CARLTON COLE, released by Brendan Rodgers in the summer, has joined Sacramento Republic in the United Soccer League.
The former England international striker was signed for Celtic by ex-boss Ronny Deila in October after being released by West Ham at the end of the previous season.
Cole, 32, who kicked off his career at Chelsea in 2001, made five appearances for the Parkhead side, starting only one game.
His solitary goal came in the 3-0 Scottish Cup victory over Stranraer at Stair Park on January 10. His last game was the 8-1 win over Hamilton later that month.
The Californian club, which was formed in 2012, are delighted with their signing.
Head Coach Paul Buckle said: “Cole needs no introduction. In terms of what he has does in the game, he has played at the highest level throughout his career and it shows he is a top player and very good professional.
“When he became available, we realised the good he can bring, his invaluable experience and that he can score goals.”
Cole will go down as one of the most curious signing Celtic ever made. The fans certain enjoyed the Carlton Cole song but that was about it from a player well past his best.
