Off to Prague with Mrs IGC on Thursday.

Anyone with knowledge of a bar which should be showing the Motherwell game (SS1)?

Also, any dos and don’ts I should know about?

Should really be twinned with Glasgow now that I come to think of it!

  10. Delighted to see Stephanie Roche of Peamount United has got to the last 3 of Goal of the Year. She is there with Van Persie & Rodriguez . They scored their goals in the World Cup. Stephanie scored hers against Wexford Youths in a game watched by a handful of spectators. Luckily for her a member of the Wexford Club decided to video the game otherwise no one would have seen or heard of her goal. Its an incredible achievement helped of course by the unseen Fenian hand. I for one was lobbying on here for cqn’ers to vote for her, I’m sure she got plenty of votes from CQN Fenians. Thank you all and for those who haven’t seen her goal check it out, a pure cracker.

  12. The FFin’ Arsenal shares:

“This was a huge crime against the club’s history perpetrated by the worst villain in British football, in my opinion.

When Whyte sold those, like many my heart sank as at that moment in time we were witnessing a man who cared not a jot for Rangers, a man without any moral compass, a dishonest unscrupulous man inside the football club with access to our crown jewels.

No different to a burglar having the free run of your house whilst you are impotent to stop him.

However, if Whyte is eventually proven to have acquired our club by fraudulent means, one wonders where that leaves his disposal of our Arsenal shares?”

    ——

“This is one of the hardest things to take out of the whole saga.”

    ——

“I’ll be honest. I never knew about the Arsenal shares until the fraudulent criminal sold them. I then like many other [Huns] done a wee bit of research to find out how we came to get them. They meant something. It’s still very raw in me.”

    ——

“someone posted on here on Saturday a very disrutbing tweet from Keith Jackson in October (I think) saying ‘Remember the Arsenal shares? Well, what’s the worst that could happen……?’

Which scared the hell out of me. Hope to **** he doesn’t mean the tarriers!”

    ——

“That was the worst thing to have happened. Because those shares, along with the Loving Cup, were what R*ngers were all about”

    ——

“If Whytes takeover was illegal, he then traded in stolen goods.

The buyer should be done for reset !”

    ——

“I said a crime against the club’s history.

Which notwithstanding any finding of guilt in a future criminal hearing is nonetheless a standout fact.

However, if the club was gained by fraud, then the disposal of assets may well be seen to be individual criminal acts notwithstanding that they are tied into the overall crime of fraud.”

    ——

” Not sure of the exact pence in pound but it was ‘claimed’ by the Admin / Liquidators of Oldco….Unsure if monies have been received by the estate or not though.”

[Estate you say Sammy? So you really are dead then?]

    ——

“This would be one thing I’d whole-heartedly support the RFFF being used for.”

    ——

“So why shouldn’t the shares be taken back and the new owner left to chase Whyte for their money.”

    ——

“Because it’s shares in a company which is about to be liquidated.”

    ——

“Perhaps, we should forget that it was shares for a moment, which don’t resonate in the mind as much as a more visible item

Say for instance that it was the Loving Cup that was sold.

    Two things here.

The first is we would have expected the buyer to raise an eyebrow that someone was inside Ibrox and selling off an artefact that was considered both part of the history of the club in the first place, something that was in the fabric of the club’s story for much of its history.

The second is that having being proved to have gained the club by fraud, then the disposal of valuable artefects belonging to the club would constitute those items as being gained through dishonesty, and that they were under the law to be considered stolen goods if sold to another.

They would still be considered the property of the original owner, in this case R*ngers Football Club, and maybe indeed David Murray’s?

But it may be a bit more difficult than this as the matter is a bit more complex, as R*ngers Football Club is not a person.”

I spend about 7 weeks year in Prague for work.

There is a scots tic supporting barman who always put’s the game on for me on one of the countless screens in the Dubliner.

  15. If kdc’s figures are correct i.e.

    for Sevco –

    Scottish Cup

    Home – 8

    Away – 4

    League Cup

    Home – 4

    Away – 1

then the probability of this happening is 4.72%.

The accepted level for a probable cause is 5% or less so you could argue that their being drawn at home in 12 out of 17 ties is statistically relevant i.e. it’s not random.

However, the difference is so slight that they would have to be given the benefit of the doubt.

If anybody is so sad as to want to know how this is worked out, let me know.

  18. P.S. Voting has re-opened for the Final. Google Stephanie Roche or Puskas Goal of the year 2014. Vote early & vote often, we Fenians will never be defeated. I’m not clever with links so if someone can post a link to the goal and the voting it would be a great help.
